Subject: Origins: Help Identify 40 folk favorite tape
From: GUEST,David C
Date: 02 Jul 04 - 01:23 PM

I have enjoyed an old tape of mine so much that it has fallen apart and been spliced together to many times to count. I no longer have the outer shell, just the insides of the cassette. It was called 40 folk favories vol 1, I believe.   Has anyone heard of this and what the songs on it were? I want to get it replaced, but can't find it anywhere.

I have narrowed some of them down

Side 1: 1. Unknown 2. Dublins - Leaving of Liverpool 3. Bert Jansch - Rosemary Lane 4. Unknown 5. Unknown 6. Ralph Mctell - Dear River Thames 7. John Renbourn - Maid in Bedlam 8. Unknown 9. Unknown 10. Unknown.

Side 2: 1. Ralph Mctell - Streets of London, 2. unknown 3. Ungodly - Decameron 4. Unknown 5. Unknown 6. Unknown 7. Gryphon - Sir Gavin Grimbold 8. The Johnstons - Spanish Lady 9. Pentacle - Once I had a Sweetheart 10. Unknown

Thanks for anyone that can help

It does sound like it could be a Topic tape, but I don't know it myself.

More like a Transatlantic sampler, I would have thought.

It has been re-issued as a 2 CD set entitled "Troubadors of Folk" (The 60s Accoustic Explosion). It can be purchased from BMG Music Service, 6550 - East 30th St., Indianapolis, IN 46219 USA. It is item # D 250792 in their catalogue. They do have a website, & it can be ordered on line. Do a Google search for BMG Music Service and you will find it. SOL ZELLER

Gryphon! I love their album, and Kemp's Jig is one of my favourites. Aaah! Brings back some memories, doesn't it?

Well done Rabbi-Sol & OldPossum

David, where are you based? In the UK? If so, I'm sure you could pick it up cheeper than that in the shops or on the markets.
