Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 02 Jul 04 - 04:29 AM The place was full of healthy girlies and chappies running round a track on Sunday mornings whilst a little fat scotsman implored them to come into the Moor and Coast Food Tent to have some 'lard' |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: Eric the Viking Date: 01 Jul 04 - 04:59 PM The campsite is not by the gym/swimming pool, it is up a side road. It is signposted, just before the running track/sports field. If you have come through Cleckheaton, about 300 yards after the roadworks, look for a yellow sign directing you to the right. If coming from the opposite direction, after the swimming baths and gym, there is the running track, at the end of that turn left. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,D.McFarlane Date: 01 Jul 04 - 12:31 PM Just a wee addition to what's there above - I'll not be appearing 'solo' - but will have Steve and Geoff from my band on board as well (all acoustic!) - Anne (fiddle) will still be travelling back from France late that night - but will (if no delays!) be there with us for the Saturday appearances - in other words, DMcF will be the 'acoustic' band rather than just mesel 'solo'. There - clear as mud, you cats! - cheers - Duncan |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: MoorleyMan Date: 01 Jul 04 - 10:36 AM Well Eric, the prog I saw lists Fri at the Town Hall as Copper Kettle, Whitney Gin, Duncan McFarlane, Cloudstreet and the London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra! Sounds like a great bill - see ya there! Believe there's also a acoustic concert upstairs at the Commercial. |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 30 Jun 04 - 06:13 AM I think previous licencees were not interested. That couple last year seemed keen and some of the punters were well versed in their knowledge of folk music. I think I mentioned the venue to the organisers and they said they would re-visit now that new folks were on board but they obviously have forgot. Good venue as it's on the way to camp site. Even if people show their hairy gonads in public. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: muppett Date: 30 Jun 04 - 06:04 AM Cheers Geoff, I wondered how come my body kept shaking, I'd put it down to amount of ale I'd supped. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 30 Jun 04 - 05:50 AM Wonder if the organiser have considered it as a singaround venue, The owners didn't throw me and MC Fat out last year, if they can put up with us they will probably gleefully welcome everyone else. Might have to think about visitng it again Jim |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 28 Jun 04 - 11:01 AM Was that pub called the Old Mill. I know it sold Old Mill Beer and was on the way to campsite. I'm being a old soft git and staying B&B somewhere in deepeset darkest Cleckhuddersfax. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,EtV@work Date: 28 Jun 04 - 10:49 AM Hello all-peace! I think the campsite is as recent, behind the health club, buses will run as usual. Hello flaj, the same goes for you,how are you? Do you not get to sessions anymore? I shall look forward to being fed again by your Morris team-but I won't have my bike there! Is Andy going as well? Linda,,any CD of yours will get rave reviews if it's anything like the last/present one. It's a shame that (as often happens) people use these threads to vent their spleen on an individual What is a greater shame is that people arn't courageous enough to at least put their own seal on their words. Carol-please ignore the thread creep(s). Cleckheaton is a friendly festival with loads to see and do, there is an abundance of good food in the area, plenty of pubs, good company and it is a pity that there seems to be some cowardly attack on an individual. So come along, enjoy yourself, make friends, have fun. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: Linda Kelly Date: 28 Jun 04 - 07:01 AM some of us have never had a review of a CD by DK, Guest, and don't seek his opinion either way. we just don't like seeing anyone, whether we know them or not, being vilified in such a way, when he is not here to defend himself. Take your schoolboy bullying elsewhere -it's a disgrace. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,padgett Date: 28 Jun 04 - 06:19 AM Check with Mr Pickles re campsite, but I think we're back on the old one behind the Leisure Centre, ajacent to showers/running track, at least I hope so! Any buses for fest? Ray Padgett |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,Guest Date: 28 Jun 04 - 06:13 AM I had always thought that MoorleyMan was Dave Kidman so either he is abnswering his own threads or his woman is doing it for him |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 28 Jun 04 - 04:55 AM Does anyone know which campsite we are using. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 28 Jun 04 - 04:51 AM I think it is agreed that the Wickham is not ideal for a singaround but perhaps we could ask the landlord (who is ever supportive) if we could use the restaurant when it closes. I have seen this done before and enjoyed a fine night in there some years ago. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 28 Jun 04 - 04:27 AM I shall be there Sat and some of Sunday (moi et R&WR) have a gig in darkest Sheffield on the evening. Wickham is a great singaround as is said but room not ideal however the landlord and landlady are fantastic and should be supported. We went to the Old Mill on't way to campsite and the new licencees were very welcoming last year. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: GUEST,padgett Date: 28 Jun 04 - 04:19 AM I'm doing a Workshop on Yorkshire /traditional song and collecting etc on the Saturday I believe in the town hall, anyone interested could be a lively debate and interactive Ray Padgett |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: flaj Date: 28 Jun 04 - 04:05 AM Hi Eric, Not seen or heard of you for a long time. That Morris Team who fed you and your family when you were cycling in York some years ago will be dancing at Cleckheaton again this year! Hope to catch up with the crack then. Flaj. |

Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: George Papavgeris Date: 27 Jun 04 - 09:05 AM If it doesn't shake when it's singing, it's probably dead, Graver. It was good for Kallas and Elvis and it's good for Pavarotti, Johnny Collins, Cloudstreet, our own HergaKitty and so many other performers - why not for passionate Mr DK? May passion live on. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: Mrs.Duck Date: 26 Jun 04 - 02:57 PM Uncalled for, Grover! We will probably be across for the day (Sat) so keep us posted as to the best locations for singarounds. The Wickham can be a bit awkward but I did hear a lot of good stuff there last year both in the front bar and later in the restaurant. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: MoorleyMan Date: 26 Jun 04 - 02:49 PM Not sure what you mean there, Grover - I for one'd be disappointed if the weekend passed without hearing Dave K sing. And I hope he'll be running a singaround somewhere too - the one he ran in the Commercial the year afore last was a cracker. What I (and many others I know) appreciate is that D believes in the songs, and cares about putting them across. Which is more than you can say as regards them that trot out the same passionless renderings year after year - right? Whatever, I plan to be at Cleckheaton too this year - it's a good lineup as you say Nutty. Also looking forward to renewing acquaintance with you Linda, and the luvly shaking Ducks! (Keep a-shakin' Mrs!) But wot a pity there aren't better venues for the singarounds - the Whickam means awful chairs, too much smoke, poor acoustics and an awkward room layout I find. |
Subject: RE: Cleckheaton Folk Festival. From: early Date: 25 Jun 04 - 02:29 PM As far as I know local clubs are covering slots at the Whickam Arms all weekend as the main fest singaround but going on past years there will be plenty of other singarounds all round the town - the commercial next to the music room on the main street is also usually pretty busy enjoy!! |
