Subject: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 21 Sep 04 - 04:21 AM Are you happy with the way mudcat is run and organised? Answer A, B or C A=Yes, I think it's great, the moderators do a grand job, Mudcat is a valuble resource, [over 10,000 folk songs here, some very knowledgable and helpful people etc]. B=No, its rubbish, Joe is evil, the level of censorship here is ridiculous, and its an outrage, and I've a good mind to write to my MP/Senator, it's an absolute affront to free speech. C=Don't know, or not bothered really. |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: John MacKenzie Date: 21 Sep 04 - 08:25 AM All right I'll try again. What purpose will this specious unofficial poll serve. After the last little bout of name calling, and leave takings, things have levelled out again, and people appear to be thinking before they post. Silly little polls like this give trolls etc carte blanche to launch another divisive attack. WHY?????? Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: GUEST Date: 21 Sep 04 - 08:38 AM Well now Giok, to be fair...why do you even bother to ask? It's pretty obvious it's a thread designed to do exactly what you said above, right? But hey, don't worry. Now the members can come spilling in by the droves and shriek "it's always the anon guests causing all our woes around here!" Just ask Joe Offer, he'll tell you... |

I only wish I could always turn it on when I want to. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: PoppaGator Date: 21 Sep 04 - 10:27 AM A-flat -- that is, yes with MINOR reservations I really dislike the stupid arguments over what one should be allowed to "say" (write), but I often feel compelled to waste my time reading them anyway -- it's like watching a train wreck or picking a scab. That's when I am least happy with my Mudcat addiction. I *mostly* like the moderators' attitudes, because their approach seems to be *mostly* "hands-off." I have been mildly annoyed when completing a post, clicking on "Submit Message," and then learning that the thread had just been closed. (This happened most recently when I felt compelled to jump to the defense of one Martin Gibson.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: Bill D Date: 21 Sep 04 - 10:38 AM A, of course...I've been here 8 years! when you go from 8-10 posts a day to hundreds, with MANY thousands of people reading, it only takes a few malcontents and trolls to change the apparent tone of things. There are 10 million people in New York city, and 'most' of them are tolerable, but there seems to be one crazy in every block downtown, so when you go home, you remember not the thousands who passed by with no problem, but the 6-8 who shouted and begged and harassed. |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 21 Sep 04 - 12:10 PM jOhN's premise for the poll had to do with the design, layout, and administration, as I recall. For that, A. I am covered with admiration for those aspects. Rating of user input runs down from that, however, with the patent ill-will and argumentativeness that has increasingly intruded in recent times. So the content score ranges from A all the way down the alphabet. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: RangerSteve Date: 21 Sep 04 - 05:39 PM Since joining Mudcat, my skin has become silky smooth. I can wear black again, since Mudcat made my dandruff go away. It doesn't leave a soapy film on the bathroom tiles. My white clothes are whiter and the colors brighter, and there's no static cling. Mudcat stays crunchy in milk and for the kids, it's a healthy alternative to candy and pastry as an after-school snack. Would I recommend Mudcat to my friends? You bet! OK, what do I win? |

Subject: RE: BS: Poll-Are you Happy With Mudcat? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 21 Sep 04 - 08:25 PM C, although in some ways including the work of volunteers I would be tempted to give an A. When you have been in situations like I have in that past it truely is difficult to care too much. Sometimes I even laugh when trouble breaks out here even though I know I shouldn't be like that and don't like myself for laughing (and I am not a troll or poster who tries to hide myself under the anon guest tag - I play straight and hope most of my contributions here are presented in a friendly manner and are constructive). To some extent with the nasty side though, I do believe MC gets what it has bred. To another extent, I do believe there are good efforts and contributions made here and there is much (VERY MUCH) to value. It's pretty much a mixed one for me. |
