I should also have mentioned that I found some details of Wattle Records material (papers) lodged by Peter Hamilton directly with Australian folklorist / record producer Warren Fahey:

Direct contact with Warren - by 'phone or email - might get you the best path for your enquiries ... in the least time. If anyone knows the ins and outs of the Canberra scene and the National Library ... it's Warren!

I couldn't see any direct reference to the lodgement - or access to - Peter Hamilton material on Wattle Records. Robyn Holmes is head of the Music Department, but I presume this would be lodged with the Oral History Unit ... and my main contact has just retired - and I haven't picked up new contacts.

A direct enquiry might get you through to whoever handles the material. I have some details on the Australian-recorded material that is my main interest - but most of the overseas material came from other labels, such as Topic. I think Bert Lloyd (and some of the others you mention) may have had direct contact with Peter Hamilton but his LP was not recorded here.

The ABC web page about that radio documentary is indeed useful -- thank you. But what I want is a more or less complete list of releases on the Wattle label. Even better would be a list of releases with track lists for all the LPs.

It appears that Wattle licensed some titles from some foreign labels, but I don't know the details. When I have the time, I will send a query to the National Library of Australia.

Wattle issued several LPs by people who were closely identified with Topic Records in England (Ewan MacColl, Bert Lloyd, John Cole, Peggy Seeger and maybe some others). I would like to learn if those were recorded specifically for Wattle, or if they were licensed from Topic.

Since the stdio tapes and other records (and recordings!) have been lodge with the National Library of Australia's sound or music division for a couple of years now - I would expect they would have some details up on the web by now.

(I should go and see for myself ...)

I was suggesting that my limp excuse for an ISP keeps losing the string at their end! I get a few sentences into an e-mail ... then notice the mouse cursor give a few spamodic movements ... and freeze up ... and I know the ISP has disconnected itself. Actually, it seems to hang in fairly well, as long as I'm off into the wider realms of the web - but, as soon as I ask the ISP to actually do something ... like handle e-mail - access my time of usage / charges page - update preferences ... Goodbye!

I prefer not to change an address that is used by a lot of contacts - so I'll probably sign up with their 256k ADSL plan - but I hope they run that better than their dial-up service.
