Sorry about the odd spacing in the thread title, but needful to get the requisite info in.

This Saturday 3 July, weather permitting, should be another of those nice relaxed outdoor days in the pub garden at the Three Mariners, Lower Road, Rainham, Kent, nearly on the Thames. Amateur folk performers (or professionals doing it for fun) in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Little PA rig. Noon till late.

BBQ. Raffle. Etc. Reasonable pints, two or three sorts served on beer engines as well as the usual lager and keg and alcopops for those who like that sort of thing.

Supported by the two folk clubs that share the pub, that is to say Rainham Folk Club and the Moore Or Less Folk Club. No guarantees (I ma nothing to do with the organisation) but you may be likely to see Junk and Disorderly, and Jazzle, both featuring local guitar hero Dave Reay. I would expect Station KDD (somewhere in the middle ground between folk, country and blues). Don (WYZIWIG) Thompson is usually there, possibly with Clive (WildRover) Lever as Sic Transit with Guide Cats for the Blind material. Maybe also some country performers from the country music club that also uses the pub, and although I prefer folk music some of the country people are very good indeed at what they do. Probably some finger-in-the-ear traddies like big growly Simon from the Canopus, and of course yours truly. Maybe the Barden of England if a paid gig does not drag him away.

A nice summer afternoon. Recommended.

To book a floor spot phone Maz and Dan 01634 372048.

If I'm not too busy, I might try and make it.

I was once helping out on a RNLI stall which was situated next to a large temporary swimming pool where the local sub-aqua club were displaying their talents. Suddenly the plasic sides of the pool gave way and the water (which had to be delivered and taken away by about 4 large bowsers) was all around us. We ended up all in a display "Atlantic 21" inshore lifeboat, singing "Eternal Father Strong to Save" whilst waving RNLI flags. The public were highly amused, and there was a picture in the local paper.

As Richard Bridge still doesn't seem to be able to do hyperlinks here's a map showing where "The Three Mariners" actually is.

If you're coming from the west (London or Dartford Crossing), it's probably easiest to turn off the A2 just before it becomes the M2 and follow the signs for the Medway Tunnel.
