I just received an e-mail from a friend telling me about this. Those of us who went to the Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW) Getaway last year may remember her.   I certainly do! She and her mom Sandy also posted here a time or two.

This is the first Henry Reed Award. The money isn't that much, but the recognition by the Library of Congress certainly is. It's well deserved. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Fabulous! Elizabeth is truly a fantastic traditional singer, and surely will only get better as she gets older. I think it's fantastic that this award is being given to someone so young, who is really breathing new life into an old tradition. Congratulations, Elizabeth! Hope we'll see you again at the Getaway! And when's your first recording coming out...?

oh..almost missed this one...we (Ferrara & I) were fortunate to have Elizabeth and her mom, Sandy, and her VERY talented aunt & uncle do a house concert in out basement recently ..just after they had gotten the news of the award...

the comment from Elizabeth..."we're gonna use it for gas money!" (to go to festivals and such)

such nice, talented people...and it's wonderful to see someone of Elizabeth's generation with such a broad, yet deep, appreciation of many forms of music...especially the old traditional ones!
We do hope the Getaway will ne on their list for the fall.
