'Wedding Bells' by Hank Williams
'Fatal Wedding' by Chad Morgan
'Hawaiian Wedding Song' by Elvis Presley (too many a's & i's there)
'The Baron' by Johnny Cash ('he placed the ring into the hands that held him long ago')

(Ring of Fire IS a romantic song - June Carter wrote it when realising her feelings for Johnny Cash, even though he was married at the time!)

When the mistletoe was green, midst the winter's snows.
Sunshine in thy face was seen, kissing lips of rose.
Aura Lea, Aura Lea, take my golden ring;
Love and light return with thee, and swallows with the spring.

~Aura Lea aka Aura Lee

How DO you italicize and bold here? I noticed the usual commands don't work.

Subject: Lyr Add: THIS DIAMOND RING (Brass, Kooper, Levine)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 06 Sep 07 - 12:44 AM

THIS DIAMOND RING
Bob Brass/Al Kooper/Irwin Levine

Who wants to buy this diamond ring?
She took it off her finger; now, it doesn't mean a thing.
This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore,
And this diamond ring doesn't mean what it did before,
So if you've got someone whose love is true,
Let it shine for you.

This stone is genuine, like love should be,
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me,
This diamond ring can mean something beautiful,
And this diamond ring can be dreams that are coming true,
And then your heart won't have to break like mine did,
If there's love behind it.

[Famously recorded by Gary Lewis and the Playboys in 1964. Also recorded by Sammy O. Ambrose, The Chipmunks, The Coasters, Al Kooper, and a few others.]

Subject: Lyr Add: ON THE OTHER HAND (Schlitz, Overstreet)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 06 Sep 07 - 12:30 AM

Here's country song with a great "hook". The word "ring" doesn't appear, but the meaning is clear:

ON THE OTHER HAND
Don Schlitz & Paul Overstreet

On one hand, I count the reasons I could stay with you,
And hold you close to me all night long.
So many lovers' games I'd love to play with you.
On that hand there's no reason why it's wrong.

CHORUS: But on the other hand, there's a golden band
To remind me of someone who would not understand.
On one hand, I could stay and be your lovin' man,
But the reason I must go is on the other hand.

In your arms I feel the passion I thought had died.
When I looked into your eyes I found myself;
And when I first kissed your lips, I felt so alive.
I've got to hand it to you, girl. You're something else. CHORUS

Yeah, the reason I must go is on the other hand.

[Famously recorded by Randy Travis in 1985. Also recorded by George Jones, Daniel O'Donnell, Paul Overstreet, Charley Pride, and Keith Whitley.]

Too late for the original objective (first post was back in '04), but, how about one of the versions of "Plains of Waterloo"

"...And here is the ring that between us was broken
In the depths of all danger, love, to remind me of you..."

or "Saucy Sailor"]

"...but since you have refused the honour, love;
Then some other girl shall wear the ring..."

"Plain gold ring" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: -

Plain gold ring on her finger she wore
It was where everyone could see
It belonged to someone, but not me
On her hand she wore a plain gold ring

Plain gold ring's got a story to tell
It was one that I knew very well
In my heart it will never be spring
Long as she wears that plain gold ring

When night time comes calling on me
I know why I will never be free
I can't stop these teardrops of mine, oh no
I'm gonna love her till the end of time

Plain gold ring's got but one thing to say
I'm gonna love her till my dying day
In my heart it will never be spring
Long as she wears that plain gold ring

"Round And Round" (recorded by Perry Como)

Find a ring and it goes round, round, round
As it rolls along with a happy sound
As it rolls along the ground, ground, ground
...

--------

"Isle Of Capri"

...
She whispered softly, "It's best not to linger,"
And as I kissed her hand I could see
She wore a plain golden ring on her finger.
'Twas goodbye on the Isle Of Capri.

---
From Mother Goose:

Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
And she shall have music wherever she goes.

---
"Wedding Bell Blues" (Marry Me, Bill)

... But am I ever gonna see my wedding ring?

---
Rabbi Sol, there have been two popular songs called "Band Of Gold." One, from the 1950s, had lyrics such as:
"Don't want the world, to have and hold,
My life has one design:
Just want a little Band Of Gold
To prove that you are mine."

