They match what he sings on the "Band of Jesse James" CD, I'm pretty sure.

I used to sing that at gigs sometimes. During the last Administration, I always stressed, in introducing it, that there was no reference to any public figure. I'm not a political singer.

GUEST: What "last poster" are you referring to? (It wasn't me.)

And how do you know the lyrics posted above (by Midchuck) aren't complete?

The song title is STILL GOT THAT LOOK. The album, "The Best of Jim Ringer: The Band of Jesse James," Philo CD 1202, 1996, is still available. You can hear a sound sample at Barnes & Noble.

STILL GOT THAT LOOK
(Jim Ringer)
As sung by Jim Ringer on "The Best of Jim Ringer: The Band of Jesse James"

1. His life was a shambles.
Every day was a gamble.
Orange Sunshine burned his mind up long ago.
Every lesson he learned,
And any way he turned,
He found out was the wrong way to go.
Now he wears shiny shoes,
He swears he's found Truth,
And all he's learned up to now has been a lie.
He used to take acid,
And now he loves God,
But he's still got that look in his eye.

Every day he spends hours
Tryin' to pin flowers
On folks who ain't got time to smell,
And he tries to explain
That if you miss your plane,
Well, that's better than your burning in Hell.
The ol' preacher believes
It's the workin's of Jesus.
Well, that ol' preacher just don't realize,
He used to take acid,
And now he loves God,
But he's still got that look in his eye.

3. His momma back home
Kind of wishes he'd phone,
But his dad hopes he don't call today.
The last time he called
Was some time last fall,
For money, and to beg them to pray.
Well, the Church has his money,
And his clothes are still funny,
And them new shoes ain't even his size.
He used to take acid,
And now he loves God,
But he's still got that look in his eye.

Yeah, he used to take acid,
And now he loves God,
But he's still got that look in his eye.

Peter.

(Ringer is claimed to have written it after being pestered by just such an individual at an airport when he was rushing to catch a plane.)

Jim Ringer wrote it and recorded it on his LP, "Endangered Species (Flying Fish)."

It's included on "The Band of Jesse James: The Best of Jim Ringer (Philo)."

I have been trying to find this song for a few years now. I heard it late one night on WXPN in Philadelphia.
and was rolling on the floor with laughter because I knew a guy just like this.
I guess if you hang around long enough everyone know someone like this.
I pressed record on my cassette player …remember those?…
and just caught the last part of the song. The DJ probably gave the name of the group at the beginning so he didn't say anything at the end and just went into the next song. But I have always wanted to know who the group was. They kind of sounded like to group The Band but it wasn't them.
If anyone out there has any idea I would appreciate any help solving this mystery.Joe S.
Here are the words to the end of the song.
… but he still got that look in his eye.

His mama back home wishes he'd phone but his dad hopes he don't call today
The last time he called was some time last fall for money and to beg them to pray.
Well the church has his money and his clothes are still funny
and those new shoes aint even his size.
He used to take acid, but now he loves God but he still got that look in his eye. Yeah,
He used to take acid, but now he loves God but he still got that look in his eye.
