Last night a song from a number of years ago come into my head and i don't know who sang it. The snatch went
"Oh oh oh when I'm dead and gone
I don't want nobody to mourn for me"
It was not a folk song but i hoped some mudcatter could help me out.

John:

It is strongly reminiscent of "In My Time of Dying", performed by Blind Bill Johnson, Josh White, Bob Dylan and others at various tuimes.

Now, in the time of dying,
I don't want nobody to mourn.
All I want my friends to do
Comin' for my dying arms,
Well, well, well,
So I can die easy,
Well, well, well.
Well, well, well,
Jesus gonna make up my dying bed.

Amos
I'm afraid it did not have anything like the class of Dylan, it was just an upbeat chart type number.

Sorcha
It is certainly a sign of age but I am not certain that this is the song I am thinking of. dDo you know when this was popular?

Sounds like "When I'm Dead and Gone" by McGuinness Flint. Click Here!
The band contained Tom McGuinness and Hughie Flint (not certain if spellings are correct - long time ago...) Other band members were Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle, and I believe they were the ones who wrote that particular song.
This may help you find it.
Quack!

Yeah - the link Sorcha posted was the one I thought of right away.
"When I'm Dead and Gone" was a UK chart hit for a band called McGuinness Flint back in the early 70s.

Tom McGuinness and Hughie Flint were in there, and also notably Graham Lyle and Benny Gallagher, who split off to make up Gallagher and Lyle.

The link posted suggests that Tom McGuinness wrote the song, but I'm pretty sure it was Gallagher and Lyle.

Sorcha's clicky is the song I'm thinkng of, although I can't recall if the words tally with what I remember of the song. They are certainly somewhere near if not correct.
Quack!
GtD.

Yeah, the Blood Sweat & Tears. Definitely an upbeat charted number.
Featuring the vocals of David Clayton-Thomas, probably the best singer ever to come from Toronto.

And a great horn riff.

Dah dah dah dah--DAH DAH!
Dah dah dah dah--DAH DAH!

The song Sorcha refers to is Laura Nyro's 1966 song, And When I Die which is in the DT database. I believe the 1966 Peter, Paul and Mary recording was how I first heard it - the Blood Sweat & Tears recording came out in 1969.
