For those of us in the Boston - Dover NH axis --- here is an rare opportunity to hear Tommy Sands in Concert.    We heard him 5 year ago at Boston College and it was a very special afternoon.

From the local paper:
"Irish folk artist Tommy Sands will offer a Concert for Peace on Friday, June 25, at 8 p.m. at the First Church, Meetinghouse Green in Ipswich. (Route 1 A - on the hill in the center of town).

The concert will benefit the House of Peace, a non-profit organization serving refugees and victims of war in companionship with people with disabilities.

Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. The event is wheelchair accessible. For information, call the House of Peace, 978-356-9395. "

Tommy has a weekly radio show devoted to Irish traditional/folklore etc, on Downtown Radio (Northern Ireland) which you can catch online at Downtown Radio, Saturday nights, 6-8pm. (Not sure if anyone's covering while he's in the states.)

His brother Colum also has a weekly Saturday night slot. Colum is on BBC Radio Ulster, 10pm-midnight. This can be heard live, online, or by using the Beeb's listen-again option, which keeps each program available for one week after going to air. Either way, the starting point for Colum is Radio Ulster.

Maybe the name doesn't mean much in the States, aj.

For those who do not know. Tommy wrote the masterful song "There Were Roses" ( it's in the lyrics database) which absolutely undoes me everytime I hear it. He is a dedicated Peace activist and a wonderful musician.

Folks, if you have the chance to hear Tommy, don't miss it. He's fabulous and has devoted much of himself to bringing peace through his music. I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could. Go, and please fill us in here, afterwards. KT

After playing our club in St Albans on a Friday evening in early April, he came out to meet me in the street the following morning where he performed for 30 minutes and sang ,along with others song, one he had recently written. It was a very poignant song and I felt priveleged to hear it.It challenges the evil of racism head on.

He is such a genuine ,peaceloving individual, unasuming and modest, and now more of his songs are heard in our club thanks to the talents of our residents who will keep Tommy words in our hearts and minds.

I wish you all the best for his forthcoming appearance and say 'Hello' from St Albans and thank him again for the night he came .

Art, wit and conscience...genuine ,peaceloving individual, unasuming and modest... (and cute too.) If he were in my town again I would *always* go to see and hear him. He puts on a rollicking good show, just a tremendous talent.
