1. what is your age range? 50

2. gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? Yes. :) I like dark greens and blues, deep reds, and I'm beginning to be fond of pale yellow.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? I am adding to my Dad's collection of folk music books, in particular old and out of print books that will strengthen the collection. English, Irish, Scottish, and American Ballads. Anyone want to send me the complete Child set?

5. what books have you really been wanting? None in particular--I own more books than I can ever read in several lifetimes.

6. what type of music do you like? Traditional, older folk music (as mentioned in the book question). Classical music. A variety of other stuff, pretty eclectic.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? I'd love to receive Mudcatter CDs!

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? None I can think of offhand. I buy DVDs mostly now, but I still record a lot on VCR tape.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Medium if it is pre-shrunk, Large if it is 100% cotton.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Yes, but I already have too many of most of the things I collect!

11. what are some of your other hobbies? Photography, cooking, gardening, sewing, remodelling stuff around the house.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Neither. We have some sensitivity to metals here, so I'm careful with jewelry. The real silver and gold that I prefer are probably beyond the costs suggested for this gift exchange. However, I really like beautiful beads, natural stones or crystals, leather work, knotwork, etc. So a necklace or bracelet made of non-metal materials would be very nice.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. This gift exchange becomes a family event, and we enjoy thinking up something that is unique for our Santee just as we enjoy all parts of the gift from our Secret Santa. Little stuff that marks the origin of the sender are fun--wadded newspaper padding is usually flattened and read, stamps are examined, little tidbits tucked in with the package are always a lot of fun. If you're mailing from across an ocean, send little things that give us a flavor of your world. If you're mailing from here in North America, send us a clue as to what is going on in your community and your family.

I am old enough to rember skiffle.I dont wear jewellery, thought I could always learn. I always love hearing recordings of fellow Mudcatters. I love little things special to where you live. Like Stilly River Sage, I get a great deal of pleasure out of reading bits of local newspapers that things get wrapped in. I like food. I like drink. Basically, I like anything. Except pickled walnuts. And bodhrans.

5. what books have you really been wanting? none

6. what type of music do you like? here's what I don't like: country, pop, hip-hop. A personal CD or one of a friend will be appreciated. I particularly look for Celtic/Irish/Scots music as that's what I mostly perform.

I open the gifts on the night of the Winter Solstice (Yule) in front of my friends - they've really liked what I've got before, and are looking forward to seeing what I get this year.

P.S. to my hint list:

I have no allergies. A CD of your own or from your area would be great. A Mudcat CD would be excellent.

Thanks

Here is the Hint list from previous years:

1. what is your age range?
52

2. gender?
female

3. Do you have a favorite color?
red, black, fucshia,

4. favorite authors/ type of book?
very little space for any more books, unfortunately

5. what books have you really been wanting?
paperback versions of some out-of-print Andre Norton fantasies/science fiction, tho I haven't really started looking for them yet.

6. what type of music do you like?
traditional songs - Oz, British, North American - and modern songs in similar vein, shanties, unaccompanied singing, nostalgic music hall stuff,

7. what cds have you really been wanting?
I only have 16 Mudcatter CDs, not nearly enough.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting?
nuffin' to watch 'em on (& no interest in movies or TV, either)

9. what is your t-shirt size?
I already have 2, she says politely - a lovely red Mudcat T-shirt & the equally gorgeous Roll'n'Go shirt that I wear as overshirts at festivals. I don't need any more cos I'm not a t-shirt person.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
lotsa' stuff - bears (tho I'm trying to wean myself off this addiction, can't manage cold turkey), old embroideries & similar, small Japanese paper items & other stuff, Japanese fabric scraps, small christmas decorations,

11. what are some of your other hobbies?
embroidery, crafts, knitting, making cards, collecting patterns/instructions & making plans to create crafty things,

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
yes, please - tho I also like brass/bronze metal stuff - including small & delicate earrings (my favourite pair came from a bargain shop, cost $3 & look like a million dollars). I don't like the current crop of cheap jewellery - white metal & bold stones (oops "plastics")

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like
I don't have a sweet tooth - I never eat chocolates, cakes, sweet stuff, & I only drink water, so everyone else's choice of choccies or wine is not for me.

bye for now

The inevitable question is when do you traditioally open presents?

