Subject: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: muppett Date: 30 Jun 04 - 11:19 AM Just a few weeks away from the Thunderbirds film coming out in the UK, I hear that'll have humans in it instead of puppets. Has it come out in the USA yet. Will it have the same enduring effect that the puppets had, I'll reserve judgement till I've seen it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: el ted Date: 30 Jun 04 - 11:40 AM To me, putting humans in it is sacrilege! But I don't think the modern sophisicated, spotty youth would go for puppets somehow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Blackcatter Date: 30 Jun 04 - 11:40 AM Hello, It'll be out in the U.S. soon. Just saw an ad for it in the movies. I doubt that the tv show was as big in the U.S. overall than in the U.K. Still I'm interested in seeing the movie. It looks like it will have a lot of energy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Oaklet Date: 30 Jun 04 - 02:46 PM In the original series, Lady Penelope smoked like a chimbley. For the sake of Parker's health (he has no choice but breathe the toxic effluent of her rotten, selfish habit), I will be boycotting the film. So there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,Prolehater Date: 30 Jun 04 - 03:10 PM Parker was merely working class and a vehicle for Gerry Anderson's humour; therefore it does not matter whether he dies of passive smoking or not. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: freightdawg Date: 30 Jun 04 - 10:47 PM Rats. Over here in the US of A the Thunderbirds are the show team of the US Air Force. They fly F-16s which are painted with the Thunderbird design on the underneath of the airplane. I was all aflutter thinking that someone made a movie about their exploits or some such thing. Oh, well, so much for that idea. Hope everyone enjoys the movie about the Thunderbirds, whoever they are. A very deflated, Freightdawg |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 01 Jul 04 - 02:48 AM But if they use real humans then we won't be able to see the strings! Rotters! Always fancied pulling Lady P's strings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Linda Kelly Date: 01 Jul 04 - 05:29 AM I was in love with Virgil for many years -I think it was the knitted jerkin he used to wear that did it-whew was he hot! Also-what does F.A.B. stand for? and what about poor John in the space station -what did he used to do for entertainment? best not ask. I did o to see a play in the West End a few year back where they wore the Thunderbird models on their heads -it was truly bizarre., |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Oaklet Date: 01 Jul 04 - 05:50 AM I read somewhere that John was an improving melodionist. I cannot think of a reason why, out of all of the Tracey brothers, he was the one selected to spend years alone and isolated in a geo-stationary orbit. "FAB" stands for er... FAB - a sixties abbreviation of Fabulous which is akin to the modern-day "Cool", used to descibe groovy things in general. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,An English Patriot Date: 01 Jul 04 - 11:29 AM "Well wicked,er Mr Tracy," as Brains will no doubt say in the new film, which I just know-just know- is going to be pants. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST Date: 02 Jul 04 - 04:30 AM Am I right in recalling that the original 1960's UK movie had a sequence where Cliff Richard & the Shadows appeared in puppet form? Or am I losing my mind? |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Linda Kelly Date: 02 Jul 04 - 05:33 AM oh yes Mr Barker a his best! I can never remember was it Scott who did the backflip over the chair int TB1 or was it Virgil (sigh -all those emotions are coming back)-how cool was that! |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: muppett Date: 02 Jul 04 - 10:44 AM it were Virgil who did the back flip, Scott did a twizel on a wall panel and Alan just sat on a couch. How come no one was ever in the swimming pool when Thunderbird 3 set off and how come you never saw them returning back and how did they recover the pod that had thunderbird 4 in it when it splashed into the sea. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: s6k Date: 03 Jul 04 - 10:13 AM this film remake is a disgrace. the rolls royce was a symbol of the series and now they have ruined it with the monstrocity vehicle in it now. furthermore, the actors are CRAP. i have seen adverts and the acting is apalling. i wont be going to see it, it will be crap. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,An English Patriot Date: 04 Jul 04 - 04:00 AM i saw the trailer in a cinema on friday and my fears - that the movie is going to be pants - was confirmed. They have messed around with everything - the uniforms, the design of the thunderbirds, Tracy Island, and Lady Penelopy, who has become an ass-kicking,wise-talking,no-nonsense-taking,street-fighter. Her class, style, and cool and have all but disappered.