Subject: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 21 Jul 04 - 05:10 PM Although the melody to this tune is quite well known, I have heard words sung to it as well. However, I only remember the last line. It goes "Everybody has the mania, to do the polka from Pennsylvania". If anybody has the complete song lyrics, please post them here. Thank You. SOL ZELLER |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jul 04 - 06:41 PM I saw the thread name and thought, Hey, everybody knows that:
The Pennsylvania Polka Rat-da, da, rat-da, da, Rat-da-da-da, The Pennsylvania Polka Ra-da-da-da, da-da Ra-da-da-da, da-da The Pennsylvania Polka. -Joe Offer, one-time Milwaukeean- (who thus thinks he knows every polka ever written) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jul 04 - 10:54 PM I meant to post that, Sol - it's by Lester Lee and Zeke Manners, published in 1942. Recorded by the Andrews Sisters, among others. I checked the lyrics in my Hal Leonard fakebook - only difference from above is "It's bound to entertain ya." ...and it's one polka that isn't very popular in Milwaukee. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jul 04 - 11:40 PM People take polka very seriously in Milwaukee, Sorcha. My borhter the agent says even punk bands in Milwaukee do polkas - or else they can't get wedding gigs. And no, they do not acknowledge that polkas are done elsewhere in the United States, not even in Cleveland or Pennsylvania, or even Hamtramck. They seem to think it's OK that Lawrence Welk does polkas, though. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: GUEST Date: 14 Sep 04 - 12:25 AM :) And it seems to be the same in PA, where we seem to not acknowledge polka's from elsewhere -Devina |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pennsylvania Polka From: GUEST,Bob van West Date: 15 Mar 05 - 05:11 PM Hey we do polka out here on the west coast too. Thank you for the lyrics Sorcha. I was looking for them to adapt to a square dance version of the Pennsylvania Polka. Squarely Yours, Bob |
