Subject: RIP wilth NERO or ROXIO
From: GUEST

Roxio rips files from a cd OK --- in the correct NUMERICAL
order... [with no numbers assigned]

but soon as you re/list them they are listed in Alphabetical Order!!!

NERO is great for burning cds made from CAS or LPs...
allowing for EASILY/QUICKLY putting BREAK points between songs
greatly simplifiying the process

BUT NERO apparently CANNOT be used to RIP files from a CD!!!!

HELP!

I also notice when I use Nero to copy an entire music CD, the copy plays well on my computer. However when it is played on a regular CD player, the first 3 tracks come out OK. The others deteriorate in quality as you go along, and the last 3 tracks do not play at all. I wonder if my problem is related to the one our guest has ? SOL ZELLER

I use Roxio 6.0. No problems at all.

does the ROxio 6.0 user imply that TRACK NUMBERS are assigned
to the songs like this?

01 - title one
01 - title two
01 - title three
01 - title four
01 - title five
01 - title six
01 - title seven

after ripping and checking the songs in the directory
mine are like this - alphabetical A to Z????
NO track numbers at all

title five
title four
title one
title seven
title six
title three
title two

where did you find the parameter setting to add the
track numbers to the RIPPED files?

You know Guest, I have never looked to tell you truth. It always seems to assign the correct track numbers to what ever I am copying. I have never noticed an alphabetic listing at all.

I use another program (Ripit) that does the same thing. The only way to keep the track order is to write an m3u file in that order or to rename the mp3's so that they start with the desired numbers. That's because, unless the file name starts with a number, the default order is always alphabetical. First numbers, then caps, then lower case; although I don't know if windows distinguishes between upper and lower case.

When you rip music to MP3 the files are automatically listed in alpha - this is very annoying and usually ruins the continuity of an album.

There is however a free program called psychic mp3 which corrects this problemand restores tracks the correct running order. It does this by connecting to some massive cddb on the net. I haven't tried it yet but have heard good reports, get it here downloas psychic mp3

Good luck!

Let us know the results.
