That last message purporting to come from Oliver Whistlemore was in fact written by some imposter in order to embarrass the Whistlemores. The assertions it makes about Oliver Whistlemore and Prudence Whistlemore are entirely untrue and constitute slander. We at Toypresidents are well aware that something unusual is occurring in the voting routine on our website. This will in no way influence our decision on when to release an action figure of Millard Fillmore. We have a number of factors to consider regarding which Presidents to release at what time and in what order, and we shall provide news releases from time to time in that regard. Eventually we do intend to produce a figure of every President of the United States of America, but we cannot guarantee in which particular order those figures shall appear. Stress to the other members of the board that if they don't manufacture dolls according to the poll results, the polling process will have been wasted and this will make them look inefficient and market-nonresponsive to the shareholders. And as for what the Fillmore doll could say: well, considering that it's common knowledge that Fillmore was the sexiest president ever, and that he had the first bathtub installed in the White House, what if he said something like "There's room enough for two in (hic!) here, Abigail." Riffing on Blackcatter's post above... here's another thing we could work on simultaneously with voting for Fillmore. Let's make George W. Bush come in last! Every time you vote, one vote goes to Fillmore and the other two go to the two presidents who are directly below him (right now, James Munroe and Lyndon Johnson). The numbers are pretty close together in the south end of the list, so he would descend quickly (and you'd have to keep checking to see which two were on the list to pass him next). Sounds like a noble cause, eh? The other thing I was thinking: I liked Blackcatter's story in another thread of how he was working in an election office and his friends conspired to embarrass him by writing his name in. I tossed Adams a handful of votes today as well (though I must admit that the first time I voted for John Quincy Adams by mistake). Certainly we can skip the elevation of Hoover when his name comes up. So I got out the calculator to do a little figuring myself: how many votes would it take to get Bush into the bottom ten? Well, to get the six candidates below him up to 700 points each would take a total of 1291 votes - but only 646 trips to the ballot box, if you give both 2nd and 3rd votes to members of that group. That's very close to how many votes we need to get Fillmore above Reagan. Clearly, this is an idea whose time has come. I notice we've got Nancy Reagan on the run as well now... Fillmore, Mrs. Fillmore, Madison, and Johnson, that's the winning ticket. Marion |
