Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bobert Date: 08 Oct 04 - 05:45 PM I'm facilitating the Blues workshop on Saturday from 4 to 5 but there is also a plant and garden thing beginning at 4:30 and ending at 5:30 that I will runover to after my workshop. Fir the gardeners, I will be bringing some surprises!!! Yep, they have roots and will arrive in small plastic pots... Bobert |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ebbie Date: 08 Oct 04 - 06:11 PM "the longish outlook weather forecast indicates a good chance for rain, at least on Saturday, so be prepared...temperature high 40s at night and high 60s during the day." Bill D LOL When you warned us that it might be chilly at the Getaway, I was wondering if it might get down to freezing. In the Misty (not Frozen) North, our high temperatures for the last month have been in the upper 40s. The "high 60s" to us is SUMMERTIME. AlaskaMike, being nearly 600 air miles from Southeast Alaska, at the Getaway, will probably be in t-shirt and shorts. It's all in perspective. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 04 - 06:40 PM Bobert, Is that stuff legal????? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bobert Date: 08 Oct 04 - 07:05 PM Oh, sure, it's legal but... ...don't look unnner the seat of my Toyoter. Bobert |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bill D Date: 08 Oct 04 - 07:08 PM Ebbie...there have been a very few times in the past when the temp got down in the mid-30s, but mid-Oct is hard to predict here....we have had "durn chilly" one night, and sat in the sun in shirt-sleeves next day. Rain is not quite as common, but a different problem...just wanted as many as possible to have the prediction...*grin*.....(seems all that moisture currently in the Gulf of Mexico might favor us by next weekend..) |

Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: kendall Date: 08 Oct 04 - 07:42 PM I will be joining Sinsull in her Hank Williams workshop, and Jeri agreed to play fiddle on one of the pieces I plan to do. The doctor who is going to do the surgery says I should talk softly and stop driving my voice, so we will either have to get real close to each other, or if a small amp. was available, that would be great. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 08 Oct 04 - 07:53 PM Get very close? And risk the wrath of jacqui???? Who's got an amp? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 08 Oct 04 - 10:41 PM Well if anyone can run the sound system maybe we can give Kendall a mike, but the workshop would have to take place on the stage. :-) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 08 Oct 04 - 11:06 PM High tech, Rita. Does no one have one of those Mr Microphone thingies anymore? Or a boom box and a mic? MC Morse... |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Fortunato Date: 09 Oct 04 - 07:39 AM Rita, I can run the sound system if Mary wants to do the workshop on the stage and get Prof Kendall some amplification. Glad to help the old fart out. I was planning on singing Hank with them anyway. Can't let those Damn Yankees do all the Honky-Tonk. chance |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Dani Date: 09 Oct 04 - 09:47 AM I have one of those easy-breezy karaoke things I could bring if you like. Plug it in and go. I'd rather sit close, though... Dani |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: kendall Date: 09 Oct 04 - 03:57 PM I MUST not respond, I must not respond... All I need is a very little amplification because my voice is very weak at this point. I hate sound systems, but it's a large room, and if I can't be heard there's no point doing anything. What Dani suggested would work, I'm sure. I mean, ah, the mike thing. LOL |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ebbie Date: 09 Oct 04 - 04:16 PM Segue back to Sinsull's post re 'towels'- Are we to bring towels, soap, and other appurtenances? |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Bill D Date: 09 Oct 04 - 04:54 PM yep..it's best to have your own personal stuff unless you have made arrangements with somone local..(last year those of us who hosted trans-Atlantic travellers provided bedding & towels to keep the packing list shorter....would you like some added to the list? everyone has their preferences, and some have a travel kit THEY prefer... |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Fortunato Date: 09 Oct 04 - 06:04 PM OK Kendall, you'd rather DANI helped you with your volume than me, eh? Fancy that... |

Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Charlie Baum Date: 10 Oct 04 - 01:48 AM The weather link I gave above should automatically update as you check it later in the week. Those of you with divine connections can pray for warm weather, and the scientists among you should train the butterflies in Senegal (or wherever--Guam or Hawaii?) to move their wings properly to assure warmer weather in Maryland next weekend. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Micca Date: 10 Oct 04 - 05:53 AM 66 Degrees!!! wow!!! Summer weather!!! get out the t-shirts and the shorts!!! and bring sun tan oil!! |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: kendall Date: 10 Oct 04 - 06:07 AM Don't forget Micca, that's "F" not "C" LOL |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 10 Oct 04 - 10:04 AM 66°C would equal 151°F. It's a good temperature for nice, hot soup, but not live people. If you're cooking someone, you'd want an internal temperature of 165°F, 14° higher. Most food should be cooked to an internal temp of at least 145°F. Of course, the exterior temperature is usually higher, so 151° would be more of a very slow roasting temperature. 66°F=19°F and 45°F=7°C. (Thanks to the Temperature Converter thingie Jon Freeman created.) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Micca Date: 10 Oct 04 - 12:51 PM News for those interested in the Silent Auction I have a signed copy ( by Les, Herga Kitty and El Greko who sing on it) of Les Sullivans CD to include in the auction for more info Les's CD |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Fortunato Date: 10 Oct 04 - 03:28 PM I have just thrown the bones, made my JuJu, and the results are in. Friday will be warm, 65° with small chance of a shower 46° at night, so the Micca will have to wear some pjs. Saturday will somewhat cloudy but dry, brisk at 58° mid afternoon and 40°. Nothing good beer or cider won't stand up to. Sunday much the same and dry. All in all the JuJu forcast a cool and robust getaway. cheers, chance |

