Subject: RE: MUS ADD: Wernher Von Braun From: John in Brisbane Date: 26 Oct 98 - 06:48 PM Joe,
Tom Lehrer's songs are certainly a challenge to sing, particularly with just a Midi and no road map. I know that I have raised this issue in this forum previously, but Tom's songs are a good example of where a multi track midi file would serve Mudcatters somewhat better (once the larger midi was posted to the permanent database). For instance we could continue to post single line midis to the forum, and email a fuller version to Max/Dick/Susan??

Subject: RE: MUS ADD: Wernher Von Braun From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Oct 98 - 05:54 PM Hmmm...well, Jerry, I don't have any "illusions" about being able to actually sing this song. I think this is one that only Tom Lehrer could sing as written. If the rest of us want to sing it, we'd have to adapt it to our own style. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: MUS ADD: Wernher Von Braun From: Jerry Friedman Date: 24 Oct 98 - 05:43 PM Thanks, John! I could play the abc fine with ABC2WIN once I changed the final 19/4 to a 6, and it appeared fine on the screen once I added L:1/8. (It would look better with an E-major key signature, though.) If anyone puts the tune in the DT, you might want to note that those allusions (I guess) to German tunes don't go with any words. Otherwise matching the words to the tune will be hard for people who haven't heard the song. I don't think there are any allusions here, Joe. |
Subject: RE: MUS ADD: Wernher Von Braun From: Barbara Date: 24 Oct 98 - 09:37 AM John, I used the MIDITXT conversion part, and it played back iiiiinnnnnnncccrrrrrreeedddddddiiibbbbllllllyyyyy slowly. It often does that. I have found that if I go into the file and change the tempo, doubling it, it often will play at a reasonable speed. At the same time it creates a file that, when I try to turn it into sheet music, causes my music program MusicTime to lock up, and I have to use the three finger salute to get out of it. So, the answer is yes and no. It will be interesting to see what MusicEase does (see the Angel Band thread). Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: MUS ADD: Wernher Von Braun From: John in Brisbane Date: 23 Oct 98 - 03:20 AM Notice that the tune for this (and many other Tom Lehrer songs) is not in DT.
Would appreciate please if someone could check whether the ABC and Midi components - my registered ABC player (ABCMUS) is not well, and I haven't had the chance to play with it. When I used Alan of Oz's program to convert the text file below to a Midi file it did not work for me.
I have a dozen or so tunes to send, but need to check please that I'm not sending complete excrement.
Enjoy the weekend. I'll be in Sydney for several days.
