Hi...I've never posted here before. I'm new. Could use some quick help though.

I'm performing in two weeks and I'd really *really* like to play the song "Wha'll Be King But Cherlie?". It's a lovely, upbeat Scottish song, of the hope of the coming of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

I can't find chords for it ANYWHERE. Does ANYONE know how to play it? I would *really* appreciate it if someone can help me out. I don't really care what key it's in, because my guitar is downtuned and I play with a capo for most songs anyway.

Peace and cheers,
'Saigh

There're several pieces of sheet music with piano accompaniment (with no chords) at Levy Sheet Music Collection. Enter "Wha'll be King but Charlie" (note the spelling).

Hi Cathasaigh,

These chords work with the tune I know (Silly Wizard):

Verse

The (Am)news from Moidart came (G)yestreen

Will (Am)soon gar many (C)fairly

For (Am)ships of war have (C)just come (G)in

And (Am)landed (G)Royal (Am)Charlie

CHORUS

Come (Am)through the heather, aroond him gather

You're (Am)all the welcomer (G)early

(Am)Around him cling, with (C)all your (G)kin

For (Am)wha'll be (G)king but (Am)Charlie

PS first time I've posted chords, so hope it's of use

H

Check out this version by Lintie(CA)here . The chords and the chorus are quite different. Is this the tune you had in mind?

The chords posted by halaswell fit the trad tune it's just that the chorus is a bit more extended as sung in the link posted by Guest Billy. However in that link it is the male voice which is singing the melody in the chorus.

Thanks so much, to everyone!! You're all so nice!

The version I know is a bit different than the Lintie version, but I was able to modify the chords halaswell posted to work perfectly. Now all I have to do is memorize it for my gig. ^-^

Thanks again to everyone who posted.

Peace and cheers,
'Saigh
