Subject: Tech: Hotmail? Yahoo?...... From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 17 Aug 04 - 02:44 AM I have a regular e-mail account for when I am working in China and when I can get braodband access outside of China. To cover the gap I have a Yahoo account, but Yahoo has become so slow recenlty. Any suggestions for a freebie account from you catters that offers reasonably fast access. Even with broadband Yahoo is very slow. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Hotmail? Yahoo?...... From: Fibula Mattock Date: 17 Aug 04 - 03:10 AM Beg, steal or borrow a Gmail account. Currently by invitation only, but probably due to launch soon - you get 1Gb storage and a great interface (it shows emails with snippets of content, like in a Google search). I've imported all my hotmail to it and it hasn't made a dent in the storage space. Ignore doom-mongers who claim it's an invasion of privacy (Google automatically targets adverts based on your email content)! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Hotmail? Yahoo?...... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Aug 04 - 02:22 PM I use the web mail access to my regular accounts (that download onto my computer when I'm using it at home), and I have a couple of Yahoo accounts. I haven't noticed them slow down, but I don't use them often. My daughter was experimenting and set herself up a Yahoo account in the UK, even though we're in the states. It works fine also. There is a place that offers all sorts of @this or @that locations via their service. It is at http://www.iname.com, and the opening screen says "Mail.com," as was mentioned above. I don't know how much space they give you, but you can get a more or less specialized address. "Jones@highschoolteacher.com" or "Jones@mortgagebanker.com" kinds of things. SRS |
