Subject: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jul 04 - 06:47 AM There will be a Folk Garden Party at "The Rising Sun" Twitton, Otford, (Nr Sevenoaks), Kent, UK on Sunday 18th July, from noon onwards. The arrow on the map indicates the entrance to the car park which is about 50m down Twitton Lane from the pub. It's a pleasant little pub, selling good real ales which is the venue for the "Travellers Rest" folk club on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Everyone is welcome to come along and sing, play or just listen. Further details from Jon/Pam of Thrift Music on 01255 679232 (days), or 01255 674889 (evenings). |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Masterson Date: 14 Jul 04 - 08:22 AM Shame we can't make it - we're going to a non-folk beach hut party in Herne Bay! (B-in-law's birthday) Go if you possibly can - great pub and the view up the Darent Valley from the garden is superb. Dave, give our love to Jon & Pam. |

Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Richard Bridge Date: 15 Jul 04 - 02:56 PM Well I was going to go to Tolpuddle but my stepson Dominic brought me a really nice cold back from Colombia where he had been travelling, and I don't even feel up to the Old House at Home tonight (30 german tourists, don't mention the war) much less driving all the way to Tolpuddle and camping a weekend, so I am likely to show at Otford. I'll be the one doing the croaking chorus (fron the Frogs, by Aristophanes). |

Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 16 Jul 04 - 06:16 AM Richard, I reckon your easiest route has got to be A2 to M25, turn to widdershins, and take the second junction off, then Badgers Mount, and down Polehill. |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: breezy Date: 16 Jul 04 - 07:25 AM then round the M25 to st Albans for the spotlight folk club at the Legion where we have Lucy Wright and Paul Young |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Richard Bridge Date: 16 Jul 04 - 09:11 AM Actually, I think it's down that silly A road from Farningham - I have a hedgetrimmer that some years ago I took back to Godfreys the agricultural suppliers there fortnightly for an entire summer! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: GUEST,JOHN of ELSIE`S BAND Date: 16 Jul 04 - 10:00 AM Dave, So near, yet so far from Kemsing. Why did it have to be arranged on the final day of "The Open"? I`m tempted but I fear the sound of "Titleist" on "Ping" is very beguiling! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Nerd Date: 16 Jul 04 - 10:39 AM I think some of us not in England can't believe there is a place called Twitton. Must be where all the mediaeval twits were sent... |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: GUEST,Hugh Jampton Date: 16 Jul 04 - 10:42 AM Nerd, Not quite. Its a place in Kent renowned for its many and varied owl birdsongs. |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 16 Jul 04 - 11:20 AM Richard: I assume that the "silly A road" to which you referred is the A225 which goes through Eynsford to Otford, just missing Shoreham. It's a prettier route than my suggestion, but will probably take you longer. It beats me why they couldn't have had a Sevenoaks exit on the M26 - that might have made things easier. Nerd: I think that the Streetmap.co.uk hyperlink in my opening post proves that the place does really exist. In fact it's only along the road from Pratt's Bottom - and I understand that a Mr Pratt might even be coming ! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 19 Jul 04 - 12:28 PM In spite of the rather inclement weather earlier on, the event was a a resounding success - full marks to Jon & Pam - and of course landlady Sue, for organising it. They're definitly planning one for next year. |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Nerd Date: 19 Jul 04 - 02:33 PM Is there a Pratt Falls nearby? Seriously, I wasn't actually doubting its existence, just being a smartass! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: GUEST,Edward Date: 20 Jul 04 - 01:40 AM Ther is a "Pratt's Bottom" not far away! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Dave Bryant Date: 20 Jul 04 - 06:29 AM . . . . and if you're looking for buxom females - Titsey Hill isn't far either ! |
Subject: RE: Folk Garden Party, 18/07, Twitton, Kent From: Richard Bridge Date: 20 Jul 04 - 08:24 AM Shame to miss it but I was suffering from a germ, and the weather was to say the least a bit nasty, and it's a horrid drive from here, and by the time the weather cleared up I had already started the red wine... |
