Someone under the guise of "GUEST" is trying to start a rumour that I am in fact Martin Gibson. I find this kind of rumourmongering both tiresome and immature. I trust that all those who are regular catters can tell the difference!! "GUEST" If you are reading this then please try to use some sense as well as finding a mudcat identity before trying to confuse a large group of essentially mature people(with a few exceptions). Be Blessed.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
From: GUEST,WHO'S COMING FOR DINNER
Date: 21 Jul 04 - 08:33 PM

You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
thinner, because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.

There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run,
or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not be able predict the winner at 8:32
or report from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young being
run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a Red, Black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the proper occasion.

Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville
Junction will no longer be so damned relevant, and
women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
news and no pictures of hairy armed women
liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be right back after a message
bbout a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.

Gil Scot Heron, and you can find it on his album The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. It isn't sung. In fact, it is probably one of the first instances of rap music, but a much more intelligent type, with beatnik overtones. Heron was a member of the Last Poets, a group of black performance artists. He's now an English Professor at NYU.

Joe-Is martin Gibson a seperate member, or a mudcat member pretending to be someone else?
ie somebody using 2 different names?

if so=i think this is bad,
i only ever posrted as the same name here, [even though i changed it, i was john in hull, then joihn from hull, then sir john from hull]
but i never farted about with different names.

[i dont think i can on internet tv anyway]

anyeay, if he is using different names, then he is just trying to make trubble.

anyway=if you got something to say,m then say it, [in your normal name, not a different one]

there was some body saying bad things about me, before, as Ivor Biggin , and people tjought it was someone using a different name, i'm not bothered,
if you want to say anything about me [or someone else], just say it, why use a differreent name?

them people that do that, are just stupid, and got nothing better to do, than make truoble,
they should get out more, sing or play there instruments etc, not make trouble with differrent names.

anyway=if its true, why dont you stop them?, ie just let them only use one name, and if they use 2, dont let the new messages go.?

i think this is a good idea.john

I beleive Gil Scott-Heron is currently on parole for a drug charge. He's been in jail twice since 2001. A remarkable poet of the 1970s who probably did lend inspiriation to rap music.

What's that go to do with the thread?

Which is my opportunity to jump on my high horse about people joining Mudcat and NOT putting a profile up . If you are shy , perhaps the lack of a piccy might be excused , but basic info like what continent you are on and what instruments you play and what sort of songs you sing might just save a bit of confusion . Even what SEX you are might help , especially if you come into Mudchat under an androgenous name .

I assure you I am but one poster here. That is why I signed on here. It is much more fun and gratifying to do it this way, as opposed to the cowardly way you suggest. I find this a truly no balls approach.

did you ever consider that the literacy and most certainly the percent of spelling errors on this forum would improve if you were to take a hike? Or at least a big healthy dump?

I find this forum excellent for finding new songs and tunes. I have posted several where I thought they were of interest, or where someone requested them. I have also been the beneficiary of other members who took time and trouble to share information.

If I wish to identify myself to particular members where I think we may have common interest, I will do so (and I have done). I believe all should be free to do so or not, as they choose.

I am anticipating a truly grand bitchslapping session between Martin Gibson and jOhn from Hull now that the first couple of verbal stones have been cast. With any luck it will still be going on weeks from now. And these are two guys who have both in their own fashion given me a whole lot of good laughs on the Mudcat. Worthy antagonists, to be sure. Man, I oughta get a concession and sell popcorn or something.

British style 'chips' are big chunky things - one name used in Aussieland is 'Steak chips'. 'French fries' - as the Yanks promote them, are what we Aussies call 'Shoestring chips'.

Interestingly enough, the smaller chunks of potato have a larger surface area, and absorb more of the cooking oil/fat - thus are probably prone to being more unhealthy.

Yes because we know that a potato which has alomst no nutritional value, deep fried in oil and drenched in salt CAN be good for you.

The problem with obesity is that it doesn't kill stupid people quickly enough.

Blackcatter,

you're wrong in so many ways. First, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder (pun intended) about obesity, which I think is unwarranted. A lot of obese people are genetically predisposed to obesity, and you're being very insensitive. How would you like to be told that the problem with YOUR congenital illness was it didn't kill stupid people fast enough?

Beyond that, the potato is extremely nutritious. You can live on almost nothing but potatoes. This is why Irish people were able to become so dependent on it that a loss of that one crop killed millions of people.

Of course potatoes have nearly no nutritional value. That's why it's important to add lots of butter, salt, pepper and sour cream to them, right?

I'm not talking about genetic obesity - I'm talking about all those stupid fat people who each crap all day long such as bad, un-healthy fast food and snack food and wash it all down with diet coke.

