Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Janie Date: 27 Sep 04 - 10:02 PM OHMYGOSH!!! Let me be the first to officially sign up for the clone workshop. No matter what the final program is, I can see I am going to have lots of conflicts. As already noted, what a nice problem to have:>) Janie |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: CET Date: 27 Sep 04 - 10:40 PM That's going to be a great program. I wouldn't want to change any of it. However, if there any spots left open, do you think a session on crime(outlaws, highwaymen, prisons, hangings, beheadings, etc)might be possible? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: karen k Date: 27 Sep 04 - 10:51 PM I'll second CET's crime suggestion. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 27 Sep 04 - 11:17 PM You might want to read the preliminary list of workshops again. "Crime & Punishment" is on it. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 27 Sep 04 - 11:33 PM Ha, thanks, Jeri. Question: Would it be clearer (and maybe more appealing) if we just called it Crime? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ebbie Date: 28 Sep 04 - 12:46 AM Whoa! I say, Whoa! On this side of the American continent, at least, there are only 24 hours a day available. Just how is this done? Actually, I would love to see a tentative agenda- when do things begin, how many things overlap, when do things end? At this rate, it feels like the only time we'll get to just plain play is while loping between activities. Love it. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Big Mick Date: 28 Sep 04 - 12:53 AM Ebbie (I am so excited to meet you and KT!!!) the workshops run all day, and the sessions where we just sit and play run all night. Don't figure on a full nights sleep while you are here. After dinner, folks start separating out into sessions, and everyone is welcome to sit in on any one of them. You will not be hurting for time to play together. BTW, what instruments are you and KT bringing? all the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: KT Date: 28 Sep 04 - 01:22 AM Awww, Ebbie, I KNEW we should've planned on taking two months!!! KT |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: kendall Date: 28 Sep 04 - 06:38 AM My advice to all, don't miss El Grecko, and not just because he will be playing my highly prized 12 string Apollo Guitar! |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: George Papavgeris Date: 28 Sep 04 - 06:41 AM With my girth it will be hard to miss me, Kendall - but thank you very much for the endorsement! The cheque's in the post...;-) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: MMario Date: 28 Sep 04 - 08:45 AM Ebbie - why do you think we need a workshop on cloning? and yes - it pretty much does go 24 hours a day. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Mantid Date: 28 Sep 04 - 09:57 AM Dancing Jams again, YIIPPEE. I'll bring my dancing shoes. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bill D Date: 28 Sep 04 - 12:19 PM since Camp Ramblewood (once cleverly called "Camp Escher") is on a hill, all you need to do for your exercise program is choose workshops that require moving from one building to another.... If your goal is to avoid exercise, pick one spot for morning and one for afternoon, and dont move....you will have fun either way. For those who have never been there, I will post some 'general' pictures of what former years looked like...maybe later today. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: CET Date: 28 Sep 04 - 05:52 PM Jeri: Read the earlier post so that I get my information straight? Oh, sure. What harebrained scheme will you come up with next? Edmund |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 28 Sep 04 - 08:44 PM Edmund, it's just in my nature to come up with ideas that no one has thought of before. I thought I was being terribly original. Rita, I think one always has to address 'punishment' when they talk about 'crime'. Otherwise, it just looks like bad guys get away with all sorts of things. Plus, there are a few songs about punisment that don't talk about the crime. All those 'gallows tree' songs where people are wondering what they're going to get when the guy's dead. A huge percentage of All Songs Ever Written will fit this workshops... murder, theft, rape, poaching, incest, adultery, beheadings, hangings, naked pages with big swords, damning people's eyes, eels (or marrowbones), throwing people off the ship or leaving them on and sinking it, transporting people someplace horrible such as Australia... ...maybe you should have a workshop for "Songs that Don't Fit in Crime & Punishment." There ought to be a couple. Ebbie, Friday night ends when people fall over. Saturday, there are workshops, then the concert, then it ends when people fall over. Sunday is a lot like Saturday, but with gospel music. On Monday, we eat breakfast and sing (if our voices still work), and we try to avoid falling over because it was too hard to get up in the first place. At some point on Monday, various 'shooers' come around with cattle prods and tell us to go home. