In the late 1960's or the early 1970's, the Lawson's convenient food stores, located mostly in Cleveland Ohio, had a commercial on TV about how fresh their orange juice was. The commercial had a song that had these lyrics in it:

Roll ON BIG O, get that Juice up to Lawson's in 40 hours.
One man sleeps while the other man drives….

That is all I can remember, does any one know the rest of the song.

Thanks for the help

it continues "on the non-stop Lawson run" but I don't know if there is more.

from here on the mudcat (shoulda looked here first!)

Get that juice up to Lawson's in forty hours...
Oh, one man sleeps while the other man drives
On that non-stop Lawsons run, and that cold cold juice
in the tank truck caboose, stays as fresh as the Florida sun

Roll on, Big O!

Get that juice up to Lawsons, in forty hours

O the oranges ripen in the Florida sun,....
and we pick em, and we squeeze, just as fast as you please,

I thought I left Cleveland behind 40 years ago, but no... now I've got the Lawson's OJ song in my head again. Thanks a lot. The Ohio State football song will forever to me start with " When you go to
Rosenblooms you treat the family..."

Missing from the Mudcat version is the line "and the Big-O leaves the same day" which followed "and we pick 'em and we squeeze 'em just a quick as you please..."

We left Cleveland behind 45 years ago. Remember Lawson's but not their adverts. Lawson's is where we went after a hot summer's day playing softball for a quart of OJ each to cool off.

Roll on, Big O.
Get that juice up to Lawson's in 40 hours.
Well, the oranges ripen in the Florida sun.
Sweet on the tree they stay.
Then they pick 'em and they squeeze 'em just as quick as you please. And the Big O leaves the same day.
Roll on, Big O.
Get that juice up to Lawson's in 40 hours.
Well one man sleeps while the other man drives on the nonstop Lawson's run.
And the sweet sweet juice in that tank truck caboose stays as fresh as the Florida sun.
Roll on, Big O.
Get that juice up to Lawson's in 40 hours.

I know I should start a new thread, but I doubt that there are that many 'Catters that will be going to the Ghoulardi Fest in Parma next weekend to see Big Chuck and Little John. My work schedule's FUBAR, so if I can make it there, it'll be Sunday.

Well now that I have the Lawson's song, and the Rosenbloom clothing store song, the Robert Hall song , the Tick-Tock restaurant jingle, the Contadina tomato paste song, the Carling Black Label beer song, the Gold Bond beer song, and the Joe Finan TV weatherman Atlantic gasoline song recirculating through my last few working memory cells, I have to say as a true son of Cleveland, by the spirit of Gene Carroll, Frankie Yankovic and Dorothy Fuldheim, on the honor of my Hank Majeski and Ray Narleski rookie cards, that I won't be at the Ghoulardi fest in Parma, but if I were there I'd meet lot's of people like me! Who did finally find the Kishka, anyway?

After posting this, i went to bed and then woke up realizing that the Barnaby "Bufo, Santa's dog" song was going through my head. SOme songs are kind of embarrasing to acknowledge that you actually know, and "Bufo" is one of those. I have kids and grandkids and as soon as they are old enough to express opinions, to a child, they all have pronounced it "stupid". That does not stop me from singing it at Christmas time- I prefer it to "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" in the category of inane holiday songs.

Screw you all! Do you hear me? If you posted to this damn thread, just get bent!

In the almost 13 years that I have been around here, I had managed to completely miss this thread until a few weeks ago when some jackass refreshed it. It doesn't matter who it was, just anyone and everyone contributing to this POS thread is a jackass....including myself! Since then I have been on the "Big-O" every day. I grew up in Columbus and we too had plenty of Lawson stores and that stupid ass ad with its mind numbing jingle on our TV as well and once I heard it again its been squirreling around in my head all the time!

I CAN'T FUCKIN' TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!

In Ohio at least, Lawson's was a very early player in the "Shoot and Scoot" convenience store market. Back then the stores of that ilk were generally attached to a dairy or other related business, many times known as "Dairy Stores." Lawson's had their own milk and dairy products and became well known for two other "favorites." The first was OJ and the other was their "chip-chopped ham." The blue and white Lawson's Stores were everywhere around Ohio and you can still see the vestiges of many of them today used as some other business but often still a convenience store location.

So if you're as screwed as I am from that gawdawful jingle, I will hold out a good thought for you.......you can hold one for me as well.

Well, shit, man, ya know, erm, I can PRAY ferya, but I ain't sure it's the same (quite) as a "good thought."

A good ear-worm remover tho is the OTC antihistamine: diphenhydramine. (No kidding, it works. It stops the autoplay and puts the tune under conscious control.) I use it to keep 2,000+ gospel songs from playing all at once while I sleep. !!! And to keep spirituals from proliferating on their own while talking with people!

There are Lawson's stores in Japan - same baby blue logo/sign with the milk bottle. Saw them in several cities there and even sent pictures back to the family.
