White Horse Folk Festival
is a small, friendly festival held in Oxfordshire where there is plenty of good singing, quality guests and good company.
We start on Friday evening with a singaround, music session and a late night session. On Saturday & Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoon there are workshops, theme sessions or informal 'Meet the Artists' with festival guests. Lunchtimes bring the Big Sings in The Bell P.H. On the Saturday evening there is a special presentation of "Lest We Forget", an epic multi-media show giving a brief history of England through the words of Rudyard Kipling and the music of Peter Bellamy with Cockersdale, Dave Webber, Anni Fentiman & John Morris. The festival closes on Sunday afternoon after the lunchtime Sing.

we have just added an event to Saturday morning, a local veteran of the Falklands War will be showing over 100 slides that have not been viewed by the public, door takings from this will be donated to SAMA (south atlantic madal assn.)

WHFF is a relaxed and informal weekend, the ideal chance to meet with friends old & new.

How To Find Us: -Grove is a village neighbouring the town of Wantage in Oxfordshire. Upon reaching Grove follow signs for "Grove Technology Park" until you see signs for "WHFF".
Camping: - We have camping space for caravans, tents & campers on the Grove Recreation field and we use the facilities at Grove Rugby Club, including the toilets, showers and bar. We also use the Scout Hut on the recreation field.
Food:- Breakfasts are available at the Rugby Club. In the village can be found an Indian restaurant, pub food, chip shop, Chinese takeaway and café, as well as food shops. Saturday afternoon/evening there will be a "bring your own" BBQ.
Children:- Being a small festival there are no special events for children although they are welcome at all events.

Jon and I hope to get up this year as we aren't going to Whitby, but we will be moving sometime in August, so it might be a 'get a ticket on the door' visit. This is a cracker of a weekend and everyone ought to get along to it. Really friendly and some excellent singing.

Wouldn't miss this festival for the world!
As Skipy mentioned this is one big weekend party with a bonus of an excellent campsite and a Bar on hand in the Rugby Club.
If you haven't been before - try it you won't be disappointed.

Sorry, not going to be able to make it. No one seems to want to buy our house and we are going multi this weekend. Consequently, estate agents have to come before festivals this year. Don't suppose anyone wants a house in Cornwall...neighbours used to folkies!

PRESS RELEASE THAT KATE HAS JUST WRITTEN:-
WHITE HORSE FOLK FESTIVAL, GROVE - 12th – 14TH AUGUST 2011

This year's festival will mark 25 years since the first Stanford in the Vale Folk Festival in 1986 which in 1997 moved to Grove and became the White Horse Folk Festival. WHFF is a small, intimate, friendly festival where there is an emphasis on creating an inclusive atmosphere and encouraging everyone to play a part in the weekend's events. There is plenty of opportunity to sing, play or tell a story with singarounds and music sessions every day.

Invited performers are encouraged to be part of the general goings-on over the weekend and will host workshops, mini-concerts or give special presentations as well as performing in the Saturday evening concert in Grove Village Hall. This year's guests include JEZ LOWE, one of the finest folk songwriters in the world, a superb singer, guitar & cittern player and musical ambassador for his native North-East England; GEOFF HIGGINBOTTOM whose big voice, big songs and a big sense of fun have won friends up and down the country; and VICKI SWAN & JONNY DYER, great singers & musicians with smallpipes, accordion & swedish nyckelharpa.

Local and visiting dance sides add colour and variety on the Saturday, dancing out around Wantage and Grove during the day. Dancers will include ICKNIELD WAY MORRIS MEN, Cotswold morris at its finest, light & lively!; FERRETTE MORRIS, our visitors from Alsace, France; CORNUCOPIA, energetic Appalachian & British Clogging and ROSE HIPS BELLY DANCERS, graceful & alluring dancers from Wantage.

Then on Saturday evening in The Old Mill Hall, Grove, WHFF joins forces with White Horse Ceilidhs for a stomping English Ceilidh. POLKAWORKS provide the music guaranteed to keep the dance floor bouncing; energetic and lively, this ceilidh supergroup will have everyone dancing their socks off! Caller Barry Goodman will guide the room through each dance so no experience needed, just comfy shoes and a sense of fun!

Many of the weekend's events are free including the dance displays, music sessions and "Big Sings" . Tickets for the concert in Grove Village Hall are £10 and for the ceilidh in the Old Mill Hall are £8. Individual tickets for other events are available on the door. Best value is a Weekend ticket, which at only £25 covers all events and allows camping on Friday and Saturday night.

Full details of all events and how to get tickets are available on the website www.WhiteHorseFolkFestival.co.uk. If you enjoy live traditional music and dancing then go along and enjoy the atmosphere at the White Horse Folk Festival Silver Jubilee.
