Hello all,

Wondered if anyone was interested in this...

YORKSHIRE DALES WORKSHOPS
YOUNG FIDDLERS MEET
York Steiner School
16 – 17 October 2004
www.ydw.org.uk

After the long running success of YDW's annual Fiddlers Meet in the Yorkshire Dales, we are delighted to present our first event dedicated to young fiddlers. Offering an introduction to a variety of styles from across the UK and overseas, the weekend promises an insight to traditional music for beginners and improvers alike.

This weekend is aimed at young musicians aged between 8 and 15 years old. Please note that the workshops not suitable for complete newcomers to the violin - beginners must have basic knowledge of the instrument and be able to play in G, D and A. Sessions will be led using a mixture of notation and aural learning.

Tutors for the weekend are Robin Shepherd and Carolyn Francis - both exceptional workshop leaders with young people who work regularly with Yorkshire Dales Workshops, Folk Works and many other leading folk development agencies. They bring their expertise and enthusiasm to teach a variety of fiddle styles, including Lakeland, Yorkshire, Shetland, Scottish and Irish.

Tickets cost £48 per person to include refreshment breaks. A limited number of concessions and discretionary bursaries are available – please call YDW for more details.

If you are coming from out of the area, we may be able to arrange home stays with host families. These places will be limited and we ask that you contact the office for details as soon as possible should you wish to consider this. Otherwise, we can make suggestions for a range of accommodation in York – from youth hostels to bed and breakfasts.

For bookings and more information, please contact Yorkshire Dales Workshops:
