Most folk clubs close over the school summer holidays.

How about Gainsborough Folk Club? Are you closed over the hols, or are you the sort of club that remains open come hell or high water?

If you remain open, does that mean the club is open this Friday evening July 23rd?

We never close! However, we are expecting it to be a bit thin over the next few weeks what with holidays and festivals. Despite that, anyone who turns up will be assured of a warm welcome and a good sing. Mike and I will probably only survive until half time as we have to be at Manchester airport at the crack of dawn. We will be there, though, for a final fix of music before we depart to forn parts. We will also be back for the next club night on 6th August - hows that for devotion to duty!?

Devotion is staying the whole evening and going straight to the airport after the club has finished :-)
Got no stamina some people :-)

Awwww give'em a break Les. I think we should wish them all the best for their hols and hope they return feeling well refreshed.
Enjoyed last nights FC at Ep'th and what a pleasure to see Paul(Young)...sadly minus Lucy for an evening, and Mike Wray showing their talents in what was quite a crowded club.
Stuart and I were awarded our first credits for ...wait for it....
"onarererererery life membership" to that club. What fun!
Be Blessed all.

Lots of people have received onarererererery credits from Epworth Folk Club but there are not so many onarererererery derogatories in existence! (I'll show you mine sometime) I even got banned once although I can't remember what for.
It was unusually busy last night - hope it continues.

As for Holidays - this will be our first less than complete night for this year - I think the assembled multitude deserve a break!

I think Mr and Mrs Sooz deserve the break for outstanding achievements through their unselfish promoting and supporting the Folk Scene through thick and thin.

A well deserved rest is definately in order :-)

OK clever trousers - I didn't realise the Guest, Me bit until I re-read the whole thread. I'm officially on holiday now, so I'm allowed to be brain dead!

Thanks Martin, hope you shake off the virus quickly.
Looking forward to a good night tonight - Mike and I will need a good fix of music to last until we get back from the Alps. I don't suppose they've tuned the cowbells since we were there last!

Well, Mike ans Sue are soon on their way to their Holiday destination after a good half evening of music and singing. The rest of the evening was great too.
We were graced with Lucys lovely voice and a song from Paul tonight...a performer in his own right! We had visitors from Manchester and from Retford who sang for us. Mr and Mrs SOOZ. Stollin' Johnny, Colin, Ray, etc etc. Another great evening of Folk music/singing.
Look forward to another great evening in two weeks. Be Blessed.

Yep, another discovery in the lovely voice of the (very) young lady from Retford (sorry, never caught your name) - is Gainsborough becoming the well-spring of young folk-talent in the UK? Please come back - might even put on a bit of guitar accompaniment for you!

Lucy Wright and Paul Young as excellent as ever (and look out Martin Simpson, Paul's creeping up behind you!), Chris and 'Mr. Chris', our visitors from Manchester - you're welcome back any time, Ray Padgett - great and unusual songs Ray and well sung, Colin and Jim - always excellent, what more can I say? Princess Fiona and The Donkey (a.k.a. Georgiansilver and Stuart) - recent starters and improving in leaps and bounds, keep up the good work guys!

And our usual crop of listeners - thanks to everyone who came. It's holiday season so we were a bit thin on the ground (I counted 32), but that's not a bad score for a 'thin' night!

Cheers,
Johnny :0)

Oh Johnny you say the nicest things. Just hope that young lady appears again. Beautiful and talented...mmmmmmmm. Not on the same level as Lucy with respect to voice but appeal........
Be Blessed.

This lady has a very nice voice and not too disimilar to Jackie. I think John's idea of a good guitarist accompanying her would really set the scene.