My best friend was obese for 6 years while it took doctors to figure out she had Cushing's Syndrome caused by a growth on her adrenal gland. As soon as the growth was removed, she began losing weight and got back down to her normal size. People like that may need some medical help, but it's not their fault and more than my poor eyesight is mine.

It's the fat, lazy junk-food people I don't like.

And are you sure you can always tell the difference?

Your attitude, Blackcatter, reminds me of once when I was having a hard time of it with a meniscus and hailed a city bus about 5 blocks from its terminal, a ride which would get me five blocks closer to my destination. The driver was surly when I got on- and then changed his face when I dropped in the normal fare. He mumbled something about he thought I was just trying to catch a ride, i.e. too lazy to walk.

I've always wished I had had a quick comeback, but I hope that from then on he was a little more cautious in his judgments.

Ebbie - I'm not sure I get your point. I don't go around being surly to people who are fat. I treat everyone equally regardless or anything. So it doesn't matter if I can't tell the difference.

People in the country, for the most part, chose the type of food they eat and how much they eat. Sure you can blame advertising and even the fact that some food places like McDonalds probably lie about how bad their stuff is, but it's still "caveat emptor."

I saw a recent news article on TV (don't remember the show, sorry) about how difficult it is to get good, healthy food to eat in the poorer ares of cities. Supposedly there are few grocery stores easily reachable yet there are tons of fast food joints. I can sympathize, but my life doesn't make it easy to get good food either. I use a bike and the bus to get around and it is 3 miles to the closest grocery store. But I grow my own vegetables and make the trip to the grocery store to get good stuff. I haven't eaten in a fast food joint other than Subway in probably 10 years.

If people eat too much stuff and eat mostly bad stuff that's their flippin' fault. Yet their health problems end up costing all the rest of us millions of dollars in increased health insurance costs and taxes (for those who are uninsured). How do you like the fact that you pay money every year to cover these expenses that could be prevented if people just had more self-control?

I'm not going to apologize for those statements. There's enough legitimate health problems in the world without people hurting themselves and them blaming others.

And once again, this has nothing to do with those people who have true medical reasons for being obese.

There are plenty of people who eat lots of junk food and never put on weight. I have met some of them, and I was married to one - two years younger than me, skinny as a rake and would only eat food that had plenty of fat or sugar, despite my efforts to cook nice meals for him. He also smoked like a chimney. He is still skinny, but has had several heart attacks, a triple bypass, and several mini-strokes. After the triple bypass he finally gave up smoking.

On the other hand, I am overweight - all my family was, and lived into their 80's and 90's - and I have never had a serious illness at the age of 58. I would like to be fitter, but basically I am healthy.

If you were to see him or me on the street, you would think that he was the smart slim healthy one and I was the fat lazy unhealthy one, but you would be wrong. So maybe when you are making your judgments, you should remember that things are not always what they seem.

Jenny

Blackcatter, I'm not trying to pick a fight, truly. My point is simply in response to your saying that you don't have anything against "genetically obese" people but "It's the fat, lazy junk-food people I don't like." My question was are you sure you can always tell the difference. There may be times when you think you're in the presence of one of those fat, lazy junk-food people when it is not. As JennyO pointed out, things are rarely as simple as they seem.

And just like my bus driver, it is not easy to keep one's judgments to oneself.

My name is Johnny. I'm a fat person. I eat too much, and I like unhealthy food. I'm 5' 7" tall and 17 stone. In the 41 years of my working life I've taken 10 days off work through sickness, five of them in one go when I had Flu - everyone else in my office who caught it took between 10 and 15 days off, I took 5). I reckon that's a good score - many of my skinny colleagues take as many days off in one year as I've taken in my entire working life. Apart from five months when I was unemployed because I was made redundant, I've worked continuously for those 41 years and paid my taxes and NICs. I've also been a semi-pro musician for all that time and paid my taxes from those earnings. On top of my full-time job, I was a Youth-Worker for twelve years, giving up three evenings a week plus numerous weekends to work with disadvantaged kids, helping them through the crap that life had dealt them, giving them a view of a better way and, hopefully, giving them the benefit of my life-experience to help them with theirs. I've had two kids of my own who are now in their twenties and making their way in the world.

My name is Johnny. I'm a fat person. I eat too much, and I like unhealthy food. I'm 5' 7" tall and 17 stone. And because of this, Blackcatter believes I'm a worthless person, a figure to be hated. Blackcatter, you're a total prick.

Whatever.

I clearly stated that I don't go around making judgements about whether a person is someone I would dislike if I got to know them or not. This has nothing to do with that so you are all missing my point. When meeting people I treat them equally, as if they might be my next close friend. I don't care what they've got going inside. They could be a mass murderer for all I know, or one of the nicest persons on Earth. It doesn't matter to me, I treat them equally.

