Subject: Tune Req: Wee Road from Cushendall From: GUEST,Sasamack Date: 26 Aug 04 - 08:26 AM I'm hoping someone can help me with this: I sang 'the wee road from cushendall' years ago, but have forgotten the lyrics and tune for all bar the first verse. Here is all I can remember - if anyone has these, I would really appreciate it: There are grey roads and white roads Tarred roads and broken roads Dusty roads and shiny roads, bog roads and all But for all their charm and beauty I am weary now to wander The wee road, the mountain road that winds from Cushendall |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Wee Road from Cushendall From: GUEST,Anne Kelly Date: 25 Sep 05 - 05:58 AM I have just returned having spent ten days in Cushendall, I asked everyone about the wee road song and no one could remember it. I too learned it at school in Ireland. I can only remember a small part of the song and seek the full song. I remember I know the lie of Leinster road, Munster road and Connaght road, but always in my dreams I climb the dearest of them all, the wee road, the sunny road, the twisting wynding mountain road that wynds from Ballycastle to the sea at Cushendall. Anyone recognise the song? |
Subject: ADD: Wee Road from Cushendall From: GUEST,Richard Lonmon Date: 08 Aug 14 - 03:06 PM THE WEE ROAD FROM CUSHENDELL Words by Sydney Bell, Music by Eric H Thiman There are grey roads and white roads, Tarred roads and broken roads, Dusty roads and shiny roads, Bog roads and all. But for all their charm and beauty I am weary now to wander The wee road, the mountain road that winds from Cushendall. There are boreens and coast roads, Cart tracks and city roads, Lonely broad and narrow roads All basking in the sun. But no matter where you wander you'll never find a grander Than the wee road, that little road that winds across Glendun. There are country roads and trunk roads Treeless roads and shady roads Bye roads and high roads Private roads and free, But if you want a quiet road, a fairy road, an Irish road The wee road at cushendun is hazy near the sea. I know the lure of Munster roads, Leinster roads and Connaught roads But always in my dreams I climb the dearest of them all: That wee road, that little road, the twisting , winding mountain road That winds from Ballycastle to the sea at Cushendall. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Wee Road from Cushendall From: GUEST,henryp Date: 01 May 17 - 01:33 PM In the absence of the original tune, the words appear to fit THE RAMBLIN' ROVER by Andy M. Stewart of Silly Wizard. There's sober men and plenty and drunkards barely twenty There are men of over ninety that have never yet kissed a girl But give me a ramblin' rover, fae Orkney down to Dover We will roam the country over and together we'll face the world |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Wee Road from Cushendall From: GUEST Date: 02 Jun 23 - 10:15 AM This is a song that I've never known about before, and I also would like to hear a recording of it. However, I have a small problem with the title, I grew up not too far from the Glens in an area with a multitude of poor, narrow, winding roads, but I don't remember ever hearing a road described as 'wee.' That adjective is of course, applied to many things in the north of Ireland but a road... I'm not too sure. |
