Subject: RE: Six Bells, Barrow, last Sunday session From: Skipjack K8 Date: 28 Jun 04 - 08:15 AM Wilfried, how delightful to hear from you, and as splendid as last night's session was, it lacked the dignity of your presence. Daithi, yes, it's game-on tomorrow, and will be all the better for your attendance. |

Subject: RE: Six Bells, Barrow, last Sunday session From: Bloke in the Corner Date: 28 Jun 04 - 11:32 AM Come along, whistler, make us all happy with your...whistling. I've actually bought a box - but won't have it till Wednesday - bet none of you can guess the keys it's in? |

Subject: RE: Six Bells, Barrow, last Sunday session From: Oaklet Date: 28 Jun 04 - 11:48 AM There's more than one key? When did this happen? I assume that it'll be OK to jauntily hammer along with it in the proper key of Barton, no matter what sort of tuning it has. The golden rule is "if it's audible, join in" and as a matter of curiosity, establish what key it was in after the thunderous climax, when one has got one's breath back and the voices in the head have died down a bit. Keys indeed! Harumph. |

Subject: RE: Six Bells, Barrow, last Sunday session From: Skipjack K8 Date: 28 Jun 04 - 01:21 PM I wondered what Bloke was on about too, David. Everything we know is in standard Barton tuning, and keys are somewhere in Florida or accessories for chastity belts. We all know when some lightweight can't guess the tune, as they slam their instrument back into it's bag in a fit of incompetence, allowing we visionaries to complete our various predictions in more concentrated cacophony. |

Subject: RE: Six Bells, Barrow, last Sunday session From: GUEST Date: 28 Jun 04 - 02:20 PM Skip and Oaklet, that is really refreshing. I am a brilliant and gifted euphoneum player. I love to provide counter-melodies to everything I hear (particularly folk music in pubs) and have realised that if it sounds a bit wrong, just play it louder until the song or tune becomes a bit of old descant to my invention. My counter-melodies are never in the same key, nor the same time signature nor even the same length as the subject. Those who promote the benefits of theoretical musical order and control are just denying me freedom of expression, in my opinion. |