My family always opened them on Christmas Eve. I grew up in an Athiest family who chose to leave on a short vacation first thing Xmas morn - and yes, I know, what's a bunch of Athiests doing celebrating Xmas? Well, first of all, we focused on the Peace on Earth part and my parents realized it was a lot easier to have there child get presents like everyone else so kids wouldn't give me a hard time at school.

Today, since I'm a Pagan UU I open most presents on Yule/Winter Solstice typically the 21st.

As kids, we got to open one present, usually a fun one on Christmas Eve, then the rest on Christmas morning. My family were agnostic, but we still love the festive occasions. :) any excuse to celebrate. :) It's fun knowing folks from all over the world; you get to observe some interesting holidays. ;)

Oh I do hope I get Bearded Bruce as a Santee. I've been wondering what to do with the old glacier in the back paddock.

Anyway for myself I'm all for getting a surprise present. I'm a young, slim, attractive lady on the inside, but the body I live in is nearly 60, much bigger than it should be, and showing signs of wear. Not much help really as hints go! Surprise me. And play the hint-dropping game about your identity the way Snuffy did last year. That was great fun. Joy

We used to get one 'from the pets' which we opened on Christmas Eve. It was always modelling clay, which kept us quiet and amused until it was bed time. It's a tradition I've continued with Limpit, but it tends to be a bit more techincal than Plasticine these days!

I'm a male, 54 yo, but I'll be 55 by Christmas.

I collect cookbooks, the kind with regional recipes from wherever it is you live, especially the kind put out by organizations (schools, Fire depts.), for fund raising purposes.

Also, Mudcatter CD's,(especially Country music in any form), Mudcatter crafts, mudcatter-authored books (the kind that can be read for pleasure), ocarinas in unusual shapes, antique glass bottles, and old postcards, especially the kind that say "greetings from" and then the name of the place in big letters.
also, any books about wherever it is you live - local history or picture books. (If you are a coastal dweller, I like lighthouses.)

When she says she "left most belongings in Colorado" she means it, folks!:-)

Okay, here's my go at it:

1. what is your age range? barely over 50

2. gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? black, green, purple

4. favorite authors/ type of book? mysteries, adventure, music/folk history, some sci-fi/fantasy, esp Charles de Lint, ELizabeth Scarborough and one I REALLY want by Margaret Atwood: Oryx and Crake

5. what books have you really been wanting? See above, plus Drinkers of the Wind and/or People of the Black Tents both by Carl Raswan; Mapp & Lucia by E. F. Benson; and/or, Another Place at the Table by Mrs. Harrison(?), The Lovely Bones Alice Sebold; Daughter of a Samurai by Edsu Inagaki; and anything by Barry Hughart, except Bridge of Birds as I've read it:-).

6. what type of music do you like? Almost anything, but prefer world/ethnic/folk from everywhere, esp. somewhere unusual and mostly instrumental

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Oh, Boy! Everything you hear on Hober Radio!**bg** First though would be "Stories the Crow Told Me;" Anything by "Big Blow and the Bushwhackers;" Diga Rythm's "Welcome to Our World;" Jean-Paul Guimond's "Fol Quebec;" ANYTHING by Leo Kottke or Tom Waits; Mill Run Dulcimer Band's "Give me just a little more time;"

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? none, thanks, don't buy movies for at home:-)

9. what is your t-shirt size? I am too picky about how they fit, BUT I don't have a Mudcat T and would love one in the biggest, loosest size they have

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Not anymore...too much clutter, except music, of course:-)

11. what are some of your other hobbies? reading, beading, jewellery design, photography

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? neither, I am just too picky, plus just don't wear much anymore

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

Allergies to scents, so no perfumes, candles, or incense; also to some foodstuffs, i.e. preservatives, artificial colourings and flavours

I love little things, boxes, trinkets, etc. esp. regional and also cards, photos, or postcards and stamps an coins. WOuld love to have a few pennies or whatever they were called, depending on your country, before they all went Euro, IF my Santa is cross the pond.:-)

Thanks!

kat

OK, I guess it's my turn:
1. what is your age range?
Old enough to know better, etc.