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Amos Date: 28 Sep 04 - 11:15 PM Jeri: You are a Genuine Original and a Piece O' Work! Love, Amos |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Susan A-R Date: 28 Sep 04 - 11:58 PM This time I'm going to get a good night's sleep, or two or three, before I get there, so I don't need any while I'm there. Then I won't have to pack the sleeping bag. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 29 Sep 04 - 12:26 AM Okay, Crime & Punishment it is. Guess it will need to be a three hour session, huh? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 04 - 02:41 AM "Ebbie, Friday night ends when people fall over. I'm very excited about the whole thing- and am REALLY looking forward to meeting and hearing everybody. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: karen k Date: 29 Sep 04 - 03:18 AM Last year's Getaway was wonderful. I've often thought during this year that it just couldn't get any better. But now, after reading all this I'm not so sure. Waiting for the Getaway to come around again keeps me going all year long. I feel sorry for anyone who can't make it. Rita, Carly, Nancy, and all the other behind the scenes folk, thanks for all the hard work you are doing on this weekend. I can't wait! karen |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 29 Sep 04 - 05:13 PM My check is in the mail finally. Is there an agenda yet? SINS |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Nancy King Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:33 PM Sinsull, the list posted in this thread by Rita on 9/27 at 9:56 p.m. is as close as we can come to an "agenda" at this point. We're still waiting for responses from some of the people we have contacted, and when we get those, we'll have to sit down and figure things out more closely. But that list should give you a general idea, keeping in mind all the caveats Rita mentioned. Whatever the exact program, it's bound to be a blast! We haven't had a bad Getaway yet, and this is the 40th one! Hmm, I guess I'd better get my registration in! I was waiting till I found out if I could stay over till Monday morning, but it looks like that's not to be. One of these years... Anyhow, folks, your patience will be rewarded before long! Looking forward to seeing everybody! Nancy |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 12:12 AM After tonight's meeting we're 98 percent there, folks. We like it. Hope you will too. But I have to do a bit of typing before I can post what we have. We'll have the schedule and everything for your review, tomorrow or Friday. I may even post the list of workshops tonight but don't hold your breath. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 12:39 AM The revised workshop list is available at this location . Schedules tomorrow. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Tannywheeler Date: 07 Oct 04 - 02:25 AM Jeez -- You guys throw a party, you really get after it, huh? Was it Letterman who coined the phrase "...more fun than human beings should be allowed to have"? I'm drooling. Is there a regular time for this thing? Always the 3rd weekend in October? Or some other milepost? I'd like to start saving for next year. Tw |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: MMario Date: 07 Oct 04 - 05:33 AM The list looks good!!! |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:00 PM Here is the Getaway schedule: Saturday schedule grid Sunday schedule grid To print these files, it may help to select "Landscape" in the printer file setup. Proofread them, please! I know there are errors. The timing of the workshops was very tight this year. There are a number of leaders with time constraints, which limited us. We try to set up different styles of workshops for various musical tastes in each time slot. But we know most of us have wide ranging musical interests so of course there are conflicts. Workshop leaders, make sure we haven't scheduled you in two places at the same time. Make sure your name is spelled right. Make sure the workshop we have you doing is the right one! And, please let us know if you have a conflict, or are very unhappy about missing whatever is scheduled against you. We may be able to move you, although it is a very tight schedule. Or, we may be able to find another co-leader to assist or replace you so you can see at least part of the conflicting workshop. We have been asked to set up workshops on "The Songs Kids Really Sing" and on "Nature, Plants, Trees, Gardens" etc. The problem with "Nature" is that it had to be scheduled against some real blockbuster workshops. We moved it about four times but in a nice, full schedule there are always conflicts. Would anyone like to lead this, where we have it scheduled? The problem with "Kids" is that we just didn't know who to ask. Who is fluent in this kind of song? The kids concerned are about 9 to 12 years old and have made it clear they don't want "nice" songs about little duckies, they want parodies and irreverent stuff if possible. Rita |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Janie Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:10 PM What a line up! Rita, I pm'ed you about the nature workshop. Janie |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,MMario Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:21 PM WOW! I see One particular hour that I think is going to have a number of people going schizoid - but given the workshops - I suspect there is going to be one of those somewhere in the schedule regardless of what is done. