Subject: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: MAG Date: 01 Sep 04 - 05:19 PM Having lived in Chicago for 17 years, I have a special fondness for this show. If you hunt around, you can find some syndicated stations which still webcast the 2 hour national edition, but... the 3 hour show (as well as all of WFMT) is now available by subscription, including the (sometimes slow in coming) archives which are up for a month. It may not be worth it to everybody, but if you are somebody (else) who really likes being able hear this show, check out the WFMT website for how to subscribe. My only interest in posting is to share information for those interested. |

Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: Burke Date: 01 Sep 04 - 06:29 PM $100 a year. I like the show, but not that much. |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 02 Sep 04 - 10:43 AM I first heard folk music listening to the Midnight Special in '59!! Thanks, Ray, Norm and the others at FMT! The New Years Eve shows especially are always great. There is a discount if you are a Fine Arts member and that also gets you into the some of the Folk Stage shows - so it's not too bad a deal for those in the area - and don't forget that WFMT is always in precarious straits. Also, I would like to support and thank Rich Warren for taking up where the MS founders left off. A lot of work goes into that show and his Folk Stage. You can hear some shows on a free trial -- I'm thinking of subscribing. Chris in Wheaton |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 02 Sep 04 - 11:00 AM $100 is a great deal. That is $1.92 per week - or .64 an hour! The cost of archiving shows is not cheap, I'm not sure how they can cover their costs at that price! I know Rich Warren and he deserves high praise. Midnight Special is an institution, and he has taken the show to new heights. His committment to folk music is a real inspiration to me. Shows like his have kept the flame alive. Thanks Rich!! |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: wysiwyg Date: 02 Sep 04 - 11:03 AM Chris, isn't it still on the radio weekly to hear for free? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 02 Sep 04 - 11:16 AM It is on the radio, but if you aren't in the Chicago area (or a station that syndicates it like WUMB in Mass.) or if you aren't home when the show broadcasts, having an archive version is a great thing! |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: wysiwyg Date: 02 Sep 04 - 11:29 AM Yes, but Chris is in Wheaton, should be able to hear it live. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 02 Sep 04 - 11:31 AM Unless he isn't home during the broadcast or would like to listen at a more convenient time. That is the beauty of archives! |

Subject: RE: WFMT Midnight Special on-line From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 03 Sep 04 - 09:56 AM I listened to the rebroadcast of the Gibson Camp concert - nice to hear. FM in Chicago plays a lot of tricks. FMT does not come in well in Wheaton. Also, having an archive would be great to listen to with the playlist!! Wish that FolkScene was archived. But great that there is so much folk music thru the net. See ya at the Fox Valley Folk Fest!! Rich will be doing a preview show on Sat. Chris in Wheaton |