2. gender?
female!

3. Do you have a favorite color?
Not really, but I lean towards jewel tones- garnet, sapphire, emerald...

4. favorite authors/ type of book?
"English cozy" mysterys (I loved the last 2 PDJames)
Well-written books (such as essays)on astronomy, history, and of course, folk music!

5. what books have you really been wanting?
Oh, I dunno. I'm not much of a book buyer, since we have a good library system.

6. what type of music do you like?
English/Irish/Scottish of all kinds, Appalachian and southern harmony, whatever my SS has recorded, etc.! NOT heavy metal, nor anything on American popular radio these days.

7. what cds have you really been wanting?
Surprise me.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?
None- I'm not much of a movie watcher, although I like the old classics (I'm such a wuss!)

9. what is your t-shirt size?
Don't bother- I seldom wear one!

10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
I have a few figurines playing concertina- the tackier the better!

11. what are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, knitting (I love natural fibers!)

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Don't bother- I have what I like to wear!

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like
I would rather my SS surprise me with regional treats and other items than try to match my preferences- that's part of the fun!

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.
I tend to be sensitive to some walnuts, but that's my only food restriction!

Well I just got the word from the post office. If we want to send food from Australia to the US we have to put a special number on the package. To find the number you visit the American FDA site. Haven't tried it myself but sounds a bit complicated. If the number isn't on the package it will be returned to sender or destroyed. (Eaten?). It looks like Vegemite and a stuffed Koala might be OK. Before I start, the most important part for me of the total Secret Santa experience is getting to know a bit about my Secret Santa so my favourite things are the ones which come from their local area, or which are chosen from their personal preferences, e.g. the music or books they love.

1. what is your age range? 49

2. gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? This is the easiest question on the list: Purple & all shades of it, including magenta, violet, indigo etc and especially combinations of these

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Difficult to say - I love Margaret Atwood's books but have most of them. I have a whole Dewey Decimal system worth of books in my collection so I guess my book preferences are as wide a range as my music preferences - therefore you would have a wide choice on books (not very helpful I know) Your own interests or local area would be wonderful.

5. what books have you really been wanting? Secondhand is good. Most of my collection is secondhand - but none that I can think of

6. what type of music do you like? Everything! I used to say "everything but Country & Western and Opera" but that limitation doesn't even apply any more so I really want to find out what my Secret Santa likes

7. what cds have you really been wanting?

Nothing specific.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting?

Secondhand is good. DVD's are difficult anyway because it has to be playable in Oz, although we may be able to work around it. Pal is the Oz VHS format but I can play NTSC videos.

I just remembered - I would really love a copy on video or DVD of the Ethel Merman classic Call Me Madam. It has been re-released I think. It may even be on the secondhand lists now.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Medium - large

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Kaleidoscopes

11. what are some of your other hobbies?
working, looking for work, getting depressed through lack of work, trying to live without income - oh, sorry - that was the last few years. Last week I got into a temp job with possible future prospects so job hunting may not be my main waking-hours preoccupation any more.

Other hobbies: pastel drawing - haven't done any for a long time, and playing Celtic harp, trying to learn piano, and wanting to learn more music theory, especially harmonies, accompaniment, chords, chord progressions etc

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? probably silver, with a Celtic flavour

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

Anything which shows my Secret Santa's preferences and local area would be perfect.

Helen

1. what is your age range?
47 3/4 - 48

2. gender?
All boy

3. Do you have a favorite color?
Dark Blue

4. favorite authors/ type of book?
Really depends on the mood, popular novels mostly. Tend to pick up anything to do with the Industrial revolution, I find the ingenuity of the early great Engineers fascinating

5. what books have you really been wanting?
Nothing specific on my list, I tend to impulse buy at airports.

