As it says, are there any sessions in Aberdeen, preferably the city center area or within easy reach of the university?
Thanks

Prince of Wales - Sunday night
Blue Lamp - Monday night
The Globe - Tuesday night

Check the local evening paper, it has pretty good listings. Also use a browser to find folk music in Aberdeen/Scotland. There seems to be plenty going on, especially if you have transport.

I'll be working in Aberdeen the week of 6th September, maybe we'll cross paths.

Goody!
I was scared I'd end up in a folkless desert.

Not been to Aberdeen for a while. What is the status of sessions/clubs in the city area? Any gigs coming up week beginning 18th Feb 2007?

Not much changed since the postings above.
ie - Prince of Wales on a Sunday - "anything goes"
There's a new "slow/beginner's" session in the Blue Lamp, also on a Sunday
Monday is the Blue Lamp again - mixture of mainly Irish/Scots, usually with some players from the Monday night "SCAT" beginner classes.
Tuesday - direct result of the "SCAT" classes. Haven't been for a while. Mainly Scots with some Irish - moderate pace.

The Aberdeen Folk Club meets in the Blue Lamp on Wednesdays.

There are nearby sessions which I haven't been to, in Newtonhill, and Stonehaven.

What do you play, Peter ?

Guitar and bouzouki, but I was thinking of just bringing a bouzouki.

I keep meaning to get to the Folk Club but I'm usually dancing that night. Will also try to get to the Prince of Wales session on Sunday, I never really have enough time for all these things!

I seem to remember the folk club was at the bottom of Union Street or the Castle Hill area in the upstairs room of a pub either on a Wednesday or Thursday. So I guess this has changed or are there two clubs now?

Only the 1 club. They moved [were thrown out] - the Blue Lamp is a much better venue.
Crystal - I do not recommend the Prince Of Wales, but you should maybe go and make your own mind up.
Peter - the Blue Lamp session might be worth going to next Monday. The Aberdeen Feis will just have finished, and some of the tutors may still be about looking for a tune. They did that last year, and I'd heard the session was very good.I might manage along myself - I'll be the one playing flute.

So, looks like the Blue Lamp Monday, The Globe Tuesday, The Blue Lamp on Wednesday and for Thursday - oh well, three nights is pretty good!

The very first time I went to the PoW it was OK, but that was a very long time ago, maybe five or six years. I'd be there if I was around - live music beats a hotel room.

Kenny, I'll look out for you, I'll have a largeish tear drop bouzouki with me. Crystal, will you be around? Do you sing, play?

Peter - try to get there around 8.30. It doesn't usually start until 9.30ish. I'll try to round up a few players for a few tunes before it gets too busy.

Hi Kenny
Yes, it's Dave Crooks. I was in Aberdeen from 73 to 78, at the same time as Mr Trodden and Maggie Fitzsimmons (Crowe) and John Brown etc. Drop me a line at the above address and I'll get back to you.
Cheers
