or, "jewels in my crown".
A neighbor of mine remembers her father singing a hymn with these words as he went down to milk the cows. It would mean so much to her to find the rest of the hymn!

It's easy to find hymns if you know the first lines- can anyone help with the only clue being the last line?

it could possibly be "send the light" or my bet for singability is "when he cometh"

I'd agree with Sorcha--could it be "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?"? Don't know the time frame, but that was one of the "popular" hymns when I was growing up.

Hmmm. "When he cometh" wasn't the one. My dear friend (in her 80's!) thinks it may be in book somewhere and she said she'd look for it. I'll try to sing her Emmylou's song and see. She was pretty sure it was "jewels in the (or my) crown"

Does anyone know if the tune has previously been posted to 'Will there be any stars in my crown'? If not I'll post an ABC version. I'll have a go at harmonies for the chorus, but I'm not sure if I have the skills to make it sound really authentic bluegrass - perhaps someone else can chip in at that stage.

"Stars in My Crown", from the Baptist Sankey Hymnal No. 787, was posted in thread 26480. Very slight word differences from the one linked above by Guest Lin. Haven't found any tune posted here (search not guaranteed).

Watch for "Stars in my Crown" on Turner cable movies - with Joel McCrae -not too bad a movie and they sing the song. And watch for Joel in "Sullivan's Travels" where he wanted to make the movie, "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou!"

I've prepared a 4 part NWC transcription based on a hymn I downloaded of 'Jewels'. I've asked Barbara to look at it because there are some 'unusual' accidentals in the melody line. I don't know whether the folk process has smoothed them out from a well intentioned original or (like many things on the Web) they were never factual.

And then there's Satan's Jewel Crown or Satan's Jeweled Crown, an old Louvin Brothers song.. also recorded by Emmylou Harris and once in a while performed by Springsteen and his wife in concert. It's one of those marvelous harmony songs I so love to sing but don't have a lead singer to partner with anymore. I know it's not what you were thinking, but Louvin Brothers Gospel Tunes are treated as hymns by many people. I'd type in the words from memory, but I'm sure I'd get them slightly wrong.

In context, it is the secondary definition of "crown" meaning the acme, summit or zenith of some thing. It was, however, the common usage that was folded into the Methodist construct of The Five Heavenly Crown's.

Shout out to HCJB, Quito, Ecuador; Clarence C. Moore (1904-1979) and Ruby Moore Clyde Hunsberger (1913-2002). The lady was, as they say, a real pistol.

Could it be this one by any chance? I remembered enough of it from Sunday School to do a web search. Although after 14 years, I don't really expect an answer from the OP.