6. what type of music do you like?
Most things but not jazz or rap. Specifically like acoustic folk, kept nice and simple -no annoying overproductions, one voice, one guitar type of thing.

7. what cds have you really been wanting?
I've been trying to do more unaccompanied singing this year and am always looking for new material to learn so anything of that ilk with good chorus songs. I Bought an ealy Watersons LP on ebay recently so something similar would be ideal.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? none particularly

9. what is your t-shirt size? medium to large (large for safety). Darks only.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
Ornamental elephants, I've got wooden, porcelain, silver, glass. Smaller and more 'unique' the better.

11. what are some of your other hobbies?
Anything to do with Rugby (Union), (Teams: London Irish, Ireland, Felixstowe FRUFC), Camping/caravaning (festivals only) but I'm a sucker for gadgets and Gizmos (e.g. luminous, rechargeable, self extracting tent pegs), play guitar -reasonable, bouzouki- learning, melodeon - badly and strictly restricted to home use only. Most expensive hobby is raising two children but don't need any more thanks Santa.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Not a jewelry type person.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.

I milaid my pint tankard at Sidmouth this year so need to replace it before the Festival season starts next year. Looking for one with a built-in directional homing beacon.

Ho Ho Ho and Merry(almost)Halloween!
I discover that I am another year older than last year, but that keeps me in the range of a 46 year young woman. I still haven't completed my prime years but working on them.
Yes, I like colors. Colors are good.
I am still wanting a DW Ditty CD, and tried in the auction but never got back to it on time. I would like the latest Steeley Dan CD or for that matter the earliest because I don't have any Steeley Dan CD's and I have really been liking those guys lately.
I am a blues woman, but play a funky kind of contemporary folk and blues style.
Collecting is a hobby, or the other way around. I collect antique kitchen utensils and other old kitchen junk. Antique instruments, I like strange things, weird is good.
I like little musical toys for gatherings. I always have the bag of toys.
And I enjoy surprises. Last year was wonderful when I recieved RangerSteve's very own kick-butt cassette recording, an excellent CD of Cephis and Wiggins, A beautiful book of New Jersey, an old beater and a candle meant to rectify my sins and purify my ways!(Don't think it worked though)

Well - that's a bit weird. My message above only half appeared. I had put in a link to the 2002 details. Oh well - here they are, cut-and-pasted:

1. what is your age range? I'm about to hit the big Five Oh! (That was in 2002 so I'm about to hit the big 5-2 now.)

2. gender? full blooded female

3. Do you have a favorite color? ummm ... sort of a sea-green blue. I'm told that I'm a 'Winter' which means blues, black, most reds, real green but NOT pastels, oranges, browns, mossy greens etc.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? I love the more 'idiots guide' type of ethnomusicology books. I've recently read Sandy Ives' "Drive Dull Care Away" and Bill Malone's "Singing Cowboys and Musical Mountaineers" ... so that kind of stuff. Also cook books - I think I have every cookie and bread recipe known to mankind, but happy to be proved wrong!

5. what books have you really been wanting? Nothing specific, but stuff like in Q4 is always appreciated.

6. what type of music do you like? traditional folk, archival recordings - would certainly give house room to anything by a Mudcatter.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? I tend to buy them as I desire them! Wouldn't mind hearing some of our Mudcatters' work.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? Can't think of any - my machine can play both PAL and NTSC though.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Mega ... but I don't wear T-shirts except in bed.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? cook books, utensils, hymn books, folk song books, dust, antique textiles/clothes

11. what are some of your other hobbies? potter at various crafts including embroidery and crochet; garden a bit; play a number of instruments incredibly badly (in the privacy of my own home only!)

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? silver, but don't wear rings or bracelets ... or anything pierced at waist level or farther south

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

I'd certainly appreciate something that reflected the Santa as much as the Santee - something local to Santa perhaps? Or even handmade?