The other, sung by Gladys Knight in the 1960s or 1970s, I think, has the line:

"Now that you're gone, all that's left is a Band Of Gold ... "

---

There's also an old country song called "Third Finger, Left Hand," which is about a wedding ring.

---
I'm just a country boy,
...

Ain't gonna marry in the fall,
I'm gonna marry in the spring,
Mary me a pretty little girl
Who wears a silver ring ...

---

From "Leaving On A Jet Plane" (John Denver)

...
When I come back I'll wear your wedding ring ...

---

Elvis: "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck"

---
Teen Angel:
"...They said they found my high-school ring
Clutched in your fingers tight"

---
Carter Family: GOLD WATCH AND CHAIN

I will pawn you my gold watch and chain, love.
I will pawn you my gold wedding ring ... "

There are various songs where they exchange rings as love tokens - e.g Lovely Nancy
"Come chagne your ring with me ,my dear,
Come change your ring with me.
That it might be a token
When I am on the sea"

There is also a South Wales song - a varient of the "She was Poor but she was honest" type that has a chorus

"Take this ring from off my finger
Take this necklace from my neck
Give it to that false young lover
To the one I loved the best"

Will post any more i can think of when I have more time.

Subject: Lyr Add: NORTON NEW BELL WAKE
From: Malcolm Speake
Date: 16 Aug 07 - 08:54 AM

Just in case some one does want it, the words of 'Norton New Bell Wake' are as follows:

Norton New Bell Wake

When Norton raised at last my friends a new bell in the steeple
The ringers tried to make amends by raising up the people
One morn you know before cockcrow they suddenly got ringing
And for to make a new bell wake set all the bells a-swinging

Chorus
They banged each bell and rang so well so true their parts did take
From morn till night there was load delight at Norton new bell wake

Such ringing ne'er was known before they fairly shook the spire
They kicked up one continuous roar twas slam round change and fire
The guns did shoot and folks did hoot on hearing such a clatter
They ran about to see the rout and learn what was the matter

The beagle lead Sam Partridge made the second bell to ring
Then wrencher Jim the third pulled in the fourth did Collins ring
Dibbs pulled fifth and Atkins then chimed in the sixth so merry
Tom Mason seventh and the tenner bell was rattled in by Gerry

They drank to at a furious rate and nearly spent their store
Two pence was all left on the plate and they could raise no more
The warden coming just in time behaved then fair and well
They gave a shout when he turned out two shillings for each bell

At length twas night and what a sight was then on Norton Green
And what a squall on Osborne's stall when they fired a magazine
The crackers flew and serpents too made all the neighbourhood quake
Folk thought the devil had seen but civil and come to the new bell wake

Final Chorus
Twas crack and fiz and smoke and wiz the cakes again did bake
The powder stunk and most were drunk to end the new bell wake

I haven't gone all through the ring songs up there and just in case they missed it there's "Love is a Golden Ring" made popular by our own Ernie Sigly (?spelling of his name").
If you want to be cryptic, Jenny, you could call it "Click go the Shears" which of course uses the tune of "Ring the Bell Watchman". Joy

I've already quoted it elsewhere, (and still unattributed!), but, with reference to "The Lord of the Rings"

TTTO "Colonel Bogey"

Sauron, he's only got nine rings (carried by the ringwraiths/Nazgul)
Three are with the Elven kings (Elrond, Galdriel & Gandalf)
Seven, in dwarvish heaven.
But poor old Frodo's got hold o' the one!

(original version [Tolkien]:
three rings for the elven kings under the sky
seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone
nine for mortal men doomed to die
one ring for the dark lord on his throne
in the land of mordor where the shadows lie
one ring to rule them all, one ring to find them
one ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
)

Cheers

Nigel

Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash? Maybe that's not quite what you are looking for. You could always type "ring" into the Digitrad search engine, but you'd get a lot of "rings" that might not be what your serching for either.

I am looking for a musical quote or song title that mentions rings, wedding or any other kind. The only one I can think of (chocolate deprived brains don't think straight, I have found) is "This Golden Ring" by I don't remember who, anyway I don't want that one. I have just about finished a small quilt with golden rings on a purple background and I want to name it! I did a Google search but came up with zillions of sites for wedding stuff, geez that must be a huge industry. Any ideas, oh great ones?
