I saw a sign yesterday, on Archway Road in London, it said;

ARCHWAY ROAD BRIDGE
BRIDGE STRENGTHENING WORKS

So it isn't a pointless exercise then.

Mike

My favourite is the one in the middle of an open grassed area which states...
"Do not throw stones at this sign"
Quack!!

There's one here that says Water Possible On Road.

But how could that be? How would it happen?

I love the motorway matrix signs that say 'Fog' - just in case you didn't realise!

Fleetwood once had an abundance of very odd signs which we used to visit every Fylde Festival.

On the pier - This pier is open all year round from November 1st.

On the public toilets near the North Euston - These toilets are fitted with anti-climb.

On the window of an office in the market hall - This is not a ladies toilet

and the crowning glory, again in the market hall - Disabled toilets in Birdcage

Thie mind boggles...:-)

Cheers

DtG

GtD That particular sign is quite common, so either lots of people think it's funny OR there is some real significance lost on us simple mortals.

Seen in Ireland some years ago - Arklow 19 miles.

A few miles down the road and pointing in a totally different direction - Arklow 21 miles!

Photographs do not bend. Oh yeah!

When I was in the RN on one submarine the access to the fin (conning tower) was next to the wardroom. Crew going on and off watch would often hang their foul weather kit on the hooks outside the wardroom.

So they put up a sign saying 'For Officers Only!'

A few days later a smaller sign appeared below.

"may also be used for foul weather gear'

Then there's "Free Quotes" Can you ask for something from say Hamlet?
And "Loose Stones Travel Slowly" They don't you know! Not when they fall from the top of a high cutting.

While driving down a rural road outside of Kennewick, Washington in spring of 1973, I see a sign that says,

No Hunting
No Shooting

It was barely readable because it was riddled with bullet-holes.

Outside a Scuba shop was its name

'Come Diving'...!!!!!

And then there was the little food place that John from Hull would have been proud to work in - painted all black, it was called

'The Taik Hawaii'

(try an Aussie nasal voice...)

Unfortunately, both shops are now out of business...

I had a piano accordion sent from the US by UPS - it arrived damaged - My Accordion Tuner said 'It's just as well the guy didn't mark "Fragile" on the outside'...

I saw one outside Walgreens yesterday. It read

H1N1 AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE.

Unfortunately the 1's and the I's were the same so it really said was

HINI AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE.

A radiator repair shop (automotive) just down the road has the slogan sign:

"A Good Place to Take a Leak."

I suppose that's "informative."

John

Years ago — but have never forgotten it — I saw two large posters side-by-side on an advertising hoarding. From LtoR they read

VD CAN BE CURED

I GOT IT AT THE CO-OP

From the BBC Radio 4 programm "The News Quiz":

"Would members of the congregation please note that the bowl towards the rear of the aisle, marked 'For the Sick', is intended for monetary contributions only".