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.
Some smelly things (perfumes, powders, etc) don't agree with me so best avoided. I also tend to get a LOT of calendars at Christmas for some reason.

And as I then added for 2004 - I would have no objections to a 'previously owned' gift. Like ... if you had a book that you've read and enjoyed but don't need to keep, pass it on. (As long as I'm free to do the same!)

Can't wait to get my Santeeeeeee!

sian

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Generally don't wear jewelry, but when I do, I think silver looks better on me.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. I am an unrepentant chocoholic. I don't use candles or anything else with an open flame. I am a Polytheist Neo-Pagan, and a Born-Again Spiritual Agnostic. I live alone except for the company of two mostly-black cats. I have extra soft spots in my heart for spiders, horses, dandelions, toads and frogs, and rabbits. I talk to trees. I love to laugh. Some would say I watch too much TV... sometimes, I think gravity is my nemesis. I think that just about covers it.

I am very new at all this, but here goes:

1. what is your age range?    Over 21 - under 99

2. gender?    Male

3. Do you have a favorite color?

Yes and it is not black, because I understand that black is not actually a color, but the absence of any color.

4. favorite authors/ type of book?

I rather fancy that all of my published works are really, really wonderful and would make a perfect gift for any other secret santa to send, but not mine, because I already have a complete set of them.

5. what books have you really been wanting?   Not stamp albums.

6. what type of music do you like?    Not Vera Lynn

7. what cds have you really been wanting?

4.5% or better, maturing in 2010 or later, are my preferred certificates of deposit, but I am not that fussy.

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?

I don't have a vhs player any more.    I once had a copy of "Sexy Susan Sins Again Part 3" which was really wonderful, but I think it has been out of print for the last 15 years or so.

9. what is your t-shirt size?

    Comfy, but not too big.

10. do you collect anything? if so, what?

Collecting strange looks from my neighbors seems to be the "in" thing for me nowadays.    And I also have a nice little box to keep my falling hair in. (Us BaldEagles are NOT noted for having full heads of hair, I can tell you).

11. what are some of your other hobbies?

Flying an airplane.   Drinking red wine.   Making fun of Martin Gibson and Shambles.   Pretending to be James Bond.   Not having any allergies.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?

er ....er .... what is gold-tone?    what is silver-tone?    (Some sort of musical thingy-wotsits?   My wife tells me that I am tone deaf, so I suppose it really doesn't matter.)

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like

I feel that people should try to be nice to one another.   I feel that our future lies in the hands of our children, which is both awe-inspiring and a littel scarey.    I feel that people should vote with their heads, while embracing their political opponents with their hearts.    (Is that enough for now? - please do let me know)

Well - there you are.   I am very new at all of this, so any advice on how I can make my advice more precise would be great.

Just so there is no deception, Bald Eagle is actually a 35-year-old African American spinster. She is very interested in samples of soils and grasses from all corners of the globe, reads Alexandre Dumas in the orignal for fun, collects exotic goldsfish and early-20th century slide rules. She is about 6'2" tall, weighs about 135, and has a black belt in Akido. Drives a Ford Expedition with elevated shocks.

I could not stand by and let this facade go un-exposed.

Like Amos, I can't let this charade go on.

"Amos" is actually a 77-year old cloistered nun, living a convent in the remote back country of the Hebrides. On the increasingly rare occasions when she actually leaves the convent, she drives a wooden-wheeled donkey cart. She sings basso profundo in the convent's "Swing Choir."

I looked at all those questions and decided that most of them were irrelevant - favourite colours etc, so I have provided some answers to help and and all future Secret Santas, listed in more or less, but not necessarily, descending order of preference. Just go down the list till you reach a point at which you are comfortable, and remember, it's not the value of the gift, but the thought that counts. Of course, monetary value to a degree will offset rudeness and ill feeling, so you can insult me as much as you want, provided it is in balance...

Gold Bullion bars. For ease of accounting, please supply in complete dump truck loads - if you are not a Bruce Willis Fan, I expect this one will go completely over your head...

Ditto, Silver bullion...

