Spancilhill is four miles out Ennis the Capital of Co. Clare, were you will also fine Shannon Airport approx 15-20 miles it is on the west Coast of Clare on the Tulla Road... The fair of Spancil hill was one of the most popular fair in the early 1900's people came from all over I.E. Germany, Bulgaria etc..

Bev, last April I started a thread asking the question 'where is Spancil Hill'.... the resulting discussion produced the original lyrics and the story behind the song. That thread was the highpoint of all the time I have spent on the Mudcat so far. I refreshed it to answer your question. enjoy

Hi! I am looking for alternative verses for the Irish song Spancil Hill. The version on the database is the one I actually sing but I know there some other verses. One verse that I have seen (but not written down!) has mention of a stream thru a meadow I believe. Thaks in advance. Regards, Bev Lawton
