Subject: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:24 AM The Middle Bar Singers are undecided about giving Steve Heap a Engraved Tankard as a present, what do the other people who go to Sidmouth think.Especially after all the work that Steve did over the 20ish years of running Sidmouth under Mrs Casey's Music. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: English Jon Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:36 AM Yeah, he worked hard -whatever your personal views of steve (I reckon he's OK) Sidmouth would not have happened the way it has without his commitment. Jon |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Scooby Doo Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:45 AM I also believe Steve worked hard for the festival and deserves a gift from the whole festival goers not alone the MBS. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST,spooky Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:46 AM Your absolutely right English Jon,he was a good guy. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:49 AM I have nothing against Steve,i thought i start the thread and see what other people were thinking. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Leadfingers Date: 04 Sep 04 - 06:50 AM Whatever anyone might have to say against Mr Heap , IF he had not stepped into the breach a long time ago , there would probably not have been ANY Sidmouth Festival to worry about . I vote YES , give him the Tankard . |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: The Shambles Date: 04 Sep 04 - 08:43 AM Give him a tankard and buy him a pint. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST,"Y" Date: 04 Sep 04 - 08:44 AM I am sure your absolutely right "leadfingers",i know most of the money for the tankard is coming from the MBS would anyone else put some money in the kitty or will it be left for the MBS to sort out. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: The Shambles Date: 04 Sep 04 - 08:56 AM What sort of tankard is it to be then??? A diamond encrusted one? |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 04 - 09:01 AM The MBS has a kitty collected over the festival for next years festival they dont want to dig into that unless they have too.But they would like to buy him a good one with an engraving on it,what it will be i dont know. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST, A MBS Date: 04 Sep 04 - 12:11 PM It'll certainly be a nice surprise for him after reading this thread... This should be discussed in private and not on Mudcat..! |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 04 - 01:00 PM Get off your high horse i am an MBS too,so stop whimpering!!!!!!. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Folkiedave Date: 04 Sep 04 - 02:19 PM I think it would be a really good idea. The man deserves a gold tankard. Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 05 Sep 04 - 07:25 AM refresh for those who are coming back from Wareham |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Bob H Date: 05 Sep 04 - 11:48 AM I agree wholeheartedly that Steve's efforts deserve recognition. As to a tankard - anyone ever seen him with a drink in his hand? I seem to recall seeing him with half a shandy in the Dove one evening during the build up week about 10 years ago... Maybe there's a better gift? - but a tankard would be be approriate from the MBS and I'm sure he'd appreciate the sentiment. More generally, given the largely unseen work Steve does outside Sidmouth, especially as secretary to the AFO, I'd think an MBE might be approriate. I'm sure he's contributed as much to folk music and dance as Messers Carthy and Thomas (and for much less thanks). Bob |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST,Tony Day Date: 05 Sep 04 - 12:29 PM How the MBS show their appreciation to their friend and fellow Middle Bar Singer Steve Heap has got bugger all to do with mudcat. I do, however, support those who suggest that the wider folk world should say thanks in a rather more substantial way. Tony |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST Date: 05 Sep 04 - 12:55 PM What about if the wider "world" would like to contribute to your fund,is it possible to contact someone so we can give our donations. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: fiddler Date: 05 Sep 04 - 01:42 PM TONY et al - Do it - Middle bar are often seen as the renegades at the festival lets go out on a limb again and as we often do do something fine and noble! - Other than singing with Gusto - I agree not a mudcat topic but as it is here it has my vote and lets all do it! Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: GUEST,Happy Folkie Date: 06 Sep 04 - 07:30 AM I agree with Fiddler,we should all contribute. |
Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: MarkAustin Date: 06 Sep 04 - 08:36 AM I agree with Tony. This matter is nobodies business but the Middle Bar, and certainly not a matter to be discussed in a public forum, where the potential recipient is know to be active. If others want to do somoething, do it. By the way, thanks for spoiling the surprise GUEST. Mark |

Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Cllr Date: 06 Sep 04 - 09:24 AM I agree with Tony's comments and MarkAustin, and further to that, this thread can only be seen as mischievious at best. Last comment from guest is not only disagreeable it also ignores the valid point that Mark made. Cllr |

Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: alanww Date: 06 Sep 04 - 09:55 AM As a regular Mudcatter & Middle Bar Singer, it pains me that this subject is being discussed in this way. By all means have a general discussion on the Mudcat about whether Steve Heap did a good job or not or whether he should be presented with a mark of respect for his achievements but NOT what Mudcatters think about the MBSs doing so! I do not believe any new threads should should be allowed to be introduced by anonymous GUESTs. If JoeClone does not feel able to kill it, please just let this thread die! "I can laugh, drink and sing ..." Alan PS for fiddler: MBSs have our own yahoo group. |

Subject: RE: Should MBS give Steve Heap a present From: Andy Jackson Date: 06 Sep 04 - 07:47 PM Well let's hope Steve is too busy to read this thread {Hi Steve}. A bit like This is your life really tho' the surprise is in being thought worthy in the first place. Lets not get bogged down in all the ins and outs and point scoring. Simple fact is THE MIDDLE BAR SINGERS wanted to present Steve with a memento. We have the funds and it seems generally agreed amongs MBSers that we should go ahead. If anyone else wants to do a similar thing then that is up to them. As for seperate, extra donations for a tankard, that denies the established principle of the Middle Bar Kitty. It is a rolling sum topped up every year and has as open ended life span both backwards and forwards. It is designed for the doing of good works on behalf of all who have played any part at any time in the Middle Bar, as decided by "The Bench": in my opinion as resident EEjit on the Bench, The Steve Tankard is one such "good work" let's just on with it and return to discussions in the privacy of the MBS group.
