Hello Fi,

I found this for you on the contemplator's site (www.contemplator.com):

Ruggleton's Daughter of Iero

There was a man lived in the West;
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
He married a wife - she was not of the best;
She was Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

Said he, when he came in from plough:
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
Ho! is my dinner ready now?
To Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

O if your dinner you must have,
Then get it yourself; I am not your slave,
Said Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

For I won't brew and I won't bake,
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
And I won't make my white hands black
Said Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

O you shall brew and you shall bake,
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
And you shall make your white hands black,
To Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

He took a stick down off the rack;
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
And on the back went rickety-rack
Of Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

O I will bake and I will brew
Fal lal lal lal lal li-do,
And I will cook your meat for you
Said Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

Here are two versions from Sharp's Collection with their tunes. There are some other version of Child 277 in the DT (Dan Doo, Robin He Married A Wife and Wee Cooper of Fife, two with tunes). I think I have some other versions of this too.

To Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

You may get it yourself for I won't be your slave,
Said Ruggleton's daughter of Iero.

RUGGLETON'S DAUGHTER OF IERO

There was a little man came from the West,
Fol de rol de rol de rol de rigero,
He, married a wife, she was not of the best,
She was the driggle draggle daughter of Peggy-O.

She wouldn't card, she wouldn't spin,
She wouldn't work all in the kitchen.

She wouldn't bake, she wouldn't brew,
She wouldn't make her black look white.

When this good man came home from plough
He says: My dear, is the dinner ready now?

She said: No, no, I won't be your drudge,
You'll get some other one to be your drudge.

And this good man pulled his coat from back
And made his stick go widgy widgy whack
On the driggle draggle, etc

O I will card and I will spin
And I will work all in the kitchen.

I will bake and I will brew,
And I will make my black look blue.

And if that won't do what I say now
I'll take the whip and go to plough.

The text copied from Lesley Nelson's site (see above) is the one published in Sharp's One Hundred English Folk Songs (1916). It is Miss Gooding's set, with a few editorial modifications.
