Hi,

Thanks for all the great leads on this song.

We heard this on the radio once right before our baby boy, Jimmy was born. We've been humming it since he was born last April

Song is Galway Rover and, I believe written by Danny Doyle and Pete St. John. Can be found on Danny Doyle's album "The Highwayman".

We played a song called The Galway Rambler a while back, coupled with Donnybrook Fair... there's a version at http://www.celticmusic.com/cgi-localbin/tunes.pl under reels. Hope that helps! Kirsten

Subject: Lyr Add: THE GALWAY ROVER ^^

The song is The Galway Rover. Don't know much more about it but here's the lyrics:

THE GALWAY ROVER

I've the face of a stranger , with the smile of a rover
I'll take a glass at down Kinvarna, and a jug at Oughterard
Down the great donkey roads to the hills of Connemara
To my dark Spanish handsome love way down in Galway town

Where Jimmy he's me love, he's me pride, he's me darling
Jimmy leaves me wander to the ends of the world
Jimmy brings me love, gives me hope, and sets me dreaming
And when the leaves are turning,
In his arms I'll settle down in Galway town

The spring brings the swallow, a fresh land of the rover
Where the blushing summer roses, shed their petals to the glen
And the long breathless evenings, where the loneliness is heaven
Makes the dreaming come so easy, on the road to Galway town

Where Jimmy he's me love, he's me pride, he's me darling
Jimmy leaves me wander to the ends of the world
Jimmy brings me love, gives me hope, and sets me dreaming
And when the leaves are turning,
In his arms I'll settle down in Galway town

The curlew are calling, a shy form is prancing
All the ferns on them bubbling like a thousand gentle eyes
All the creatures of Eireann, sing their own sweet song of pleasure
As the rover goes a whistling down the road to Galway town

Where Jimmy he's me love, he's me pride, he's me darling
Jimmy leaves me wander to the ends of the world
Jimmy brings me love, gives me hope, and sets me dreaming
And when the leaves are turning,
In his arms I'll settle down in Galway town

Where he's me love, he's me pride, he's me darling
Jimmy leaves me wander to the ends of the world
Jimmy brings me love, gives me hope, and sets me dreaming
And when the leaves are turning,
In his arms I'll settle down in Galway town

fh ^^

I think there was a thread on this a while back. If not, I have the lyrics to it somewhere. Incidently, I just saw Cherish the Ladies in concert a few weeks ago. They were really amazing.

Hi,

I recently heard a recording by Cherish the Ladies called "The Galway Rambler". The chorous contains the following: "Jimmy, he's my hope, he's my love and he's my darling..."

Does anyone know if this is a traditional song and, if so, are there other titles by which it's known?

Also, does anyone have the full lyrics, chords and/or know what the reel is that they play during the tune?

Thanks,

Rich
