Subject: Lyr Add: Fill one room From: Wolfgang Date: 13 Sep 04 - 05:09 AM This song is missing among the Mudcat Rose CD lyrics. I like it so I have started to transcribe it. In parentheses are these parts of the lyrics I'm not sure about but that make sense to me the way I have written them down. In parentheses with question marks are those parts I just have written down as I hear them but that do not make sense to me in this particular transliteration. Of course I appreciate any corrections and I do not claim that all the unmarked parts are necessarily correct. Wolfgang FILL ONE ROOM (McCormack) Fill one room with the books of those who talked to you Tell you things you somehow know were true, Fill one room with echoes and with images Voices and faces of people you call friend, a chosen few. Fill one room with your dreamings and your longings Your colors and your textures and your tunes For he who tries to fill the world will fill it as a (feigning vapor) You can't have it all so fill one room. Fill one day with the labor that is real to you The aches that let you know that you're alive Fill one day with the (feel of breezes) on your body Mind ??(as water / is what a)?? face turned to the sky Fill one day with that (least one moments wonder) Between the time you rise up in the light And the time you tumble back into The dark and nameless mystery of the night. Touch one soul with that part of your soul that says you're not alone Learn one trade find one ??(sat a / said a)?? skill and take it for your own Fill one room though you yearn to fill a world of rooms (a world denied to all denied to you). Yet he who tries to fill the world will fill it as a (feigning vapor) You can't have it all so fill one room Yes he who tries to fill the world will fill it as a (feigning vapor) You can't have it all so fill one room. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: FILL ONE ROOM From: Midchuck Date: 16 Sep 04 - 02:37 PM Never saw the words written down, myself. I learned them directly from Dick's singing. The way I sing it, though, is: FILL ONE ROOM (Dick McCormack) Fill one room with the books of those who talk to you, Tell you things you somehow know are true. Fill one room with echoes and with images Of voices and the faces of people you call friend, a chosen few. Fill one room with your dreamings and your longings, Your colors and your textures and your tunes, For he who tries to fill the world will fill it as a thinning vapor. You can't have it all but fill one room. Fill one day with the labor that is real to you, And aches that let you know that you're alive. Fill one day with the feel of breezes on your body, Mind like water, face turned to the sky. Fill one day with at least one moment's wonder Between the time you rise up in the light And the time you tumble back into The dark and nameless mystery of the night. Fill one soul with that part of your soul that says you're not alone. Learn one trade; choose one set of skills and take it for your own. Fill one room though you yearn to fill a world of rooms (A world denied to all, denied to you). For he who tries to fill the world will fill it as a thinning vapor. You can't have it all but fill one room. He who tries to fill the world will fill it as a thinning vapor. You can't have it all but fill one room. I sang it for my father's funeral service in '90, at my mother's request; then couldn't sing it for about 5 years, but got back to it in time to do it for our '99 CD. Peter |
