Subject: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: Kampervan Date: 21 Jun 04 - 06:44 PM It was a great festival. It really was. Everything that has made Beverley was it has always been was there. the concerts and the names were there for the concert-goers - whilst the sing-arounds that I've been going to for the last 18 years apparently celebrated their 3rd birthday. O.K. Lets not quibble; but what is happening to the campsite catering? Time was it went all through the night and breakfast started at midnight. This time, breakfast on Saturday didn't start til gone 9 o'clock, and then it was all served in a bun. Where was the plate of bacon beans and sausages? The half decent meal? Also the tea tent was too small for the late night sessions that have always been a great end to each evening. How can the organisers get so much right but make such a balls-up of a small but important aprt of the festival? Am I alone in ther way I feel about this? |

Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 22 Jun 04 - 04:17 AM Bring back the Scouts well certainly the lady venture scouts with the large lady bumps (pnarr , pnarr). Or at least ask Moor and Coast (except I suspect Festival Committee want too much dosh for the franchcise) |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: GUEST,woggle Date: 22 Jun 04 - 06:29 AM The scouts food and service was excellent |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: Snuffy Date: 22 Jun 04 - 09:08 AM Hands Off! Moor and Coast have always done Alcester in recent years, and I for one would like it to stay that way. It wouldn't be the same without them. |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: Linda Kelly Date: 22 Jun 04 - 09:15 AM I'll feed this back to organisers. Ddin't catch this years catering but last years was awful. |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 22 Jun 04 - 09:46 AM All daftness aside the catering although limited was always spot on when the Venture Scouts did it. It was also reasonably priced, good quality and they gave the profits to charity. When the new organisers took over as Bev and East Riding FF they franchised it in order to pay for people like Fairport. Since then we've had Movable Feast (who were shite), Chez Whatever (who shut before the final concert turned out) and numerous others who have mainly been shite. It all boils down to BERFF not being interested in the main in anything other than the concerts. Fringe, Camp Site sessions are all imaterial. |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 22 Jun 04 - 10:43 AM Being fortunate enough to live very close to the festival activities, I don't need to eat out so I can't comment on the quality or otherwise of the food. Perhaps if those of you who have experience of other festivals would like to post some examples of "good practice" in the provision of catering, I could pass it on to the organisers in the hope that they could incorporate it into the specification for the food tender next year. So, I've picked up on areas such as opening/closing times, type of food served, quality of food served, price. anything else? Give me some examples of how other people do it. Rog ps I'm not involved with organising it at all - just the fringe - so I don't have any vested interest in it at all. |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: Red and White Rabbit Date: 23 Jun 04 - 02:11 AM I think the difference between Moor and Coast and most of the people booked to doing catering these days is they are actually interested in us as people and folkies rather than just coinage. They bend over backwards to give people what they want ( food wise - though their reputation with the ladies goes before them!) They know know the times people are likely to want to eat and staff their tent accordingly ( Glen you can pay me later!) Beverley you need something like this and you wont go far wrong |

Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: brid widder Date: 23 Jun 04 - 01:42 PM I think everyone really misses the scouts... it has never been the same since they went... this year I had a fairly decent breakfast from the Burger van... but it was £4.50 + £1 for tea... As for them only being interested in concerts... well we stewarded the late night extra on friday and couldn't get so much as a cuppa when it finished...both vans were closed & the leisure cenre bar had closed at 12.00. It used to be normal at Beverley to wait for daylight to find your tent!!! |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 24 Jun 04 - 05:24 AM Ah the days of finding your tent by braille |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: nutty Date: 24 Jun 04 - 05:28 AM although for many of the great unwashed ....by SMELL would have been far more effective. |
Subject: RE: Beverley - Feeding time or calling time? From: The Borchester Echo Date: 24 Jun 04 - 05:45 AM Give me some examples of how other people do it> The Moreton Festival has breakfasts provided by the scouts - "full English" including tea, and as much bread as you want for £3. |
