O ye yaille (It doesnt seem to be very good French, but that's how we sing it in our band, and it's from a Cajun French singer) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....? From: greg stephens Date: 20 Sep 04 - 08:13 AM Which Mardi Gras song are you looking for? There are several different ones. If you tell me the artist who recorded the version you want to do, maybe I can help. Also: the Valse des Vachers. Is it the Denis McGee song you want? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....? From: The Half Fiddler Date: 20 Sep 04 - 08:44 AM Thak you Greg!!! I don't know what kind of version, may be Balfa Brothers. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 20 Sep 04 - 02:26 PM Recently found a book called "The Makers of Cajun Music - Musiciens cadiens et créoles," by Barry Jean Ancelet and Elemore Morgan Jr., 1984, Univ. Texas Press. It discusses the principal makers of the music, all illustrated with excellent color photographs, and lists their better known works, some with brief lyrics. It includes a discography. Text in both French and English. Besides the performers, the article on Marc Savoy and his Savoy Music Center, where Acadian accordians are made, was especially interesting. Unfortunately, there is no index. Glancing rapidly through, I noted lyrics for "Valse des Balfa," and a historical piece, the first line of which, translated, is 'The goddams are coming'- the English, of course. Most lyrics are just fragments illustrating the style of specific musicians. The oversize book, paperback, used but perfectly clean, cost $6 at a bookstore. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....? From: greg stephens Date: 20 Sep 04 - 02:33 PM Vincenzo: I couldnt remember all of "J'ai vu le loup", so I looked on Google. If you type the title in as I have just written it, you will find the songs(and an English translation, but probably not Italian!) right away. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....? From: greg stephens Date: 20 Sep 04 - 02:37 PM I see I have made two mistakes, when I typed out "La Talle des Rances" from memory. The second line should be "Ca c'est dur a croire" (Not "comment moi je vas faire", which is the sixth line. I made a mistake with that, too, I left out the "vas") |

I have found "J'ai vu le loup" but I think that it is an france version (from France), not cajun version. Thank for all. Ciao Vincenzo |
