Subject: Talk to Me of Mendocino From: jmacl Date: 23 Jan 99 - 10:57 AM I have the lyrics, but does anybody know the chords to Talk to Me of Mendocino, McGarrigle version (or Ronstadt if that's what you know)? |
Subject: Chds!! Talk to Me of Mendocino From: Date: 27 Jan 99 - 09:48 PM Come on folks, somebody out there must know the guitar chords to this song! It's Kate McGarrigle's greatest composition and Linda Rondstadt's greatest track. And if you haven't listened to it on The McGarrigle Hour you haven't lived. So help a poor country boy from Baltimore figure out how to play it. |

Subject: Lyr Add: TALK TO ME OF MENDOCINO (Kate McGarrigle) From: open mike Date: 24 Aug 04 - 02:56 AM This is what I come up with after a few listens: TALK TO ME OF MENDOCINO By Kate McGarrigle I bid farewell to the state of old New York My home away from home In the state of New York I came of age When first I started roaming And the trees grow high in New York State And they shine like gold in autumn Never had the blues whence I came But in New York State I caught 'em Talk to me of Mendocino Closing my eyes I hear the sea Must I wait? Must I follow? Won't you say come with me? And it's on to South Bend, Indiana Flat out on the western plains Rise up over the Rockies And down on into California Out to where The rocks remain Let the sun set on the ocean I will watch it from the shore Let the sun rise over the redwoods I'll rise with it Till I rise no more |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Talk to me of mendocino (McGarrigle) From: Alonzo M. Zilch (inactive) Date: 24 Aug 04 - 08:57 AM "Talk To Me Of Mendocino" was a bonus track on the CD reissue of Priscilla Herdman's "Forgotten Dreams." A lovely version on what I think was Priscilla's most musically adventurous album, and one of her best. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Talk to me of mendocino (McGarrigle From: Mark Cohen Date: 11 Sep 04 - 07:39 PM Gypsy, I lived there for a few months in 1992. Commuted to Ukiah for a while, and then tried unsuccessfully to start a pediatric practice in Mendo. Even saw them filming an episode of "Murder, She Wrote"! (Because it's in California and has New England-style houses, Mendocino has appeared many times in movies and on TV. Remember "The Яussians are Coming, The Яussians are Coming"?) Wonderful town. I hope to be back some time for a visit. Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Talk to Me of Mendocino (K McGarrigle) From: Pistachio Date: 01 Dec 08 - 04:23 PM I've only head this sung by Flossie Malavialle... Wonderful song. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Talk to Me of Mendocino (K McGarrigle) From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Dec 08 - 08:11 AM I'll second that, Hazel. I did the support spot for Flossie at Lincoln on Sunday. 'Mendocino was on her set-list, but sadly she didn't have time to sing it. Bums! She did, however, sing 'John Condon' as a request for me. Staggeringly beautiful and very, very moving. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Talk to Me of Mendocino (K McGarrig From: GUEST,SunCat Date: 30 Sep 09 - 10:14 PM Once upon a time I lived in the redwoods of Mendicino county and I partially grew up there. When I heard Linda Rondstat sing it I had to track down the original. I recently was reminded of it again and decided to track down the chords since I no longer have the kind of hearing that would allow me to transcribe it. Unfortunately, what I found until I looked here was that the MPAAssassinators and the RIAAmafia have been issuing DMCA takedown notices almost everywhere. I was so pleased to find the Chords here and I thank you very much M'Grath of Altcar for that transcription. I can not describe the nostalgia and longing that song creates for me and I wish that I could express it to the mcGarrigal sisters, and thank them as well. Their version is better than Linda Rondstat's .I was close but that only counts in horsehoes & hand grenades, and I wish all the latter on the MPAA & RIAA! They have become a real PIA. Be Well and as always I remain~ In Their Loving Service, SunCat Lord SummerHeart Sanctuary of the Healers' Heart |
