If you're interested in a fun, participatory music experience this summer, there are still some spots left at The Woods Music and Dance Camp, but you better act quick!

The Woods is an intimate folk music gathering (max. 80 people including staff) about 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto on the shores of Lake Rosseau in the beautiful Muskoka region of Ontario. The focus is on building community through music. No previous musical experience is necessary-- just a love of music!

In addition to the classes and workshops taught by our excellent staff, there are song circles, dances, jam sessions, and opportunities to canoe, swim, walk, and have a lot of fun. This year there will be classes and workshops in banjo, fiddle, guitar, squeezebox, dance, songwriting, and singing.

This year's staff:

DAVE CLARKE: best known as David Francey's accompanist, Dave is also one-third of the country-bluegrass trio Steel Rail and is well-known for his stunning guitar work.

CHRIS COOLE AND ERYNN MARSHALL: Chris (on clawhammer banjo and guitar)and Erynn (on fiddle) will be our dance band for the week, bringing you toe-tapping old-time music.

BRIAN PETERS: One of England's finest squeezebox players, Brian is also a respected guitarist and singer who brings a wide knowledge of British traditional music.

MARION ROSE: Our dance caller! Marion is a gifted caller who will have even the most reluctant dancers out on the floor with her mixture of contras, squares, and other assorted fun.

CINDY THOMPSON: A former national stepdance champion and winner of numerous fiddle awards.

NANCY WHITE: One of Canada's funniest and most entertaining performers, Nancy's repertoire runs the gamut from sharp political satire to wistul love songs and everything in between.

Sounds totally brilliant. So tempting. Alas, I am a long way away in England. Let me to give a big plug for Brian Peters(one of the music tutors mentioned), for any Canadians who may not know him. A sound man, fine singer, great instrumentalist. And he plays a couple of tunes he got off me. What more could you want?
