Anyone see it tonight? Very damning expose concerning the 9-11 Commission Report, and underscoring the many warnings our government had before this happened, but did nothing to stop it.

Turns out Dick Cheney ordered two planes shot down (any old planes apparently, as NEADS had no idea what planes they were looking for since radar signals had been shut down) before finding out the fourth plane had already crash landed in Pennsylvania.

I would love to smash Condoleezza Rice's smirking face.

How do any of these people still have their jobs?

Sorry but I am in a sad angry state after watching that, even having made myself a nice dinner of pasta prima vera.

I should clarify the Cheney statement--apparently when the VP (from his underground bunker) was attempting to give instructions on what to do, as Donald Rumsfeld had his head up his ass at the time, and the Commander in Chief was apparently not in the mood to give orders that day, he (Dick) was told that the military was scrambling aircraft but did not have clear targets because of lack of radar information (the terrorists had shut off the signals on the hijacked planes). So, when told there were two planes that might be the hijacked craft, and that there might yet be more hijacked planes out there headed for the White House (they knew the Pentagon had been hit and assumed a fourth missing plane was heading towards the capitol), he okayed two planes being shot down by fighter jets to eliminate the possibility they might fly into buildings. He learned soon after this that the fourth plane had crashed. It is a miracle those two others were not shot down.

Thanks for the heads-up about this show, Peg. We just got done watching it. The lies, duplicity, insolence, and sheer stupidity are even more astounding when heard in such a setting as this, esp. with the families sitting there. Condi's got that shrub smirk down just right, doesn't she? What an arrogant bitch. It took her from Jan. until 7 days before the attacks to hold a meeting about the al queda threat???? And then she didn't even invite our top expert on them, Richard Clark, who'd been warning all along??? You're right, how can these people still have their jobs (we've been trying to impeach them!), let alone look in the mirror everyday?

Sickened and saddened AND ANGRY,

kat

and yet the lies continue, and the propaganda, and the Republicans seem to think that if they keep saying Dubya is "winning the war on terror" that somehow people will ignore the fact that we are basically only coasting on dumb luck as we wait for another attack here in this country, whereas meanwhile other countries are being decimated and we don't seem to feel a need to do anything to help them...thereby alienating ourselves even further...
Nevermind the fact that our economy and national morale are in the toilet.
It is hard to believe things could get so fucked up in only four years...

I was propped up in front of the TV to watch it last night (I watch the program every week), and promptly fell asleep.

I'll catch it when it is replayed this weekend though.

"It is hard to believe things could get so fucked up in only four years..."

Imagine a scenario in which a new President with advisors who have big money connections. He and his crew NEED to create a serious problem. So they make deals with other big money people who send forth their suicide crews. The reality of what happened is lost in the moment and the moments that follow. The new President can change laws and ways of doing things because people are scared. He can begin to have the media spin things on his behalf. Years after the incident, people argue about how the man could have done it, and they shake their heads at anything so monstrous. In the end, not only does he control his own country, but he also controls--on behalf of multi-nationals--a whole section of the planet. Bit by bit the remaining countries fall in line, and a work force of six billion people is available for the taking. They will work for food. The President wouldn't have to worry about the pending bankruptcy of his own nation because all debts would be cancelled--money then being worthless. Money is, after all, only a piece of paper with a promise written on it. Problem solved. Maybe a few details have to be ironed out, but as a plot summary, it has a 'deja vu' ring to it. Lucky it couldn't happen on our planet.

Stupid plot on second thought. People so closely examining details couldn't miss the big picture I'm sure. So that's where it falls apart. Sorry to waste yer time on a passing idea.

The awful irony is that the Bush/Cheney administration is, for the moment at least, getting by with using the 9/11/01 attacks as a FEATHER IN THEIR CAP and a reason for not booting them out of office.   You're pretty much asleep on the job (deliberately or through incompetence and arrogance) and the worst attack ever on the US mainland happens on your watch.   And the citizens are supposed to keep you in office because of it?

Sheesh!

Yes, Wag the Dog often comes to mind, as does (at a different level) Canadian Bacon. Too bad reality is so much less amusing, and so much more unbearable, than the movies.

As I read through the various threads, I am astounded that people continue to confuse the war in Iraq with the war on terrorism. As far as I know, there is no substantial connection. This is just another way to manipulate the media and thereby the public. Unfortunately, it becomes very difficult for even the thinking public to figure out what is really happening.

Seems to me that the terrorist attack of 911 has been used as a reason to start a war in Iraq and to strip Americans of their right to privacy and constitutional freedoms. The U.S. administration has also tried (and temporarily succeeded) in imposing their form of martial law on Canadians trying to cross the border by using racial profiling to investigate anyone from the middle east.

Mudlark: right you are.   In the musical area there is a song by Charlie King that might be of interest---to the melody of the 12 Days of Christmas---The 12 Days of Invasion.

Again---shades of Wag the Dog---though this piece really hits you on the head with the lies one for each day. They ran out of days I guess

Heheheheh, that gave me a chuckle. Right on. I didn't see the show; I'll find out if it's repeated though. I do appreciate his informative programs.

I don't think people are confused about Saddam and 9/11, I think they, like DougR and other Republicans who will stick to the party line even when they know it's wrong factually, are cherry picking statements made by their fearless leaders.

Just last week the Bush/Cheney propaganda machine was out in full force saying the war in Iraq IS the war on terrorism being fought because of 9/11.

Not because Saddam was responsible for 9/11, but because that is what the Bush/Cheney administration decided to do about 9/11.

Which of course, had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11.

Guest - Just last week the Bush/Cheney propaganda machine was out in full force saying the war in Iraq IS the war on terrorism being fought because of 9/11.

I thought they were more subtle than that. I guess after a couple of years of confusing the media and the public, they figure its safe to openly lie. 911 is no justification for the war in Iraq. The two events are entirely separate. The effort to stop terrorism has been used to curtail American freedoms and the war in Iraq is just another way to insure American economic domination. Iran will be next and after that, Saudi Arabia.

Bush is doing more to create terrorism than defeat it.

Be sure to read Senator Bob Graham's book, "Intelligence Matters". He outlines the screw-ups succinctly and includes the infamous PDB given to Bush. Bush is responsible for the suppression of information that would have thwarted 911. It's almost as if Bush wanted 911 to happen to become Commander-in-Chief.

I also recommend Pat Buchanan's book, "Where The Right Went Wrong." Especially for those of you who call yourselves "conservative" on any issues.

The War on terror was lost over thirty years ago when terrorists were catered to by many countries. some of these terrorists leaders are now prominent political leaders and go to the white house for dinner.

Altho I missed the PBS airing of the Moyer's take on the 9/11 Commission findings, I was lucky enough to catch it on PBSU. I also heard the chair and vice-chair speaking at last week's Commonwealth Club meeting. Bad as the administration came off (and they came off very badly...hard to see why people look to bush to SAVE us after the findings of this commission) I was at least gratified at the lack of nonpartisonship displayed by the commission. This was even more evident in the Commonwealth Club discussion. It is somehow uplifting to know that there are a few politicians left in this government that can put aside their differences to come together to create such a thorough document. The chair and vice-chair both said the commission, now bonded into a tight investigative unit, will continue on their own, with their own money, if necessary.   Now that is service to country. They were both very impressive, as was Moyer's synthesis of the report.