If you are a person who has health problems because you engage in a voluntary activity, whether it's unsafe driving, smoking tobacco, eating bad food, whatever, and because of that either my insurance rates or the part of my taxes that goes to social security/medicaid are increased, I dislike you. Because you have CHOSEN to not take care of yourself, it is costing me money, just like unsafe drivers endanger my life.

If you don't like that, fine. I don't live my life to make sure to get approval from people.

Blackcatter - I quote your exact words - "The problem with obesity is that it doesn't kill stupid people quickly enough", and "It's the fat, lazy junk-food people I don't like".

I'm obese, but I'd hoped you'd realised from my post that I'm neither unhealthy nor lazy. I work on average 55 hours per week. I pay for private health-care rather than relying on state care. I'm an accountant and well educated. I don't smoke, and drink very moderately - maybe three or four beers a week. I've never used illegal drugs, not even cannabis. I live within the law, my only brush with the law was a speeding ticket for doing 47 in a 40 limit whilst following an off-duty police officer. I loved my (sadly deceased) mother and father. I love my kids. I love my wife and am faithful to her. I make monthly donations direct from my salary to four charities. I played soccer until I was in my early thirties, I was a competitive rower until I was 40 and I played league squash in three leagues until my late 40's. I cycle. I go hill-walking, maybe covering 12 miles and 1,000 feet of ascent in a five-hour outing (not too many mountains in Lincolnshire). My resting pulse is, according to my physician, as it should be for a person of my age (57).

I told you in my first post the number of days I've been sick in the past 41 years. How many days have you been sick in that period?

I'm overweight. You're an intolerant prick. I know which one I'd rather be.

And I don't need your approval either.

"The problem with obesity is that it doesn't kill stupid people quickly enough", and "It's the fat, lazy junk-food people I don't like".

I still stand by both these remarks.

The first: let me clarify, if you have a medical condition that is casuing you to be over-weight, my heart goes out to you for that illness or condition. If you read the post where I mention my best friend you'll realize I understand that. If your medical problems stem from just the fact that you eat too much and don't get enough exercize then you are not only hurting yourself, you are potentially hurting others. If you don't understand that, I'm sorry. There are any number of health studies that show just how dangerous it is to be over-weight and inactive. I tend to dislike people who take their personal well-being so lightly. I've got friends ho are working through major and minor health problems that are beyond their direct control. I'd rather spend my time with them, helping them get better. I said "stupid people" simply because people who take their personal well-being so lightly are going ignoring the basic instinct to survive, and that is just plain stupid.

The second: I've not said that anyone on this list is fat, lazy (or stupid). If you take my statements as personal attacks, that's your karma, not mine. I have said that I do not judge people upon appearance. And frankly, I don't judge people all that often. I believe that there are people out there who are fat merely because they eat too much and don't exercise. Medical science backs me up.    I don't personally know any of them, as far as I know, but just because I don't know any doesn't mean they don't exist. If you cannot admit there are fat lazy stupid people out there, then I believe you have blinders on.

I have no plans to defend how healthy I am. I am not taking the stand that I am better than anyone else on this list. I am healthier than many obese people, but there may be others who are healthier that I.

Sort of like the bigot who says all black folks should die because I don't approve of their work ethic. But it's not a PERSONAL attack, so that makes it okay.

I do question LH's motives for most likely introducing him to them both.

And brucie, goat yoghurt is the BEST! Just speak in low sexy tones and there is sure to be a response...

Mick, I don't know about the rest of these folks and I personally don't care about GS's Be Blessed sign off, but my annoynace with him began here:

I am not the type to knock other peoples beliefs but I have to say that:- I believe myself to be a true CHRISTian, which is exactly what it implies. A follower of Christ and His teachings. We follow Jesus'Commandments which may be found in chapter 5 of Matthew and although refreshed from the Old Testament are not the OT ten! also Matthew 23-37-40 tells us the Two great Commandments. Jesus also gives HIS NEW Commandment to us, which covers everything we need to practice in John 15-12. Being a CHRISTian means unswervingly following the words of Jesus. He did not tell us to celebrate the Passover but he did tell us to take bread and wine in remembrance of Him.. an instruction given at the Last supper..which hopefully...if you are Christian..you do! He did not tell us to keep the Sabbath which someone kindly pointed out, has not moved from Saturday to Sunday..merely been confused with it. From time immemorial there have been two factions on earth...Good which is given by God and bad which comes from the devil....I was in the grip of the latter until 1991 when I smoked heavy, drank heavy, womanised, fought often and was generally a pretty awful sort of guy. Since then my life has changed beyond regognition...I fall short of the Glory of God...as the Bible puts it... but I believe and you have to believe before you can begin your understanding..not the other way round. I say to all of you, keep seeking the truth..yes I said the truth..because satan will lead you up the garden path and back again to stop you finding your salvation in Jesus Christ.
I was lost but now I'm found...was blind but now I see....My suggestion to you is..get a Bible with Jesus words in red..or highlighted...read them and then make your mind up....I know that some of you(just by the things you have written already) are not ready to find Jesus...that's up to you..but I won't knock your belief so please don't knock mine.
My website should you wish to visit to view what has happened to me to change me so drastically is http://groups.msn.com/allforourlordjesus Please check out my Testimony and my healing.