Jewellery, Gold (with stone settings if desired) of sufficient value that merits not melting it down. For ease of accounting please supply in complete container loads ...

Ditto, Silver...

Jewellery, Gold (with stone settings if desired) of sufficiently lesser value that merits melting it down. For ease of accounting please supply in complete container loads ...

Ditto Silver...

Precious Stones. For ease of accounting please supply in complete pallet loads ...

Ditto, Semiprecious Stones...

Negotiable Bearer Bonds. For ease of accounting please supply in complete pallet loads ...

Music, your personal CDs - single copies...

Music, your personal CDs - multiple copies...

Non-Australian food or sweets that will definitely be unavailable in Australia - be careful though as some things such as meats etc, will definitely be seized by Customs. No 'diet stuff' though as I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, and yes I CAN taste most of them, apart from some of them giving me the runs etc.

Sheet Music (I can read full orchestral/band scores - no wuckers mate!), or books new or secondhand, almost any topic. I don't have 'rise up singing'... but anything old that you pick up secondhand will be appreciated. My tastes are eclectic and wide ranging, so those weird and wonderful old books from the turn of the century (I often collect them just for the tunes therein) that show you how to learn any instrument, I also like many old Oak (Music) Publications, or attempt to explain the theory of flight in the 1920's, or First Aid in WWI, or 'etiquette for young maids' etc, or anything that you think "Who the hell would want this?"... I am a 'Renaissance Man', and interested in things technical as well as artistic. Some thing like a programming manual for a Univac, or a magnetic memory core plane, for instance... I play anything keyboard (piano, harpsichord, pipe & reed organs, piano accordions), whistles, Symphonie (hurdiegurdy), hammered dulcimer, appalachian dulcimer, autoharp, misc percussion, but also I have some old 'folk music for guitar/banjo/etc' books. I am concentrating on my collecting these days in the music field, but that is not essential - if you see something that screams 'Weird Shit Man'...'

I like a brightish yellow kitchen, but pale blue or pale green or a plaeish yellow works well for most other rooms in the house for me.

T-shirt size - I need XL 110cm chest, but prefer usually for 'special' t-shirts to be XXL, XXXL or larger, as I often prefer to use them for night shirts.

Dear Santa

Thank you for all the presents you gave me last year. This year I'm sending my Secret Santa a few ideas:

1. what is your age range?
As old as my tongue, and a bit older than my teeth! (Alright then - lateish forties)

2. gender?
Male - very definitely, and very red blooded!

3. Do you have a favorite color?
Deep reds, plum and particularly burgundy. Except on trains, when it has to be chocolate and cream!

4. favorite authors/ type of book?
Fiction - Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Patrick O'Brian (good humorous science fantasy or early 19th Century naval)
Non-fiction - history - particularly mid eighteenth century onwards. British Railway history

5. what books have you really been wanting?
Wee Free Men, Hat Full Of Sky, Monstrous Regiment - all by Terry Pratchett (paperback editions, to match the collection…); Patrick O'Brian Aubrey/Maturin novels other than Master and Commander, Post Captain, The Thirteen Gun Salute, and Blue At The Mizzen

6. what type of music do you like?
Most - but particularly Baroque and traditional. The traditional music of my Santa's home area would be reeeeeeally cool.

7. what cds have you really been wanting?
Too many to think about!

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wnting?
Ealing Comedies. I have a particular yearning for Passport to Pimlico, but that's only because I used to work for a company with a head office just over Vauxhall Bridge Road from Pimlico…

9. what is your t-shirt size?
Generally XL

10. do you collect anything? if so, what?
Too many things! Mandolins, music, William Brittains Coldstream Guards Bandsmen

11. what are some of your other hobbies?
Railway modelling (british outline "N" and "O" gauge; gardening; computing - but I do that for a living as well; history - see books above, and be prepared to be bored to death about my great grandfather if you ever meet me!

