Birmingham folk clubs - August

I'm stuck in Central Brum for work next Mon, Tues and Weds night and Mon and Tues nights the following week. Any clubs meeting in the area, where I could bring the guitar along and sing a song or two?

If there is nothing in Brum Gaucho, on the second Monday 23rd you can come down the M1 to Luton Airport turn off, turn left at the two roundabouts and follow the signs to Bedford A6, then to Barton le Clay and straight on at the roundabout to The Bull which is on the left. We will be waiting for you.

Think the Brum folk clubs are on Fridays and Saturdays. I haven't lived in Birmingham for eight years so I'm a little out of touch.

Haven't a clue what it's like but it might be worth a try. It's a Tuesday.

If you can pick it up, Folkwaves on Radio Derby/Leicester/Nottingham has a good gig guide each week, which covers large parts of Staffordshire - easy to get there from Brummagem

Get a copy of the Birmingham Evening Mail. It has a 'Whats On' listing most nights. There is a Folk/ Country section.
The Ceol Castle ( 5 mins from Digbeth), usually has something going on too. No floorspots as far as I know but they have some good acts on midweek.

There is a nice club somewhere on the edge of Erdington just up from Spagettion Junction. Think it is a Friday night.

I haven't lived in B'ham since 1969 but my dad is still in Erdington. I know the Jug O' Punch Club, which in my day met in Digbeth, was at the Lyndhurst Hotel in Kingsbury Road, Erdington, just up the road from my old home but I think was once a month on Sunday evenings. The hotel changed hands about 6 months ago so I don't know if it still meets there.

You need a train/bus to get to Stourbridge but Crystalfolk Wednesday runs all year (Thanks for the link Villain - I must re do that website!) Then theres a session at the Plough Wollaston Tuesday - let them know you want to sing, and I think stuff at the Garibaldi Pub in Stourbridge monday and tuesday. I find Katie Fitzgerald's rather loud and pop not folk - but that may be your taste.
Perhaps meet you at Crystal Wednesday?

Unfortunately I won't have the car with me. However the trains to Stourbridge look "do able" for Wednesday night. Is "The Bird in the Hand" anywhere near to Stourbridge Railway Station ? I've checked the site out Abuwood and will send you a PM for further details.

Trouble is I don't know where the train station is in Stourbridge.

Well done the Crystal network that taxied Ian to our door, and it was definitely worth the effort to hear him! A great night was enjoyed as Ian Pittaway, Andy Casserly and Tony Portlock also found their way there through the thunderstorms!

Hey guys, I can only second that. I really enjoyed myself. What a great club. Great banter, engaging landlord, wonderful pints, a warm welcome, great playing and people singing their hearts out. Thanks to Malcolm for the lift, and Anne, Ali and Steve for the assistance along the way.

It was really great. Hope you all enjoy yourselves at Burntwood, Whitby et.c. And sincere thanks to you all once again.