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:30 PM SINSULL (and Kendall, probably) are going to miss half of the Fielding workshop on Saturday, and I'll miss half of theirs. (I almost said 'Rick' workshop, but there are enough guys named Richard - Mostly 'Dick' - so you could use that as a title some year. 'The Large Richard Workshop'. I'll stop now. Anyway, they'll miss half, but if you slide the RF workshop down, I'll miss Elizabeth LaPrelle, and I'll complain about that. Sunday, from 11:30 to lunch, I want to be at everything listed. I don't think you can do much about that though. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bill D Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:34 PM I see several hours that will enhance my exercise program as I RUN from one one building to another....but I can't remember any year when that hasn't been the case. ....but I was younger once... (Sometimes, I like discovering that there is an hour when I can just relax and sit & visit!) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,MMario Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:39 PM looks like I'm finally going to go inside "the white house" - never managed to get there before. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: George Papavgeris Date: 07 Oct 04 - 01:56 PM The way I see it, I will need an "out of body" experience to catch half of what I want... (Now, where were those mushrooms...) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 03:59 PM This is great, Janie's going to lead the Nature workshop, which I really appreciate. I had at least 4 requests this year for workshops on plants, gardens, trees and I forget what else on this topic. Sinsull, I see what you mean. I'm starting a list of conflicts we might be able to do something about, so I'll put your comments on it. By the way, I'm going to start a thread (Prety Soon Now, when I have some leisure time ha-ha....) on Elizabeth LaPrelle's brand new first CD. Oh my goodness it is good. She'll have them at the Getaway, of course. Bill, sorry, we should have realized we needed to set up an hour each day where there were only boring workshops :-) Rita |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,MMario Date: 07 Oct 04 - 04:02 PM Bill - you said I like discovering that there is an hour when I can just relax and sit & visit Isn't that what the wee hours of the morning are for? Tinker and I keep ending up standing outside the cabin at some un-earthly hour chit-chatting. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Alaska Mike Date: 07 Oct 04 - 04:08 PM Rita, I see there is a conflict for me between my mini concert and the song writing workshop which I was hoping to attend. Its is NOT critical, but if I could attend both it would be appreciated. I'm sure if you do change it there will be some other conflict that results. Oh well, pass the mushrooms George. Mike |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 04:11 PM GETAWAY CRAFT & CD MARKETPLACE The space between the dining hall and the TV room is our Marketplace. For example, Folk Legacy and Camsco Music set up tables there when they can get to the Getaway. And Bill and I set up a table of our woodworking. Etc Etc Etc. Feel free to bring your own CD's or crafts for sale. Except for FL and Camsco it's mostly on the honor system, since no one wants to sit and take money when they could be off making music. This year we're asking people if they would make a donation, earmarked either for the Getaway Fund or the Scholarship Fund, based on 3 to 5 percent of their craft and CD sales. It's purely voluntary though! We have a Silent Auction in the marketplace area to benefit the Getaway Scholarship Fund. (Minimum bid increase is $1.00) Be generous in your bids -- it benefits us all since it lets some of our favorite people come to the Getaway in years when they couldn't afford it otherwise. This year, there will be a Make-Your-Own-Earrings area, with materials, findings, & instructions. It will be available all weekend and the small fee will benefit the Scholarship fund. Any other ideas & suggestions? