Subject: RE: Folk music around Cambridge From: Leraud Date: 18 Jun 04 - 04:22 AM Wheatsheaf at Whittlesford every Friday. |
Subject: RE: Folk music around Cambridge From: Grab Date: 18 Jun 04 - 07:46 AM Leraud: Wheatsheat session stopped some time back now. It's split into two now, a "serious" session at the Red Lion and a "non-serious" session at the Bees in the Wall, both on every Friday night. The Red Lion session is more of a "proper" session - the Bees is more just a bunch of musicians hanging out in a pub for fun. Some others:- Acoustic Routes club at CB2 in town Cambridge Folk Club at the Unicorn (Trumpington Unicorn, not Cherry Hinton Unicorn!) Mayflower Folk Club at the Portland Arms Graham. |
Subject: RE: Folk music around Cambridge From: GUEST,George Hawes Date: 18 Jun 04 - 10:31 AM Red Lion being the Red Lion at Whittlesford. Really, it's rather more like an informal folk club 'open mic' evening than what most of us would understand by a session. Actually I think Leraud was a trifle confused . . . I can't remember where the Wheatsheaf's located (although I could drive there) but I think it's not Whittlesford . . . (Alternatively I'm confused!) Bees in the Wall I wasn't aware of . . . sounds like I ought to be! G. |

Subject: RE: Folk music around Cambridge From: GUEST Date: 19 Jun 04 - 09:56 AM Lincolnshire isn't Cambridge!!! On 4th July there's a session at the Dyke's End, Reach (near Burwell, East of Cambridge) in the evening 8pm onwards. Songs and tunes, all contributions welcome. On Thursday 8th July there's a session at the Dun Cow, Bardwell (also not Cambridgeshire, it's at the north end of Suffolk, NE of Bury St Edmunds). Even more eclectic than the Reach session. Check out my Clubs and sessions in East Anglia page for more. (though some of those aren't very local either) Wisbech is a good bet for Tuesday. Friday 9th is also the beginning of the Ely folk weekend. Anahata |

Subject: RE: Folk music around Cambridge From: IanC Date: 21 Jun 04 - 08:49 AM If you're able to get across the border into Hertfordshire, there's a nice quiet village session in The Rose & Crown, High Street, Ashwell on Monday 5th July from about 8:30. :-) |