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
My favourite piece of jewellery is my fuchsia ear rings. No - let me explain (please!) - I bought them for a drag night at a folk festival (I had to buy them as a pair, despite having only one ear pierced). I gave them to my wife afterwards! I normally wear little jewellery - watch and wedding ring, and sometimes one plain gold ear ring.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like
I'm married with two kids!

Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.
I get hay fever, and I can't stand things that skitter about quickly.

Love from el_punkoid_nouveau

Dear Lead Lad,

If you do not provide horrible hints or suggestive suggestions, I certainly cannot provide gorgeous gifties that you would entirely enjoy.

Old Pere Noel did his level best last Yuletide to supply the Irish setter, the latex thong bikini bottom, the (shudder!) Budweiser and the muskoxen you requested "to help make Christmas bright," indeed he did. But you were such a naughty, naughty boy! Oh my, yes! Why, you made old Kris Kringle blush scarlet when he read what you did with that haggis and we didn't need heat heare at the North Pole for a month.

Since your behaviour has shown a slight improvement this year you will be getting a gift. Not a Jaguar or the gate keys to the Llanfwddych School For Wayward Girls, mind you, but a little something. The larger gifts await much improved conduct.

Now look, Joybell, if you are not going to give some proper hints about what sort of present your SS (namely me) should send to you, then Big Lou and the Elves with the Baseball Bats may have to call around for a little chat.

And that could ruin the spirit of Christmas, couldn't it?

So - cough up with the hints, or else no more Mr Nice Guy ....

Ah Mrs. Duck, your Santa thanks you. It is horribly cold here at the North Pole, and now I can burn the lumps of coal and bundle of birches I had planned to send you and thus be a bit less cold.

Your wish list is so modest, I should try to fill it to a T. But as this Northern clime does not support the growing of cocoa beans, and oils might freeze, I cannot promise anything.

Red is good; my colour too!

1. what is your age range? I'm somewhere between 45 and 47!

2. gender? Male

3. Do you have a favorite color? Not Really

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Prefer Comedies

5. what books have you really been wanting? Nothing I'm dying for but I think an excellent SS gift would be one of those pictoral books that "tell the story" of the area my secret santa lives.

6. what type of music do you like? If my SS happens to perform, some of HIS/HER music would be awesome!

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Nothing in particular

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? Don't collect movies

9. what is your t-shirt size? XXL

10. do you collect anything? not really

11. what are some of your other hobbies? I play the guitar and drums in our Church's Contemporary Praise Band!

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Gold? For $20-ish? Probably not!

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like   (Copied from last year's!) I would like it if the gift I got told me a little bit about the person that sent it. That doesn't mean it has to be home made, but I like it to say a little something about him/her or about where they live (see the book section above). So, whatever Santa decides to send, I'd like it to be something that perhaps they themselves would have liked that they bought, made, stole and decided to share with me.

So I managed to find out a little bit about you from photos and your previous posts, but all that lacks the personal touch somewhat. What I'd like is a bit of feedback - hints, interaction ya know - that sort of thing. I wanna play the game! Otherwise, what's the point? Santa has some things that would probably interest you, but he is feeling rather underwhelmed by the silence at the moment.

Hey, if anyone out there knows Chanteyranger, could they give him a bit of a shove for me?

Ooooh, howl&whimper! I'm so sorry, my deardear Secret Santa! I'm a bad fox, working on winning the title of World's Worst Correspondant. (snuffle&whine)

Mine is pretty much the same as it was when I first posted to Secret Santa Hints on 17 Oct '01. Here are the changes:
1) I'm 55 now, but don't let that limit you.
7) I've gotten the Fiddler Beers album, likewise the Pat &
Victoria Garvey album. Hey, if a 'Catter chooses it, it's bound to
be something I'll like.
8) I don't need a video of O Brother Where Art Thou anymore, but I'm
still looking for Macumba Love. As I say, if a 'Catter chooses it,
I bet I'll like it.

As before, used stuff is good, unless it's chocolate. I'd rather be the first in line on that. Don't beat yourself up on this project. Have fun.

Edmund says I am to be ashamed of myself for putting this off ...

