Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 04 - 09:49 PM "It's up to them if they want to be upset about it." Martin, you are so right! It's up to them. And that is the key to self-mastery right there. Talking and sometimes wrangling with people of many vastly different beliefs for the last 3 years on Mudcat Cafe has had an enormous effect in helping to teach me how not to give my power away pointlessly to other people by letting them push my buttons any old time they don't see something my way. I have learned to have more equanimity and good humour in the process. For that alone it's been worth it. I think there's plenty of method in your particular brand of "madness". |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Once Famous Date: 16 Jul 04 - 11:44 PM Perhaps, Little Hawk. But the old WASPs here with their devout and totally hypocritical political correctness are by far my favorite target. As I have said, that clique is the one that looks down their noses at many in their pseudo-sophisticated manner. They are about as fun as diarhrea at a party and to me never enlightening. do you really think calling me "buster" can possibly upset me? It's about as lame as a man with 2 broken legs. You have to be tough to live in Chicago, tough to work in the corporate world, tough to make life work to your advantage in general. These little old men in front of their keyboards, plotting and seething very seldom really push my buttons. My posts are purely impromptu to them. They squirm like little girls that have a worm dangled in front of them. I really don't mean them any harm, but I will always push back when pushed at and expose their brand of complete bullshit. For me, it's as I have been saying all along, just entertainment. As for being Martin Gibson, I would rather be him here. If we don't have other lives than what goes on here, then I would say, I would not want to be one so pathetic. Always enjoy dialogue with you, Little Hawk. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Ebbie Date: 17 Jul 04 - 08:09 PM Martin Gibson, you may think that your peculiar idea of entertainment on this forum is a new one- but if you check back a year or two on other threads you'll find that there have been others who also claimed they were pitching the shit for the fun of it. You're not original, only juvenile. IMO. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Once Famous Date: 18 Jul 04 - 11:38 AM M.Ted, I have no idea who this Rabbi Loew is , so your post is as empty as probably your sex life. Unless it reveals how anti-semitic you are. I think, I'll start referring to you as M.Teat, as I am sure that M.Ted is hardly how you sign your checks. So M.Teat, change your shorts, today? Ebbie, I don't know or care about the other posters you are comparing me to. As far as being what you call juvinile, I really don't care about that either. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: GUEST,catter Date: 18 Jul 04 - 11:55 AM Its not the heavies on the cat that bother me, tho, at times they all have. There is one catter that is smart, witty, philosphical, funny etc. Yet occasionally makes very personal attacks on another mudcatter with similar qualities. This upsets me more than the heavies. Because I expected better of him. And because the attacks are so detailed, so personal, so well thought out. Ratbags I can cope with. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Jeri Date: 18 Jul 04 - 12:39 PM I'm with GUEST, catter up there. There are ratbags in every forum, every community, office, family... everywhere. Some attempt to piss everyone off with such dedication that it seems desperate. We have these here. My guess is that they can succeed in little else, interpersonally, and at least they get noticed when they act like assholes. The desperation, however, is just too blatant for me to take them seriously. Other folks, who come down to some nasty level to play, bother me more. I guess it's just that the threatening, rude, easily goaded, egotistical, whatever, plonker, was always lurking behind the public 'face'. Those qualities lurk behind most of our masks, in varying degrees. What I can't figure out is what makes people, who obviously CAN be nice, decide they can justify (to themselves) letting their 'inner asshole' come out and hurt people. I suppose what bothers me more than them just showing who they really are is the realisation that I'd misjudged them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Don Firth Date: 18 Jul 04 - 01:59 PM AHA, Doug! We may not see eye to eye on things political, but when comes to wines, we are in complete agreement! My wife, Barbara, who often haunts our local Trader Joe's (actual, they have several stores in Seattle), discovered Charles Shaw wines and we've been buying it ever since, both for our own enjoyment and for when we entertain. Here's a pretty informative web site about it (BLICKY). I lift a glass and drink to your health. Well, well, well. Judging from the posts above, Marty, you seem to be the primary off-pisser around here. Commercial offering possible therapy follows:— Follow Doug's recommendation and give Charles Shaw wines a try, Marty. They're sold exclusively at Trader Joe's, but there are Trader Joe's stores in Chicago. They are excellent, and startlingly inexpensive, considering how good they are. Apparently there is nothing about them that is inconsistent with kosher laws, because I have a number of Jewish friends and acquaintances (sophisticated, well-educated, and cosmopolitan, all) who are also very fond of them. One friend (who hosted frequent song-fests in his home for years and, although he is gone now, his wife continues to do so) said once that he will not have Mogen David in the house. He told me that he drank it when he was younger and didn't know any better. According to him, it tastes like grape flavored syrup. Now, don't say that Doug and I never did anything for you, Marty. Enjoy. Mellow out a little. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Jul 04 - 04:58 PM Actually in the light of "Martin Gibson" reminding people that the real person behind the curtain has virtually nothing in common with the "prson" who pops up here raging away in various directions, perhaps it's not so surprising. So "Martin Gibson" presents as a middle-aged Jewish man living in Chicago, who might be expected to have heard the story of the Golem at some time. Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Don Firth Date: 18 Jul 04 - 08:09 PM Jeeze, Marty, I've known the story about Rabbi Loew and the Golem for years, and I'm a Lutheran. Sweet wine!?? Fruity in nose and flavor, yes, but sweet?? Yeah, Doug, I don't think I've had a drink of hard liquor for years (other than a dram of Drambuie from time to time, and an occasional beer on a hot afternoon, which is nowhere near hard liquor). Barbara and I have a glass from the stock of Charles Shaw that we keep on hand maybe two or three times a week with dinner and, of course, when we have guests. A moderate amount of red wine is supposed to Roto-Rooter the plaque out of one's veins and arteries. At last!! Something you enjoy that's actually good for you! We like a fairly wide variety, but the Merlot is excellent. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Jul 04 - 05:20 PM One essential for a "good insulter" would be the ability to nose out some characteristic of the person being insulted, preferably one about which they feel a bit insecure, and use that as the basis for the insult, rather than just throwing out random off-the-shelf abuse. If an insult isn't in some way accurate, it's got no real force. So, for exmple, to get back to the playground, there'd be no sense in calling someone who didn't wear glasses "old four-eyes". Being a "good insulter" isn't something of which I'd pride myself. |