(I know I have spelt the name wrong-sorry.) Parker has been transformed into a thug. Have the makers of this tripe never seen the original? This film is going to be pants, pants, pants, pants, pants!!!! If it is not, I shall eat my own pants-after having worn them for a week! |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: muppett Date: 23 Jul 04 - 06:49 AM Has anyone seen it yet, if so is it as bad as I've heard critics say it is? |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Grab Date: 23 Jul 04 - 08:20 AM Re musicians and puppets, anyone remember the video for Dire Straits "Calling Elvis", where they turned the musicians into Thunderbirds puppets? Don't know if they just dressed the musicians up and put strings on them, or if they used actual puppets - the former is my guess, since there's a rather good shot of the drummer "puppet" twirling a drumstick. Graham. PS. Pants is my guess too. Not many remakes of old shows have ever worked, and the only ones that have were the ones based on comic books. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: muppett Date: 29 Jul 04 - 04:37 AM Yep it is PANTS PANTS PANTS, What have they done, hope the new series of DR.Who is done better when it comes out next year. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,volleyball011 Date: 29 Jul 04 - 06:04 PM What does the word F.A.B. mean in the movie, the Thunderbirds? All the characters say it... |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,volleyball011 Date: 29 Jul 04 - 06:11 PM The movie is excellent and the actors are really good!!! I watched the puppett version AFTER the movie, and I the movie is extremely accurate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Steve Parkes Date: 30 Jul 04 - 04:00 AM I gather they couldn't use the Rolls Royce design because of copyright reasons involving some toy company (who I guess will lose out on the merchanising now). |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,america Date: 31 Jul 04 - 12:42 PM saw the movie last night, watched the series growing up. Thought it was really well done. The ending was not so great but they kept alot of things accurate, like the sliding pool and the secrecy of the island. I thought Lady P was great. SO what if she could kick butt, she still reatined all her class. I thought with all the remakes of shows this was the best thus far. My 2 cents... |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,the best Date: 07 Aug 04 - 07:13 AM i have not seen the movie but i think the theme is the best p.s what does fab mean |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: SINSULL Date: 07 Aug 04 - 03:44 PM fabulous. Do not be tempted to see The Village if Thunderbirds is sold out. What a piece of stupid, obvious, idiotic crap! I (and a dozen others) wanted our money back. The ending was obvious from Scene I, so obvious I had to see it through in the hopes that I was wrong. I was wrong - I was right all along. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Bert Date: 07 Aug 04 - 08:24 PM I just can't believe they used live actors. Do they have those jerky movements like the puppets, like they do on the "Whose Line is it Anyway" spoofs? Now we must expect a Muppets with live actors or even a Muffin the Mule with a real mule painted up. The possibilities are endless. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,Peter from Essex Date: 11 Aug 04 - 06:45 PM I don't think it stands for anything. If you want a definitive answer there are several Gerry Anderson fan sites and bulletin boards on the web. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,An English Patriot Date: 12 Aug 04 - 01:05 AM As Muppet has said previously, FAB doesn't mean anything. Thunderbirds was made in the 60s when the word fab was coined - the Fab Four for the Beatles. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,An English Patriot Date: 28 Aug 04 - 03:39 PM I've actually seen the movie. My heart sank when the guy who showed me to my seat told me that I would hate the film. I did as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: shepherdlass Date: 29 Aug 04 - 06:07 AM I'm somewhat concerned. Not having been a lover of the original puppets, I took my 7 year old to see it and found it as entertaining as most kids' movies (the genius that is Shrek apart). No better but not disastrously worse. Who really cares if a producer mucked about with a story about a bunch of rich vigilantes? |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,An English Patriot Date: 30 Aug 04 - 02:41 AM They even updated the theme and totally ruined it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: GUEST,LJ Date: 22 Sep 04 - 11:17 AM I haven't seen the movie yet, but the theme's been sung by Busted. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds the movie From: Sttaw Legend Date: 22 Sep 04 - 12:23 PM What does 'F.A.B.' stand for? Nothing! Despite appearances, as used by International Rescue in Thunderbirds, 'F.A.B.' is not an acronym - it is simply a call sign like 'Roger' or 'Ten-Four' to acknowledge received instructions. At the time of the series' production, the term 'fab' was in common usage as a shortened form of 'fabulous' which, of course, everything was in the Sixties. The phrase has enjoyed a resurgence in usage in recent years and 'F.A.B.' itself entered the English dictionary for the first time in 2002: "'F.A.B. interjection British informal an expression of agreement to, or acknowledgement of, a command [from British television series, Thunderbirds]." - Collins Dictionary (2002) |