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 04:24 PM Jeri, sorry, it was you who pointed out the conflict between Sinsull's Hank Williams workshop and the Rick Fielding workshop. Anyway the concern is noted. Yours, too, Mike. There's no point starting to try to shift workshops around until we collect most or all of the feedback, but we'll give it some thought. Thanks for the feedback. Rita |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Alaska Mike Date: 07 Oct 04 - 06:16 PM Rita, my hat's off to you and the others who schedule the workshops, concerts and misc activities for the Getaway. I have scheduled complex festivals myself and know what is involved. Please disregard my previous post as nothing more than long distance whining. I will gladly adjust to the schedule however it comes out in its final form. YIPPEE, ONE MORE WEEK!!!!! Mike |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 08:35 PM Well, Mike, you said it isn't critical, so I don't feel your request puts any pressure on us. And it didn't sound like whining/whinging, just an honest comment on what you would prefer. But, you know, I have been rushing to get this posted for more than one reason: First, people are very eager to see it; and second, we now have until Tuesday to get people's feedback and see if we can tweak it into being a bit better for everyone. ... And then give people a quick chance to look at the tweaked version, and see what we inadvertently made much worse.... If I can move all the songs in the White House back for half an hour, for instance, so that Kids doesn't totally overlap Kendal & Jacqui's wedding celebration, we can have a fantastic leader for kids songs (Gorgeous Gary, who never stopped being a kid, thank heaven....). One great thing about the Web is this kind of feedback loop is now possible. You may an e-mail annoucement as well as the notice on this thread. We want to reach the non-mudcatters for their feedback too, so will e-mail all the registered people and the ones we know have been lollygagging and aren't registered yet but we know they are coming. :-) The Committee may not be able to meet before Sunday, but we may do a few things via phone and e-mail. Rita |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Dani Date: 07 Oct 04 - 09:56 PM This lollygagger sent in her registration today. Dani |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 07 Oct 04 - 10:04 PM My brain is exploding! I can't be in three places at once! Guess that means another great Getaway. I thought the wedding hour was supposed to be a surprise. Kendall was genuinely concerned when I acted stupid today (Don't say it, Captain!) about what he and Jacqui were planning for an affair. I asked about a sit down supper. Does SHIVEREE mean anything to you people? hee hee. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 07 Oct 04 - 10:32 PM YAY Dani! Oh No Sinsull, you wouldn't!!!! WEll, I guess you would -- maybe we should keep their cabin assignment a secret? Anyway, Tinker and I sorta decided it was time to go public with the wedding party. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Tinker Date: 08 Oct 04 - 07:54 AM SINS, look at the schedule, a sit down LUNCHEON is much easier to place in this time slot. And Dinner is so much more formal....The Cap'n requested simple, and by scheduling things around luncheon we can avoid the necessity of black tie and move to simple elegance as a dress code. Now if you can just convince Kendall that a Top Hat is fitting and proper.... |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,MMario Date: 08 Oct 04 - 08:41 AM Jacquie and Kendall are planning an affair? I thought they were gonna get married? okay - I'll get my hat... |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Dani Date: 08 Oct 04 - 08:46 AM Reminds me of an old (I think New Yorker) cartoon in which Hannibal is tapping his toe impatiently waiting for his wife to be ready. She is dressed to the 9's: feathed hat, pearls, heels, the whole bit. She says, "Dammit! I thought you said we were crossing the Alps with ELEGANCE!" Dani |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 04 - 12:15 PM YAY Dani! I found out you were going to the Getaway the same day I heard you might not. Would not be the same without you. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bill D Date: 08 Oct 04 - 05:06 PM note....the longish outlook weather forecast indicates a good chance for rain, at least on Saturday, so be prepared...temperature high 40s at night and high 60s during the day. Cooler than we'd like, but not unexpected. I drive this BIG van, and will have some extra blankets and such available, and perhaps those who are driving and have room could add an extra to offer those who are flying and might be short.... I am debating whether to bring a space heater for that back room, as the long thin one I had the last two years disappeared late Sunday night last year...*sigh*....we shall see. (It is nice to warm the hands before playing...) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 04 - 05:41 PM I can bring some extra comforters and pillows if they fit in Tinker's car. Towels too. |
