When First To This Country (correct title) is in the DT, and is discussed in thread 49741 and others. Collected in Austin, Texas in 1935.
Austin is a university city. Dare I suggest that this may be a composed song?

When first unto this country, a strange I came. I courted a fair maid and Nancy was her name..............

it then goes on that he steals a horse, gets caught, thrown in Jail and has his beard shaven off...........anyone know the words or who sings it
