Friends,
I am new to Mudcat, possibly new to many of you as well. I am a very avtive protest singer and Labor organizer who's also done quite a bit of concert organizing in NYC. Currently working rapidly to put the finishing touches on avery special event--one in honor of Sis Cunningham. A SONG FOR SIS: AN EVENING IN MEMORY OF SIS CUNNINGHAM, 'ALMANAC SINGER', LABOR ORGANIZER & RADICAL VOICE will occur on Fri 10/29, 7PM at Labor union 1199's auditorium in NYC (310 West 43 st). It will be FREE. Music of Sis, the Almanacs, Broadside and of course contemporary topical material---Sis's legacy. The list of performers is in formation but it will currently include Bev Grant, Matt Jones, the MacDougal St Rent Party and my own duet which features my voice and 5-string banjo along with my wife Laurie Towers on elect bass. I am also in contact with some other folks, some who performed with Sis many years ago, but am not at liberty to say just now. Happily even if they cannot make it, they will send in statements to be read.
As Sis was so very current in her political activism, and thought so LITTLE of the current White House resident, this will also be an evening dedicated to regime change at home. Hence, its proximity to Election Day. Some guest speakers will include representatives of some of the more vocal organizations opposing Bush.