This is what I object to and I think many of us are responding to his prosletyzing and not his blessing.

When I wrote that, I was somewhat green to the ways of mudcat and quickly realised I had made a mistake but what has it to do with this thread or any other thread I have submitted or submitted to. Am I to be quoted this each time I say something someone takes exception to?
It seems I am the subject of attack as flavour of the week or month or whatever. O.K so I'm not perfect. I make mistakes.
Best wishes anyway.

But that's the way it works on most other discussion boards I've been to. People always hold your quotes up for tortuous scrutiny. It may be unfortunate, and certainly I've been attacked, but I hold to the position that I stand by all my statements around here as long as I didn't quote facts that are incorrect.

I don't take posting here lightly (especially in the music section since there people are often looking for real info and advice).

---------- ---------------- ------------- -----------

Mudcat is like a pubilc pool.

Some of us jump in immediately; others wade in slowly to take measure of the waters.

Some of us spend all our time in the deep end, getting into every discussion and even diving down to the bottom of subjects; others either stay in the shallow end, mostly connecting with the occasional waves from someone's cannonball; while others stay in the adjacent hottub that is the music section.

Some repeatedly climb out of the pool, only to dive right back in whne the whim hits them; others perfer to stay in the water all day long.

Some are purposeful and try to exercise their minds by doing laps and water aerobic-like reserarch and discussion; while others float around and let what happens happen.

And while the rest of us usually chose to ignore it, some pee in the pool.

Well, Raptor, as you can see from my relatively mild post on the matter, I also thought Blackcatter was out of line with the fat comment. I mean, wishing other people would die faster? How gauche!

But then in slamming GUEST, Martin brought up the "gizzum of a rhinoceros" (I mean "brought it up" in the sense of "introduced it into the conversation," not "regurgitated it") and I was too damn amused to pursue it (I mean, "pursue the fat comment," not "pursue the Gizzum")!

But now that I think of it, shame on you, blackcatter! etc, etc!

Also, did anyone else think it was odd that Martin first treated GUEST as a man and then as a woman? It made me wonder if there was more than one GUEST, and if Martin somehow KNEW who they were.

Come clean, Martin: was it a set up with some of your pals?

Naah, I guess he wouldn't bother; there's enough shit to be stirred up without making shit up.

SJ,

I don't know your law but I know ours. Before a recent change only women could be victims of a rape. Even then a woman could be guilty of rape even without having touched the woman that was victim of a rape.

That's how it goes (it was a trick question for the really good students): A woman let's say armed with a pistol forces another woman and a man that are not married to each other to have intercourse. Let's say she looks very serious when she threatens to shoot them if they don't do what she wants and the two rather have intercourse than risk being shot.

Then the woman was a victim of a rape, the man also was a victim though in our old law that wasn't called rape. The rapist however was the woman with the gun.

The definition of rapist in most European laws is the one who enforces a penetration and not the one who penetrates. In 99,99 % of all cases both the enforcer and the penetrator were (1) male and (2) identical. But in the tiny rest...

Anyway, women have been guilty of raping a woman in the history of German law, but extremely seldom.

Wolfgang

Technically, a female can, er, well, use an object such as a drink botle on a guy in a forceful manner, and that would be charged as an aggravated assault. What name you want to give it is up to you.

Post - Top - Home - Printer Friendly - Translate

Subject: RE: Georgiansilver/Martin Gibson

Yep Foolestroupe, I'd already thought about that one. I suppose she could do it to anoter woman too. Not nit-picking here, but the name it's given is determined by the law, not by me or any other individual. :0)

I just queried the assertion that MOST rapes are carried out by men - I may lead a very sheltered existence here in my little backwoods corner of darkest Lincolnshire, but I don't recall EVER hearing of a case like the one Wolfgang described, or of one like the one we're discussing now. I've never heard of a case of rape committed (by whatever means) by a female, so I'd postulate that ALL rapes are carried out by men.

Or maybe I've missed something.

Is true rape really possible by a woman? by inserting false items into a person, in UK anyway, this is aggravated indecent assault.
Rape has to have a penis in use. Therefore if a woman rapes a man his penis would have to be erect. If this is so then surely there would have to be some complicity by the male, as if he were in fear, what would really happen?
