Subject: Great show, but hardly anyone there From: ranger1 Date: 12 Jun 04 - 10:21 PM Thursday night, I went to see North Sea Gas at the St. Lawrence Performing Arts Center here in Portland, Maine. The show was great, there was a super mix of rollicking, rowdy songs as well as slow, sad songs, the stories and jokes in between songs were funny and the guys seemed to be having fun, and the tickets were reasonable. The problem? Only 22 people in the audience. I don't think it had anything to do with lack of interest, though. More like lack of publicity on the part of whoever booked them. But at least it was up 10 people from last fall... I have a huge amount of respect for the professionalism of the band, we few, we happy few, got one hell of a concert! Mac did a beautiful job with Cairn o' mount and The Dark Island, and they all had us in stitches with The Job Song, to name just a couple of songs from the evening. I just feel bad that there were so few people there. |

Subject: RE: Great show, but hardly anyone there From: Sooz Date: 13 Jun 04 - 02:30 AM Mike and I saw Realtime here in Gainsborough (UK) last night. They were great but there were only about 30 in the audience. Lack of publicity is one reason, but our problem here is that we only have one folk event in a season so people don't get in the habit of going. In the good old days when we had two a month the place was usually full! |
