Subject: RE: Welsh web songs From: sian, west wales Date: 12 Jul 04 - 05:42 PM ererzer? Re: the site, yes - a good collection of songs, many still in the 'active' repetoire. That is - sung in different situations: sometimes choirs, or soloists in concerts, or community singing. I suppose there are a few "sing-arounds" but I don't know of many who do Welsh language songs. It's not a concept that's caught on here. As jon said, there are a lot more instrumental sessions doing tunes, and one of the ones in Bangor does include songs. I know one guys who sings there and he would sing some of those on this site. sian |

Subject: RE: Welsh web songs From: GUEST,Jon Date: 12 Jul 04 - 11:09 AM Can't really answer that as the only sessions of Welsh music I ever played in were instrumental - used to be a good one in Bangor that unforutnately I only made once. The site I'd be inclined to ask your question at is http://www.welshtraditionalmusic.com/. I believe it is quite new but I think it looks promising in the area of Welsh traditional music. Jon |
Subject: Welsh web songs From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 12 Jul 04 - 10:33 AM See http://caneuongwerin.co.uk/a.html This is a excellent reworking of the old Caneuon Gwerin web site - it seems to have a number of songs added - including some of the more modern Welsh folk songs. I hope Welsh folk singers will send in songs to add. Some English translations would help too. I've been singing some of these songs at Chicago song circles - not always with the supportive reaction that one would like to expect from the open-minded folk community - "Wales??" they say....... Are there song circles in Wales that sing these or other folk songs? Chris in Chicago |