1. what is your age range? I'm 50
2. gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? Dark green; purple; the kind of blue that blue jeans are.

4. favorite authors / type of book? Complicated serious detective stories like those by Ian Rankin, Minette Walters and Val McDiarmid (unfortunately I have already read their entire oeuvres, alas!) I also like Terry Pratchett, but have also read all of him.

5. what books have you really been wanting? Volume III of Simon Schama's History of Britain and the first book in an exciting new detective series that I have never heard of.

6. what type of music do you like? Old Blind Dogs, the Buena Vista Social Club, Old Crow Medicine Show, Doc Watson and anything with a really good guitar.

7. what cds have you really been wanting? surprise me

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? No thanks -- I find movies don't repeat well

9. what is your t-shirt size? XL (I like them big and floppy)

10. do you collect anything? No. No! Noooo! (Except books and CDs, but they don't count as "collecting", do they? They're, um, essential furnishings.)

11. what are some of your other hobbies? playing guitar, wrestling with the mandolin, writing, cookery, following Edmund around battle-field sites

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Gold, but don't buy me jewellery because I can't wear the fake stuff and the real is too expensive.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like:

I'm not big on cuteness so, if geese in sunbonnets is your bag, pick something you wouldn't choose for yourself. Also, second-hand is good.

Dear Secret Santa,

I shall just be really pleased to get anything, but as I know this is not helpful here are my details/hints!

1. what is your age range? 38 (39 in January 2005)

2. gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? Anything autumnal

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Terry Pratchett (Cllr buys me the new one every Christmas) and other escapist type fantasy

5. what books have you really been wanting? Something about icebreakers or fun games for team meetings. Also I've only just discovered the LE Modesitt books about Recluce, and I only have the first in the series, plus the one that tells how Justen became a grey wizard.

6. what type of music do you like? Bouncy folk music and jazz

7. what cds have you really been wanting? Tapes would be nicer than CD's as I only have a tape player in my car, and don't currently have anything nice to play on it! It would be really special to have something recorded by my Secret Santa, although I guess then the secret might be out?

8. What movies (vhs is in the price range) have you been wanting? None, thank you.

9. what is your t-shirt size? Large

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Champagne (or Cava) ;-) although I don't so much collect it as drink it, preferably with good friends.    To be honest I don't really collect anything, except extra weight as I get older - hmmm, I wonder if that's connected with the champagne drinking?? no - surely not!

11. what are some of your other hobbies? Looking after Cllr seems to take up a lot of my time, but I do love it (and him)! In my free time I'm interested in NLP, creativity and my toddler size nieces.

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Gold tone, but I also love jewellery incorporating beads, wood etc. Again, most of the things I really love would fit into the autumn palette of colours.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your secret santa know what you would like. I'm not good with artificial scents, but I do love natural aroma oils. I also love having candles burning around the house. Most of all I like nice surprises!

Hope this helps Santa, and possibly also Cllr if he's looking for extra inspiration.

Love & hugs,
Champagne Carol

You'd think the post office would have this at the top of their home page, but they don't. I had to hunt for the page that tells you when to mail your packages in the U.S. if you want it to arrive in another country in time for the holidays.

This link is for international mail from the U.S.
Anyone else out there have links for their own postal service, as an aid to Santas in your neck of the woods?

He's been too quiet, and we have NO idea what it is his little heart desires. Just have him check in on this or the other Santy thread so poor ole Santy has some clue. Otherwise he's likely to get a wool scarf from our large inventory (sure to be VERY useful in Honolulu) or maybe one of the extremely attractive neckties that were returned to the elves last Christmas, or perhaps a pair of ice skates, or.....

Champagne Carole states:

>>>Also I've only just discovered the LE Modesitt books about Recluce<<<

How bizarre. I know him. Not well, mind you..just to say hello in a Green Room or so but yeah, I know him. Nice fellow. Harmless enough. Only read one or two of his books, the crunchier science kind. Met him when I was working for...Isaac Asmimov.

How's that for a hint from left field?
