Subject: Lyr Req: A hy mn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 07 Aug 04 - 02:12 PM or, "jewels in my crown". A neighbor of mine remembers her father singing a hymn with these words as he went down to milk the cows. It would mean so much to her to find the rest of the hymn! It's easy to find hymns if you know the first lines- can anyone help with the only clue being the last line? Thanks- Allison |

Subject: Lyr Add: DIAMOND IN MY CROWN (from Emmylou Harris) From: Murray MacLeod Date: 07 Aug 04 - 07:11 PM I don't suppose for a minute that this is the hymn you want, but one of the most beautiful songs Emmylou ever recorded was "Diamond in my Crown" As each long day rolls by and falls behind me In the lonely night there's a peacefulness I've found Tho' I'm weary even then When I rise to start again There'll be a diamond, a diamond in my crown I have wasted all that life has laid before me I have watched as all the green fields turn to brown But I shall not disavow All these ties that bind me now There'll be a diamond, a diamond in my crown CHORUS: Shining down some day I know Brighter than all their streets of gold When the burdens that I carry I will lay down And the sorrows I have known I'll see them all be overthrown There'll be a diamond, a diamond in my crown Through the passing of the years I will grow stronger Just as sure as this old world keeps spinning 'round Then the closer I will be To my sweetest victory There'll be a diamond, a diamond in my crown |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hy mn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 04 - 01:28 AM I'd agree with Sorcha--could it be "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?"? Don't know the time frame, but that was one of the "popular" hymns when I was growing up. Click for lyrics Lin |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 08 Aug 04 - 03:41 PM Hmmm. "When he cometh" wasn't the one. My dear friend (in her 80's!) thinks it may be in book somewhere and she said she'd look for it. I'll try to sing her Emmylou's song and see. She was pretty sure it was "jewels in the (or my) crown" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: John in Brisbane Date: 08 Aug 04 - 09:46 PM Does anyone know if the tune has previously been posted to 'Will there be any stars in my crown'? If not I'll post an ABC version. I'll have a go at harmonies for the chorus, but I'm not sure if I have the skills to make it sound really authentic bluegrass - perhaps someone else can chip in at that stage. Regards, John |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 08 Aug 04 - 10:23 PM "Stars in My Crown", from the Baptist Sankey Hymnal No. 787, was posted in thread 26480. Very slight word differences from the one linked above by Guest Lin. Haven't found any tune posted here (search not guaranteed). Thread 26480: Stars in My Crown |

And watch for Joel in "Sullivan's Travels" where he wanted to make the movie, "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou!" Chris in Wheaton |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: John in Brisbane Date: 09 Aug 04 - 09:20 PM I've prepared a 4 part NWC transcription based on a hymn I downloaded of 'Jewels'. I've asked Barbara to look at it because there are some 'unusual' accidentals in the melody line. I don't know whether the folk process has smoothed them out from a well intentioned original or (like many things on the Web) they were never factual. Regards, John |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: John in Brisbane Date: 09 Aug 04 - 09:45 PM Whoops! The hymn should read 'Stars In My Crown' - no, I have no knowledge of 'Jewels In The Crown'. Regards, John |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: Dave'sWife Date: 19 Apr 05 - 04:18 PM And then there's Satan's Jewel Crown or Satan's Jeweled Crown, an old Louvin Brothers song.. also recorded by Emmylou Harris and once in a while performed by Springsteen and his wife in concert. It's one of those marvelous harmony songs I so love to sing but don't have a lead singer to partner with anymore. I know it's not what you were thinking, but Louvin Brothers Gospel Tunes are treated as hymns by many people. I'd type in the words from memory, but I'm sure I'd get them slightly wrong. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: GUEST,Phil d'Conch Date: 14 Oct 18 - 07:10 PM “Turn your radio on and glory share…” “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?” [1 Thessalonians, 2:19] In context, it is the secondary definition of "crown" meaning the acme, summit or zenith of some thing. It was, however, the common usage that was folded into the Methodist construct of The Five Heavenly Crown's. Shout out to HCJB, Quito, Ecuador; Clarence C. Moore (1904-1979) and Ruby Moore Clyde Hunsberger (1913-2002). The lady was, as they say, a real pistol. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: BobL Date: 15 Oct 18 - 03:53 AM Could it be this one by any chance? I remembered enough of it from Sunday School to do a web search. Although after 14 years, I don't really expect an answer from the OP. When He cometh, when He cometh, To make up His jewels, All His jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own. Refrain: Like the stars of the morning, His bright crown adorning, They shall shine in their beauty, Bright gems for His crown. He will gather, He will gather The gems for His kingdom, All the pure ones, all the bright ones, His loved and His own. Little children, little children, Who love their Redeemer, Are the jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own. |

Subject: ADD: Jewels / When He cometh, when He cometh From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Oct 18 - 08:03 AM Ah Bob, but you posted the lyric I could not, so that makes you my uncle! I'll add the standard subject line with title, here in my post. Maybe a mod will come by and blickie up my video link for the tune. Out of several I sampled, that was the first with the tune I learned for it. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A hymn ending 'jewels in the crown' From: leeneia Date: 16 Oct 18 - 10:20 AM Actually, the old farmer was singing the intro to 'I Could Have Danced All Night'. Bed, bed! I couldn't go to bed! My head's too light to try to put it down. Sleep! sleep! I couldn't sleep tonight, not for all the jewels in the crown. I could have danced all night... |
