The most momestous news since Dumbarton won the Scottish Laegue in th 1880's is that King Arthur of Arthur and the Round Table was actually a Scot who's castle was at Dumbarton (so he is a son) he was buried at Govan better known as the home of Rab C and the birthplace of Alex Ferguson. This beats the last momentous news about William Wallace being imprisoned in Dumbarton Castle before being transported to London for trial and execution.

I've not heard that one before. I don't see why not though, he was a British (Celtic) hero who, most likely, really existed.

He is claimed by both the Cornish and the Bretons.

It's quite fitting that he should be honoured and claimed by Celts everywhere.

There's an interesting theory (well argued & very plausible, I just can't remember the name of the author, the book, or any of the details!) that in actual fact Arthur was, ultimately, the man responsible for the building of Stonehenge. So no, he's not celtic, he goes back much further than that...

He wouldn't have supported CELTIC he'd have been a Dumbarton supporter through and through. I can just imagine him standing onthe terraces at old Boghead Park shouting 'You're not singing any more'

Stonehenge has had rebuilds over the centuries, but was first built about 4000 years ago,putting it beyond even oral tradition.

Sorry, there is NO credible or well-argued theory that has Arthur originating stonehenge. There is a literary tradition that Merlin was responsible, however. But it's nothing like contemporary with any of the historical possibilities for Arthur OR Merlin.

If Arthur existed, he almost certainly was either Celtic or a Roman soldier (which would mean from who-knows-where). But the problem with any "Arthur existed" scenario is what do you mean by "existed." It's fairly clear that, on the one hand, many people really existed whose stories became part of the Arthur legend, from Lucius Artorius Castus to Ambrosius Aurelianus to Riothamus. Was any of them "really" Arthur? No. Was Arthur any of them? No--he was all of them and more.

And yes, for a long time there have been theories of a Scottish location for Arthur, but they are no more recent or better backed by Evidence than the claims out of Cornwall and other areas of Britain.

Apparently there was a Welsh king that actually did a lot of what Arthur was said to have done - united the smaller kings, drove off invaders, etc. His name was Owain, but his title is uncertain and might have been "The Bear". His time was a few centuries before the legends of Arthur became common.

I don't know any more than that, though.

Yes, several Owains of Welsh history have Arthur-like qualities, and the legend was probably shaped by their deeds too.