Oh, any closet cake decorators in the crowd??? PM me.... tink |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 11 Oct 04 - 02:44 PM Quoting myself, from above: "Anyway, they'll miss half, but if you slide the RF workshop down, I'll miss Elizabeth LaPrelle, and I'll complain about that." Consider yourself complained at! I know - there's no way to make everybody 100% happy. I'm sure I'll get other opportuninties to hear her. I just don't believe in making empty threats. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Pauline L Date: 11 Oct 04 - 03:07 PM Susan A-R and I are leading an instrumental harmony/jam session on Monday at 5 in the gym. We have selected a few tunes to start with: Lord Inchiquin, High Road to Linton, Red Red Rose, Red Haired Boy, Swallowtail Jig, and John Ryan's Polka. I'll bring hard copies on Friday. Most of these tunes are in the Fiddler's Fakebook, if you want to get a head start. Of course, all instrumentalists are invited to come and lead a tune or play along. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 11 Oct 04 - 03:40 PM Good point, Tinker! We shall indeed celebrate ALL the newlyweds! Cheers to all, Nancy (new Mother-in-Law) |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 11 Oct 04 - 05:25 PM Thanks, Rita. The changes help...but I still can't be in three places at once. Guess I will just have to force myself to stay up all night to catch everybody. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 11 Oct 04 - 08:30 PM Jeri, We hated to do it. But there's a possible, straightforward solution that we didn't see. How's this: If you can get all the key people to agree on it, we'll move Hank Williams to 10:00, move the Rick Fielding workshop to 11:00, and those who want to can get to Elizabeth's concert. I would have done it before, but didn't know if you, Kendall, and Mary would be up for a workshop at 10 a.m. How about it, Sinsull and Mick? And Kendall? Can I start Hank Williams at 10? (Mick could still sleep in if he likes...) Rita |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 11 Oct 04 - 08:39 PM 10AM is great! Move our time ASAP. SINS |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 11 Oct 04 - 08:48 PM It sounds good to me, Rita. I hardly ever miss breakfast, and there's usually too much bustling in the cabin to sleep very late anyway. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Susan A-R Date: 11 Oct 04 - 08:49 PM I think that Pauline and I are actually on for Saturday at 5. There's too much to Dooooooo! (and I'm so excited!!!!) |

Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Big Mick Date: 12 Oct 04 - 01:23 AM Just a damn minute here!! You people have to wait until I express my opinion on this thing before you go shoving me around. What the hell, Jeri, I am CO-leader of this thing. My opinion is HELL YES it's alright with me. I don't sleep much at Getaway anywho. Jeri sleeps in the next bed over and she snores like an old bear. heeheeheehee. Mick, who will be sleeping with one eye open. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Fortunato Date: 12 Oct 04 - 09:06 AM Mick, that Dale Carnegie course did you no damn good at all, eh? Listen up little grasshopper: 1) Never tell a woman she snores. 2) Never call a woman old (yes, you did). 3) Never refer to woman as any kind of animal. Repeat after me, "Yes, Jeri, that's a great idea, moving the workshop to 10:00am; I like singing early in the day." (Hee, hee, I'll get me hat...) chance |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: GUEST,MMario Date: 12 Oct 04 - 09:10 AM after telling Jeri she snores Mick BETTER sleep with one eye open... |

Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: SINSULL Date: 12 Oct 04 - 10:01 AM Curmudgeon is the only gentleman in this crowd. He states (very diplomatically) that we purr. SINS, who does not snore and barely purrs and will short sheet Dani's bed if she contradicts me. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Big Mick Date: 12 Oct 04 - 10:07 AM Huns, the lot of you. Gangin' up on a poor, defenseless, barefooted farm boy from Michigan. Hell, I get nervous around curb & gutter and traffic lights. All you city folks just don't act right, trying to take advantage of naieve folks like meself. And I will be sleeping with one eye open to guard against the felonius tendencies of Jeri, Dani, Janie, Annie, and the evil Sinsull (who I am sure doesn't snore, but I am not sure what that is she is doing). All I can tell you is that we had a whole herd of animals outside the door in the morning, all looking hungry. Just a couple of days now, friends. Mick |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Jeri Date: 12 Oct 04 - 12:36 PM Mick, I'm hurt. The workshop is a very serious thing, about a friend we all miss dearly. We want to remember Rick and the things he taught us with all the reverence called for, and that's what I'll be thinking of when I get up on Saturday morning. Many of you will now be feeling that Mick's comments were unnecessarily hurtful. Mick, on the other hand, has likely understood me completely and is probably not going to sleep at all. Hopefully, there will be songs, and there will be stories. There will be a few tears, but a lot of smiles and some belly laughs. My concept of the Rick workshop is that it should be a loose-structured one with people sharing whatever they'd like to relating to Rick. I hope, in the way good Getaway workshops often go and the way any gathering involving Fielding always went, this one will be heavy participation, and I'll do my best to encourage that. Mick, SINSULL's Hank workshop is at 10, we're at 11. Please save me a cot if you get there first. I am STILL working out what tune to play for Kendall! I've got new strings on the fiddle, although I might bring two of them, and the exploding bow has been fixed. Just have to put strings on the guitar. If I don't show up Friday night, something happened to my car. It's making funny noises that the mechanics say are 'normal'. |
Subject: RE: 2004 Getaway Program info From: Ferrara Date: 12 Oct 04 - 12:41 PM Here's a suggestions (A strong suggestion) to workshop leaders. Whether you are leading a straight sing-around or taking a more unstructured approach, at the very start of your workshop look around, see who's already there, and ask how many of them would like to sing during the workshop. Then you may want to say that if they haven't gotten to sing by about 5 or 10 minites from the end, please raise their hands & remind you. It's awfully frustrating for people to arrive early and never get to lead a song because the circle filled up with latecomers and never got to them. Thanks! (and thanks to Judy Cook, who provided an example of this at last year's Getaway.) Rita |
